what they all said....plus Dont glue the shoulder strap to the back plate. Just curve it and leave it there. Use black velcro underneath to connect the 2 large plates together. This stops your shoulder straps from snapping

FX chest plate mod
john danter replied to Darth Voorhees's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Nice mod dude. Really nice Did you use the sealing iron trick to curve it back? Sweet mod -
hang on This is a good pic to show the difference between one powered item and two wired in series or parallel. Basically have your switch connected to the postive end. Also try to colour code your cables. Red going from the +ve to the switch, then carried on to the fan. Then black coming all the way back to the battery

Armor Thickness and Acrylic Capped vs. Uncapped
john danter replied to novicetk's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
there's no difference in terms of capped or uncapped dude. It's just more expensive to buy the AC version as that's the stuff with the high gloss shine -
It's a matter of preference but for me by miiiiiiiiiles, the hero will always win. Far more iconic (due to the Luke and Han shots) and it looks far nicer and meaner. Smaller mouth and lower brow trim make it look wider and more menancing and also 'clean' all at the same time. I did a costuming talk this weekend and on both days I wanted a hero on stage with me to show people the difference. i couldn't find one...? Do a hero dude. The bubbled lenses can be made yourself. Or if you're patient you can wait for my flubble lenses to arrive on mass.

TIP: small pad mic tutorial - less feedback
john danter posted a topic in Tutorials, Tips and HOWTOs
There have been loads of posts on the UKG boards lately all realting to feedback in helmet or even chest mounted soltions for TKs etc. I believe the main cause is the hollow cased mics that are very sensitive so more susceptible to feedback issues. I always use the small piezo-electric pad type mics, known as ultraminiature mics. (maplin part no S63 5DL) What you will need:- heatshrink pad mic 3.5mm phono/stereo plug red/black wire large 13mm heatshrink pipe cleaner the mic Solder 2 cables on the back and leave about 0.5m of cable tidy up with heathsrink if needed Grab your wire pipe cleaner and insert into middle use a sheath of larger heatshrink to encapsulate all parts as shown heat up with haridryer to make it all look like this (the pipe cleaner is there to help you position the mic pad inside your lid close to your mouth as desired. Solder the 3.5mm plug on the other end and away you go Hope this helps -

Reinforcing the shoulder straps
john danter replied to TK1491's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
I sell spare shoulder straps but I always people to do this:- Glue the fronts. Leave the backs floating Attach the chest to the back plate with a black elastic strap that runs under the ABS strap They never crack then Plus check out the TKs during the Tantive an impolite person whipping. The straps there are free floating too -
I'm in the process of making bubble lenses but I'm trying to perfect it first. Nearly there

Space TKs (Falcon tractor beam scene)
john danter replied to john danter's topic in Boots, Soft Parts, and other Accessories
I'll sell these for about £80-£90 by the time I've done everything. That's kit form only. I cant make one up for someone but I dont have the time. Easy to do anyway -
Most new boots will be a little uncomfortable when you first buy them and they'll wear in However, mine were fine when I got mine 5 yrs ago. stiching comes lose on the heel as you take them on/off and our calf armour rubs on the stitches....but they're fine boots

Filling the gaps on the ears
john danter replied to Ketariniii's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
Dude, I sell new ears if you want a set. But gaps are fine. A good tip is to use comb profilers. the kind of thing a carpenter or fitter would use on corner pieces. Loads of little teeth in a row. You push it onto the lid and then draw the outline onto the ear. Like I said, gaps are fine but if it's really messy I can sell you another pair. If it's as screen accurate lid. PM if you need some -
Another tip is to leave a gap where your lenses are. Glue the top but leave a gap on the lower side. Helps air escape out. Also prevents fogging PS: Is your frown cut out?

Empire. It ends on a downer and is so vast in where the film goes, ice, clouds, bogs it's a great inside into the galaxy. Plus it's the only film where the rebels have their butt totally wiped by the lads in white
