1. Ordered a pair of TK boots a week ago. Ordering was easy thru pay pal. TK boots were very prompt and very professional in how they conducted business. Only took a week for the whole process. Of course they traveled cross country , but still . Great doing business with these people. I would recommend them to anyone needing trooper boots. Also, they are great quality boots. All leather inside and out. Comfortable already. Some cool patches and stickers came with them too.
2. I would think you have to keep the thermal detonator mandatory. After all they were only removed in the movie to keep someone from getting hurt. And was not supposed to be noticed. T K s have a thermal detonator. They just don't look right without it. Just sayin.
3. That almost looks like an overlap. Not a cover strip. Hard to tell for sure from the pic. Was that a cover strip or was that the over lap type of armor?
4. Looking great so far. Wish I had mine already.
5. The easiest way to get started is to use MDF. Medium Density Partial board. Every home depot type store has it. You can cut pieces and glue them together to form a block from which to start cutting and sanding . Best to have some good tools , dremel , bench sanders , you can never have too many tools. Another thing to keep handy is some Bondo. It's for doing body work on cars but you can use it on wood too. Dries quick so use it fast. But if you sand too much off of the wood, just slap some Bondo on and start reshaping. That's one way that's quick and easy to get started. Although, getting your molds to look the way they are supposed to takes some time and tweaking, and tweaking, and more tweaking if you get my point. Don't expect quick satisfaction. It's a art form that takes time to refine. I'm very handy with building things but found this to be very challenging. On the flip side..... it is a lot of fun and so very rewarding when you get things to look good. Keep asking questions, others may have more ideas to share. Good luck, Tom
6. Great to see another vetted armor maker. I'm wanting to become a armor maker myself. Right now I'm still in the very early stages . Not wanting to take any short cuts or wanting to end up making some cheesy armor. So I'm taking my time making sure that things will be done right. Good luck and hope you continue to make a good name for yourself in the community. Your armor looks great .
7. Happy BBB day. I can't wait for mine to get here. I'm assuming they send them out in order that they were placed. So, I probably won't get mine until fall. Exciting to see that others are getting theirs and started on their builds. Good luck on your build.
8. I believe they have 3 different body types to choose from. If you go to their site and go thru the ordering process you will get a better idea. Of course if your not ready to buy or choose not to then you don't have to purchase. But it is the best way to see what they have to offer.
9. If you haven't already , then I suggest some reading in the getting started section.
10. I did my research and everything points to not buying on ebay 99.9% of the time. If they are selling for 250 bucks then it is probably a very poor quality kit. Most of the time a recast that is made with low quality materials. Someone is looking to make a quick buck. Stay within the list of vetted armor makers that the experienced people around the FISD recommend and you won't waste your time and money.
11. Best bet whenever starting a project, especially one of this magnitude is to slow things down. Don't be to rushed to get it done. That will always end up cost more time money. Watch many videos and look at some of the tutorials in the forum.
Be careful with the dremel when sanding, it does cut down on alot of time and work. But always be sure to plan carefully what you are about to sand. Measure twice cut once. Pay once also. There is alot more planning and measuring than actually doing the work.
Good luck, keep posting the pics. Some of the really experienced builders will give more advice.
12. Nice looking DLT 19's for sure. I'll be keeping my eye out for the price as well
13. Great looking work. I can appreciate the amount of time and hard work that you have put into it , having started on a ANH TK suit of armor with only pics to go off of. It got really frustrating. I did the same thing. Tweaking and Retweaking and it still doesn't look quite right. But in the eyes of others they see only what it is supposed to be and don't really notice all the things that you would notice. I'm not that familiar with that armor , and I'll say it is definitely first order TK. Something to be proud of already.
14. Test it first on similar plastic. Just to see if you like or not. It is kinda hard to undue paint. You can paint over it , but some paints have a texture to them which would require a lot of sanding to undue.
15. Good to hear that Anovos makes a decent kit. Seeing how bought one this makes me feel easy. I've also being reading some negative post about Anovos.
16. From what I hear, there is no such thing as being in a hurry for a kit. The demand far out weighs the supply.
17. Don't know why that is happening. Gonna try a different resizer
18. Just curious, has anyone made a TL 50. It only appears in the battlefront game. But it would be something new. Evedently it was introduced in some previous games , before battlefront.
19. I considered doing the same thing, buying cheap. Just to get in the door. Then I read some stories of people spending a lot of money and time to try and get their armor approved. It definitely changed my mind when some of them ditched their efforts for a better kit. They ended up spending a lot more money trying to go less expensive. Im waiting on my kit to arrive now. At least I know it will be something that I will be able to troop in. Spend some extra time and money going to centurion instead of just getting approval.
20. It looks great. One thing to remember when weathering is not to over do it.
