  1. Thermal detonator: done. I began with painting the smallish (and not exactly screen-accurate???) end cap black with some Testor's paint. I masked off the end to help keep the line sharp. I tried painting an initial layer of black Testor's on the large rectangle area, but even with a thin layer, it wasn't turning out like I was hoping. So, with the knowledge that I don't entirely like the look of large painted areas using Testor's paint, I opted instead to put my template skillz to work and try creating matte black decals for the circle end and large middle rectangle bits. I've got a large roll of the stuff, so might as well use it. For my rectangle template, I simply placed a piece of paper over the area (and making sure the paper had full contact with the cylinder) and used my thumbnail to create grooves around the edges. Using an Exacto knife and a ruler for a straight edge, I cut the paper piece out. Then I traced the outline of the paper onto the black vinyl, and cut it out with the Exacto knife. I did a similar procedure for the black circles on the ends, too. Pretty easy I must say. It's not Cricut perfect, but it's good enough (I've got one of those machines on my wishlist now)! And certainly better than paint would look in these areas, too.

  4. Paging @gmrhodes13 and all others in the know about the TLJ FOTK cod!!! I'm trying to work with the designer of the 3d files on revising his cod file to better emulate the TLJ cod. He's telling me that there are ridges on the front left and right of the cod based on screen caps. Those ridges don't look right to me at all. Can anyone confirm this???

  5. Yeah, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to say "I was there, I was one of the first 1000". It will never happen again, so I hope people appreciate this opportunity and get their EIB apps in ASAP :laser:

  6. Talk about faster than expected turnaround. Ordered my boots on 7/9 and they arrived this morning. 1st impression is that I will definitely need to break them in a bit and buy insoles, but overall very happy with the purchase. Now just need holster, TD cylinder and clips, and my E11.

  8. Stormtroopers have never had such good aim as they do right now. The countdown is well and truly on and I for one am getting pretty darn excited at the prospect of hitting the 1000 Bullseye in the next few months. Great work to all that have already submitted and to those building like crazy to get into the first 1000 group. DO team, you are all doing a wonderful job appraising and approving troopers, thank you for your efforts. I will reveal another piece of the merch item when we hit 20 which I suspect will be by next week at this rate.

  10. Hello everyone! I've been lurking on the forum for... wow, nearly ten years, and I've finally got around to starting serious thought about a TK build. A friend of a friend of a friend has a 2017 TKUK kit that he's parting with and I wondered what the mood on them was now - I recall a while ago that they weren't recommended but as far as I can tell that was on the basis of customer service rather than armour quality. Anyway, I'm looking forward to finally getting started!

  11. For any imperfections I like to use bondo (automotive filler) dries quite quickly and can be sanded in varies grades to get a nice smooth end result. For final scratches or pinholes I use blade putty (final glaze) finer and a wet consistency and takes some time to harden but great for fine imperfections. I found with my Sithtrooper armor from Jim that I could sand the whole armor with a block and 120 grit sandpaper and it got rid of a lot of imperfections, low and high spots, then applied two coats of spray putty.

  12. If I'm seeing what I think I am, I think you could fill the oval indent with resin and it should be fine. Sand down the sharp edges, fill it with resin, then sand it once it's cured. Over that you can do month or some other filler, sand it smooth, and it should not be noticeable.

  13. I sanded the back of the belt, the hand plates, and the chest, back, and shoulder straps. I had some resin that extended onto the edges, so I used a Dremel to sand that down. It was difficult getting in the back box, but I got it pretty well. My shoulder straps don't line up right, which might affect the way the torso hangs. So I taped them together with a bit of tension to bend them evenly and a little more. I asked Jim about the oval indentation on the back of the left shoulder. He said to cut on costs he uses the same mold as his Inferno Squad back. It's pretty thin, but I think using a Bondo spot putty would Crack when it flexes. I'm thinking about trimming some fiberglass that I'll cut off and E6000 it in there, then lining with putty. Just thinking out loud... I think I'll use the hand plates as my test pieces for my modified process. They're small and pretty simple, so I should be able to fix them if needed. The gloss I'm using is paint+primer, so I'll skip priming several times with alternating grays. After applying some putty and sanding, I'll spray the back satin white, then spray the front gloss white. Then put soft white velcro under and stick them on the gloves! It'll be super rewarding having accomplished something!

  15. With the TD for TLJ they have an all black endcap not just a strip of black I think you will find that the ridges are softer the image above appear very sharp. Here are a few more references

  16. I thought of that, too. It's possible. I put the file into Meshmixer and cut the edges off... I guess could print this and sand off the sharp transition points at the edges. It's nothing critical for now, but it's something I'd like to square away for future printing.

  29. I have tabs on the front of mine, a loop of elastic through with snaps on the end which attach to the inner front of the shins, helps to keep them straight and pulled down when bending

  30. A lot of my costumes have padding in the arms and thighs because of my thin frame, if you attach velcro to the foam then you can remove and wash if it gets sweaty

  32. The elastic loop at the shoe top is hidden by your shin pieces. (some TKs here add velcro to them to "pin" the shin down by connecting them

  37. Thanks! And that's my jersey from Shark-for-a-Day (Shark's Fantasy Camp) 2018. My girlfriend and I are big fans (she lived in San Jose for 10 years before moving to Philly for me). The canvas was won in one of the Shark's Foundation auctions a couple of years ago. Hertl and Jones are the reason for my TKID...14831.
