  1. Hi, my name is JR and I'm 22 years old. I've been looking to join the 501st for years, having met some members from the Dune Sea Garrison (I live in Arizona). I'm currently waiting for approval to be able to access the Dune Sea Garrison forums so I can ask various questions about the garrison there. In the mean time I was hoping to get some advice from here. I've been following TK 1636's videos on youtube to get a better grasp of the building process among various other youtubers. I'm a bit of a larger lad being 6'1 about 240lbs with a 38" waist, gonna try to cut that down a bit though in anticipation to eventually trooping. After doing research, deciding on the armor, then doing more research and settling for a different kit, only to do more research... I think I have come to the conclusion that I would like to go for an Armor Master ANH derived TK. I've read that it suits larger troopers and fairly easy to assemble for noobies such as myself. I wanted to get some opinions before I take the plunge and send the email. Thanks!

  2. BBB day is here!!! Time to celebrate! I couldn't be happier with the quality from Jim. The details are crisp, and due to the thickness of the pieces they look quite durable. I have a fiberglass scout helmet that's quite heavy so I was concerned about how much the flexible fiberglass pieces would weigh compared to Abs plastic, however having both in hand they're extremely comparable. I am most excited that a lot of the parts come assembled (yoke, forearms, thighs, biceps, spats) and I believe it will save a lot of time compared to some of the other options available. My plan is to sand all pieces interior and exterior to get rid of the fiberglass bits. Then I'll give them a good wash with soap and water to get rid any mold release chemicals. Super excited to start my third build, it's bringing back nostalgia of my last to BBB days Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk

  7. Progress is being made. I'm going with a suspender setup that the Trooper helping me uses. I'm not looking for L2/L3, just want to be able to troop, so I hope this passes.

  8. Hey troopers, Nearly finished now. First time using masking tape, pencil lines and freehand. Whilst they weren’t fully dry in these photos, overall I’m really pleased with them. I’ll be sharing more details on the masking process soon, however, for now here’s some photos.

  9. Anyone able to chime in? Latest update - Calves. I added the shim as you guys had advised. I had to redo the the left one today after finding out my cover strip sat a bit crooked, and had a bit too much room at the ankles. But here's how i'm shimming. Also removed the overspray from the frown - I don't think I need to repaint, kind of like it this way, and it's pretty screen accurate for Stunt TK, what do y'all think?

  11. Fantastic news! A very exciting time for you. Jim’s work is exceptional and it’s a great kit to work on. First steps, give it a good wash down, a rough sand on the interior, then another wash. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

  12. You could try putting the biceps in the freezer for a while. That makes the superglue brittle.

  13. Hi Thomas , about your questions Should I add the notches? in my opinion, the more screen accurate i can go, the better for me. -Which side is up? I added a yellow line to show off the curve. the following reference photos could help you to check where the notches should go. -------------- Hope this can help. cheers

  14. Trimming the return edges won't make the biceps any bigger, unfortunately. RS uses superglue to assemble their armour so I don't think you will have much luck taking them apart successfully and even if you did, the superglue will need major cleanup and work that shouldn't be necessary if you gave them your measurements to work from. Get in touch for replacements, making sure they are bigger than the ones you have.

  15. Dear fellow Staff members, Troopers and future Troopers, As Sarah mentioned in a previous post, it is with a heavy heart that I am stepping down in my role of Executive Officer of the FISD. Over the last few months life has thrown me more than a few curve balls, including personal issues, 2 deaths and a hurricane to boot, which in my opinion have precluded me from having the time to effectively perform my duties, and for that I add my sincere apologies to you all. Those of you who have known me over the years know that this Detachment and the people here have honestly meant the world to me, and it has been both an honor and a pleasure being a part of such an incredible group of folks. Although the dust is finally beginning to settle (at last), it will be several weeks before life allows me to get back into the swing of things here 100% as in recent years, but I promise I will get there. After speaking with Sarah, she has graciously offered that I step back into my previous role as Deployment Officer. This will allow me the chance to serve the FISD in the area that I know best, and I look forward not only to returning to assisting future Troopers, but helping those aiming for EI and Centurion attain their goals as well. A big THANK YOU to all of you for bearing with me. Your kind thoughts/comments and personal PMs have helped get me through the recent months more than you will ever know, and an extra big thank you to Sarah for her understanding and keeping me on as part of the Staff. Also, I'm sure that you will all join me in welcoming Brien as our new XO. He is a true treasure here, and I am sure he will continue to go above and beyond to make sure that this Detachment continues to be the best one in the 501st! My very best to you all, and I will see you on the boards a LOT more. Troop on, Joseph
