  1. Hello! I hope this topic is fine, if not, feel free to remove it. So, whilst I've seen memes pop up every now and then, I haven't seen any actual thread with memes about the FISD. Because I personally love commenting the things in my life in memes, I decided to make a few memes about the FISD, based on things that I've noticed on here so far. Please feel free to share your own memes as well, if you've got any This was something that I had a bit of trouble with in the beginning... Perhaps some of you can relate, haha Don't worry, we appreciate it I've only been on here for a short time, but during that time there've been a lot of armors by Glen. Most impressive! The struggle is real. Now I just need the money and to decide on what I am going to build. "Troopers helping Troopers" really encompasses the spirit of the FISD and I appreciate that very much. No explanation needed Feel free to share some more memes or to take this post down if it's too off-topic for the off-topic area

  4. Hello everyone, Hallo zusammen, TK-86098 -AKA Soma- reporting for duty from the cloudy Korbach, Germany (Hessen). I got my approval in September this Year, my armor is an RS ANH Stunt. I`m 35 years old and doctor of Medizin (Urologist :D). My journey and dreams started at the age of 10-12, as I saw some fan/scratch-made TK`s on the TV. I hoped to become one of these guys, once! As a student I never had the chance to own/build one. Now as a doctor I had to prepare myself to the specialist exam. As a motivation I promised myself to order the kit on the day, I have the paper in my hand. That day came on the September 4th, 2020. It was such a nice feeling to open that big brown box I`m really happy to be a part of this community and hope to troop with you soon! Yours Soma/TK86098

  5. Given that its not going to be seen anyway, maybe either a larger rivet, or put a wide steel washer under the rivet(?)

  6. Oh wow, high praise! Glad to hear that! I do not have Facebook, so if anyone wants them shared on there, or any other social media platform for that matter, it would have to be done by others. I'll make sure to reach out to the responsible staff once I get back from work So glad to see another meme on here and its even one of the classics

  7. Hey troopers, Today, I’d like to run through some tips on ways to make a troopable replica Stunt TK helmet. The aim of my build was to make a helmet that looks closer to those seen in ANH back in ‘77, rather than how those helmets look now, over 40 years later. As we all know, the helmets on screen were used and abused by the actors/stunt team and this is clearly evident in ANH. Highlighted below, the helmets showed signs of cracked paint and usage markings. For those that don’t know, the original Stunt helmets were not white ABS (as many helmets are sold today). They were made of a khaki coloured material called HDPE. This was primed and then spray painted to get the final white appearance. This is why the helmets, when studied in closeups, have chips in the white paint showing the khaki plastic below. According to a trusted source, the process went something like this; 1. HDPE helmet primed oxide red 2. White primer added 3. Ears attached (unpainted) and helmet sprayed gloss white So, if one is looking for the closest appearance to screen used stunt helmets, the helmet has to be spray painted. This leaves a couple of options; Option 1; find a good quality HDPE helmet and follow the original methods Option 2; purchase an ABS helmet and fake the HDPE part For this project, I chose option two. Firstly, creating a “replica” helmet means studying the original helmets, such as how they were constructed and how they were finished. I’ve posted various threads about helmet alignment, brow heights, tubestripes and vocoders (which I’ll link at the end) as all of these elements help create a helmet that shouts ANH. For this build, I used a Troopermaster Stunt kit, 1.5mm ABS (not acrylic capped). After a rough trim, I could use magnets to hold the faceplate and back & cal together to start working on alignment. (More info on alignment https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/48293-anh-helmet-alignment/) At every stage, I use a free smartphone app to compare my progress with movie screen shots. (FISD gallery: https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/gallery/) With the basics of alignment in place, the helmet can be fixed together. Let’s take a second to look at the eyes. As below, the screen used helmets appear to have had the eye sockets cut out with a sharp knife. Unlike many “idealised” builds, they were not finely tuned with sand paper or Dremels - they had nice, sharp cut lines. Once the construction is done, the undercoat that will give the appearance of the khaki HDPE plastic can be applied. I was recommended Rust-oleum Painter’s Touch Fossil. Now, whilst the original Stunt HDPE helmet were primed oxide red, I haven’t used that part of the process - this is because, in this build, the Fossil colour acts as the primer. So, for this build the process would be; 1. Helmet sprayed Fossil green 2. Apply liquid mask 3. Ears added and helmet primed white* 4. Gloss white 5. Clear lacquer applied IMPORTANT STEP To give the appearance of paint chips later on, time to apply liquid mask. This was applied with a paint brush to areas where the screen used helmets showed chips or weathering. As below, you can see that the liquid mask has been carefully applied. This dries to a latex finish and is removed after the gloss coat has cured later in the process. White primer; * to get the masking fluid correctly applied around the ears, the ear caps had to be added before the white primer, otherwise, creating the screen used look around the ear caps wouldn’t be possible. Gloss white; Helmet now ready for hand painted details. :-) So, now the helmet is shiny white, spray painted just like the originals, we can move on to the hand painted details. As always, I used screen shots throughout to be as accurate as possible. Videos part 7 through 10 cover the helmet detail painting; Hand painted details More details on the vocoder can be found here: https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/48252-anh-tk-vocoder-examples/ For the tubestripes, I followed the process used by Troopermaster. Essentially, using masking tape (set 15mm apart), starting approximately a pencil width from the cheek, then using a curved template (made from offcuts of ABS) to mark the pencil lines. Each stripe should be approximately 3mm thick. Note the angle of the front few stripes - more details on that here; https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/44755-tube-stripes-anh-stunt-dave-m/ With the tubestripes complete, some gentle weathering can be applied. I used an off cut of rubber s-trim to mark the helmet, then used damp newspaper to give it a slightly used look. And there we are - a helmet built using original construction methods, painting processes similar to the originals, and hand painted details, with realistic weathering. The completed helmet can be seen here; Also, the build can be seen throughout this playlist of videos; Thanks for stopping by. Any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. Best wishes Dan

