Approved trooper for Washington coast
wook1138 replied to emtramone's topic in Newly Approved Members - Sound Off!
Congrats on your approval! Looking sharp! Yeah, this hobby is addictive and not very friendly to one's wallet. But totally worth it! -
Hi Daniel, This might have been mentioned already, but... if you sand the back part with really fine sandpaper, the colour should lighten. Plus, it would be more matte like the reference helmet. And I second Paul on the liquid mask. Stuff is great for the chipped effect - plus it gives you awesome control of the shape and size of the chip. Depending on the paint/surface you use, it may even leave a pealed effect or tears along the edge of the paint. Worth a test at least. Interesting thread, btw.

FYI, I found this: it is an application for Centurion (Level 3) approval . The trooper is slightly weathered and approved.

Hi Simon and welcome to the FISD! I love the eye for detail. Be sure to check out the CRL for the ANH stunt TK. If you are going for 501st approval, there are a few details that, although technically seen on screen, may not be approvable. This might include "heavy" wear of items or on-set fixes such as gaffers tape and such. Some minor wear and tear is allowed. Good luck on your build!

TK-17529 Requesting ANH Stunt Centurion Status (AP) (425)

Congrats!! -
Looks great! Things get real when the strapping starts to go in. I'm sure you are aware, but just in case - remember to paint those ab/kidney rivets white.

Ah, the sniper knee... The great rite of passage to the AP Brotherhood. Looking good! -
You can trim the ab or leave it - whatever is more comfortable for you. Personally, I would trim some more off - to reduce the chance of rubbing while trooping. Also, leaving return edge increases the rigidity of the piece.

Walt’s Trooper Factory - Good Choice For First Build?
wook1138 replied to Ivoshafen's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
Even if you decide on a costume that falls under spec ops or MEPD (or whatever), this site is still a must for trooper building in general. For my sandtrooper, I posted both here and at MEPD. I'm only posting my Deathtrooper build at spec ops, but I still use this site for any general building tips. Frank is right, FISD is awesome! Anyway, my ANH stunt TK is still my personal favorite for trooping - everyone knows what a stormtrooper is (well, most... I disregard people who don't know what a stormtrooper is ) -

Looks great! Nice work. The only thing I will add about fitting is - can you bring your thighs up a bit? Ideally you want to have as little black showing at the top as possible - plus it would give the tops of your shins a bit more clearance from bumping into your thighs. -

Good to see you here, Eric! Looking good! Good luck. -
Haha. Don't let Matt scare you - he has no patience and overreacts all the time. That said, the thighs are not as straight forward as the arms. If you think you need to trim the tops for height - do that the best you can before fully fitting them for width. And be sure to leave a little room in the thighs - it is better to have a little extra space (you can always adding padding) than having them too small. I've seen a lot of people undersize their thighs. Also, the right thigh front coverstrip ridge is slightly curved. I found gluing half (lower or upper) of the coverstrip on first then forcing the other half into place later (and holding with good clamps) worked - forces the coverstrip to follow the curved return edge / seam. If that makes sense. Arms look very nice! Great work, trooper!!
-
Arms look great! I trimmed a little off the corners and sanded them just so they wouldn't catch on things (e.g. undersuit). Just give them a little 45 degree cut and hit with some sandpaper.

TK-81489 Requesting ANH EIB Status (WTF) (885)

Rivets - yeah, as long as you’re aware of the requirement going forward. For the bicep - I’m referring to the coverstrip appearing really thin compared to the ridge below. -

Good luck with approval! Do you have rivets on your left ab to kidney connection? Also, there is a lot of ridge surface showing under you bicep coverstrips- any chance you can size those down? -
Yeah, the hipstertrooper, His utility belt dispenses flavoured craft beer and he can vape through the hovi mics.

TK14767 requesting ANH Stunt EIB Status [RS] (882)

Looking good! You might want to remove the white paint from the rivet and snaps that connect the posterior plate to the cod. Good luck! -
ha! Yes there are. There is a thread for that.

There is a whole other detachment for "dirty" stormtroopers (sandtroopers, Mimban trooper, etc). That is MEPD. We do have some slightly weathered costumes here, like the HWT (heavy weapons trooper). A few have added very slight weathering to their TK, as this is seen on screen - but only a few scratches and smudges here and there. If you want to get dirty, like the Mimban trooper in your picture, then MEPD will be of interest to you.

AP Armour - Trimmed - ANH Centurion - First Build Thread
wook1138 replied to Mr_Fahrenheit's topic in ANH Build Threads
For the thigh strapping, I use a belt and nylon straps that are snapped into the thighs. The nylon straps are just folded over the belt and sewn. Pretty basic but it works. No strapping for the shins required. They stay in place - for the most part. A lot of people have issues with the shins rotating a bit. This is easily remedied by adding a bit of industrial strength velcro to the inside of the shin along the front seam and the loop-side Velcro to the front top of the boot. Keeps things nice and aligned. I haven't found the build thread with the bells yet - but I would not worry too much about that yet.
