Yes always test fit everything prior to changing anything. Even a test fitting using painters tape holding the whole kit together. This way you get a feel of how it will actually fit on you.2 points

Hello all! It's been a minute. I've been busy trooping trooping of course but have also gotten bit by the 3D printing bug. Printers are so inexpensive right now that I finally pulled the trigger late last year. After printing a bunch of "smaller" Star Warsy stuff I decided to jump in and build the droid I have been looking for. I've been wanting to add a "life size" working droid to my rotation and with the help of Thingiverse, astromech.net and a couple of facebook groups. I started this build late November 2019. Let me say from go, this is like watching paint dry. I am doing this on one printer and it's a small/average one at best. But like anything else we do, it's hurry up but slow down and wait. Anyhow, I love my brothers and sisters in plastic so I wanted to just pop a few WIP pics up for you all. My end goal is to have him completed and running for May. Again, here are some pics, if anyone else is building a droid and would love to share info I am all ears. I am spending a bunch of time of astromech.net trying to learn about all this electronic stuff but honestly, it hurts my head. The print that started it all.1 point

Thanks Greg, I'll see how it goes tomorrow, it should turn our alright once I get the belt around it, I might put some foam on the back pieces to give it some bulk too just to be safe1 point

How much overlap is there? You could always add a bit of padding in there or try to shape it a bit. Even a little of both maybe? This is where we say photos are helpful as we can get a better idea of the issue.1 point

I will say though, as much as well all have slightly different ideas of how the story could be told, it is testament to the love of Star Wars that keeps us engaged and talking about it. I don’t think there could ever be a perfect version of the new movie trilogy that would have everyone truely satisfied and that is what drives discussion and passion. I can fully appreciate all this artwork to let the imagination run wild with possibilities and who’s to say we won’t see some of it used in the future. We can live in hope. Have you tried the armour pieces on? It's important to note that the strapping and your belt will pull in your armour around your body, so you may not need to reshape the pieces. The strapping will also help align the notches etc. Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk1 point

Ok. Fine I thought I’d better try kitting up completely as I hadn’t worn it all at the same time yet. @mynock was over having a beer so what better time to try right? It definitely helped to identify a few issues, mainly with adjusting the strapping etc. These weren’t meant to be approval shots but I wanted to see how everything looked so figured we’d take the standard poses... Alright, so the issues I need to fix: 1. The plastic shoulder straps need to be angled out slightly to better meet the back plate. This may help with covering the white elastic also which is too visible. A bit of adjusting the shoulder bell and bicep up my arm more could also help with the tension. 2. Need to tighten the back-to-kidney strapping elastics. The gap is big I know but it isn’t HUGE. With my height it’s a bit of an issue. I want to find a good balance there without making the back plate look too low. 3. Adjust the side strapping on the butt plate as the sides stick out a little. It’s really noticeable in that ‘action’ shot above. 4. Rotate limbs better next time I take photos, and do the shins up properly. 5. Re-glue the hand plates AGAIN as they keep peeling off. 6. Seems like the gaps in my legs are quite large. Not much I can do about that! Curse my long legs. 7. Add the elastics to the shoulder straps. This may also assist with point 1. 8. I’m concerned the sniper knee plate isn’t quite aligned perfectly. It’s a tricky thing to get right. I may revisit this later. But for a first kit up I’m pretty happy. Dressing issues always happen and it’s good to see how the kit sits on me from all the angles. The end is insight I think.1 point

On a couple of facebook groups people have ask and the response has usually been it's pennies on the dollar. Oh well, what a couple of more months at this point!1 point

Not that I really want to know, but I’m tempted to hook my printer through my power usage meter once I get up and running. Picked up the meter several years ago to measure exterior Christmas lights, but never actually paid attention to it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

That did it! I'm able to post my question in the TrooperTalk app thread now. Thanks for the tip1 point

I agree, I have read a few threads on plot leaks and what could have been sounded a lot more feasible, I'm still hoping we see a directors cut at least it would give the movie a few fill in spots which could help to explain a few things1 point

That will be a fun conversation to have with your GML / 501st Approval team. "Yeah, about that armor I got accepted/critiqued in? I don't have it anymore..."1 point

Good stories never start with good decisions. I am a life-long skateboarder. Once I get my build done, you'll absolutely see a few half-pipe TK photos. What was that about good stories? "Yeah, let me tell you about the time I broke my wrist and shattered my stormtrooper uniform 3 hours after it was completed."1 point

So to start off, I just got my clone boots from ImperialBoots a few days ago. Also got a few of the audio files for the troopers in cutscenes (only 6 but better than nothing) that I'll be sharing here incase anyone wants to use them https://drive.google.com/open?id=1f5TeM74BvAUSe-Y3zrYzx-yayEEDAEIa Voice lines are as follows (1-5 are from the first mission, and 6 comes from the PSP versions Order 66 mode): 1. "Lord Vader! We were ambushed upon arrival, but i have the situation well in..." 2. "Lord Vader, Triton Squad reporting for duty sir!" 3. "Yes sir!" 4. "You heard him men! On the double!" 5. "Yes sir! We're sustaining heavy resistance sir. So far we haven't even broken their frontline." 6. "Yes my Lord."1 point

Here is a replica holster by Gino who had access to a complete original ANH suit to cast, and it's a perfect example to show. I might be able to show the details on screen used armour but I don;t have a dead on shot like this. Notice how the mounting straps are on the front of the holster? There are two ways the straps were mounted to the belt but the way they were attached to the holster are the same. Let me explain. It's my belief that the holsters were originally made using loops to hang the holster from the belt - just as they did in ESB. But for whatever reason they changed their mind and decided to rivet the holster directly to the belt, so the loops were cut. The cuts were made either to the front of the strap, leaving a small black tab commonly seen on the front of the holster and the tan colour of the inside of the strap showing going under the belt, and some were cut at the back of the strap so you see black straps attached to front of the holster (as in the photo above) and the tabs would be on the back of the holster. This is why you will see some troopers with black straps and tan straps, but the main retaining straps and the shape of the holsters were always the same as far as I have seen during my research over the years. So, while it's acceptable to have the straps mounted from the front of the holster, the way Darman has done it shouldn't have the tab on the front but on the backside of the holster and the straps should be black with the tan to the inside.1 point