  8. Looking forward to seeing the build I've not seen E6000 plus so can't help with info there. Some reviews on this Amazon page, down the bottom https://www.amazon.com.au/E6000-Plus-570110-Adhesive-Clear/dp/B07QJDJYC6 With ESB blasters for Snowies there are a few options Standard ESB Stormtrooper style, no counter or hengstler Promo/ROTJ style More images in this thread A few options for purchasing, recently these have been mentioned 3D printed Quest Designs (not sure if they can do an ESB style) https://www.questdesigncanada.com/collections/frontpage/products/star-wars-stormtrooper-e-11-blaster-prop-replica-stormtrooper-v3 And JMC looks to do the ROTJ style greebles https://www.facebook.com/Troopercoola https://www.facebook.com/groups/300153641472608

  9. Thanks chaps. A bit of a daft mistake but all part of the process. At least it will be an area that will be covered. @joseph, will e6000 be fine for glueing down the scrap ABS? Also, I’m assuming I’ll glue this on top of the hole? Sent from The Empire

  10. Not much happens this weekend. I received the belt boxes from Dan and shortened the TD. It looks a lot better. last time it was very long The original (KB) compared with the one from Dan ... and sand again next time. Next, get the belt ready and then try everything on again to see how it looks.

  11. Hi Glen!!! Added to the processing line... .....................Nails are especially disgusting .

  12. Yeah, I wouldn't worry about making ABS paste, but if the new hole is in close proximity to the old one I would suggest patching it with a scrap piece of ABS. The reason being is that the area between them (red arrow) will be weaker and may split depending on how much pressure there is pushing out. You should be fine, but better safe than sorry.

  13. As the ear will cover it you wouldn't even need to fill that hole. If you really want to tape behind before applying ABS paste. I always advise to use self tapper screws for test assemble before using rivets. For drilling rivets out use a sharp bit with a slow speed and make sure you grip behind with a pair of pliers

  15. I have a few spare hot end parts, like a .4, .6 nozzle, the old heat block and a few others so may be able to get up and running with what I have, depends how caked in filament the sensors are really.

  16. Great work Chris, Hot ends are a pain in the proverbial lol. I always keep spare nozzles of varying aperture, throats and blocks. Not that I have used my printer in well over a year cough cough!

  19. I've seldom felt as validated as I did, seeing Glen's newest EIB application not even 24 hours after me making a joke about it. Absolutely stunning armor, I'm already very scared of your deathtrooper and it'll fuel my nightmares the nights to come, and it also inspired this newest meme: I mean, it's seemingly never truly complete ... Maybe I'll go for a conversion from ANH Stunt to ANH Hero or ESB instead. Now, if the owner could please share the original pauldron picture meme that this was clearly inspired by? So, don't expect three memes updates within twenty-four hours to become a regular thing

  20. Pretty much finished the helmet fit out, electronics completed and eye shields screwed in place. Fitted with Ukswrath Audio Assist and Henry’s Helmet fans with a DC Converter and DPDT switch. My issue was with the fans running at 5V the Audio Assist kit picked up too much noise, so with the switching system I can run at 5V for maximum cooling [Audio Assist off] or switch to 3V and turn on Audio Assist. I did buy a couple of DC converters with external control knob with the view to manually dial the voltage up and down as I needed, however when I reduced voltage under 5V both fans would stop running. This happened on both DC converters so there was an issue I couldn't rectify. Using the DC Converter The Mighty Atom sent me I used the on-board pot to reduce voltage to 3V and the fans simply slowed down. The one issue was I couldn’t adjust V on the fly [needed a very small screwdriver to adjust the pot], so with that in mind I knocked up a switching system with a DPDT switch I had lying around. Very happy with the end result, looking forward to testing it at a troop. At the moment the helmet interior is bloody messy and will redo the interior lining to make it look neater.

  22. TLJ mods are looking great, nice work on these. Apart from the never ending 3D print sanding fixing issues with the printers is the next biggest pain, you can be on such a good roll then a disaster, but some time and a little patience then it's back to running up the power bill Good luck with the fixes.

  23. I was going to print the end cap tomorrow but instead I looked into why there was filament dripping from the hot end. Apparently the heat block has worked looks, or the nozzle, or maybe both. The end result is filament has been leaking through the top of the heat block and generally making a mess. I’ll need to strip, rebuild and maybe replace some components. This will be a rather time consuming job and I’m not exactly sure when I’ll fit this in.

  24. . I love this one especially(obviously)! I think the sense of humor is the best of all our senses...And believe me when I tell you that we DO's feel this way when a review contains many issues to be pointed out(yes, there are moments we do not enjoy, especially when we have to request complicated fixes). I hope that people in general do not see us as the villains in the movie. Thank you for these memes. A little sense of humor after all that we are living, never hurts....

  25. Also couple of photos the DO's like to see. Thigh ammo strip rivets, inside and out. You may also just want to check your TD gaps before the DO's do their review (control panel to end cap gaps) Good luck with approval

  26. Looking good Sam. If I may add a suggestion, it would be to tidy up your paint work on the Ab buttons. A little trick to getting rid of those little bits that stick out is to use a toothpick dipped in some mineral turpentine and scratch them away. Easy to do and works well, will give a nicer finish if you can round them off a bit.
