That's one of Echo's fan brackets. Plastic and foam with fans and batteries installed. The wires for the fans are on the back of the bracket, which itself can hide other wires (audio, mic, etc.) behind it in the neck tube. Contact "Echo" here with a PM or ask on his Ongoing FS thread. If you have a TK designation, he'll personalize yours. EvilBoy also has a popular fan option without the bracket.

I use a 3M fine sanding sponge really lightly. I'll post an example soon. I found it better to do many light sandings each followed by a wipe down from a damp and then dry paper towel for dust. And if you take too much black off (very easy to do) just sand it evenly and do another coat of black and try again. Another method is to do black and then dry-brush some silver over that, to simulate weathering. As for posting pics, try uploading to photobucket and posting from a PC with updated Flash and flip the little switch to enable basic text mode. Hope this helps

My ATA looks like yours; the cap wants to rotate slightly to the right (note where the traps line up to the eyes) so I think you're okay. Go slow on the ears! lol

They're at DTD Anaheim for $13. I like them but they're not as seen on screen; they match the armor plastic and look "the part" but you'd need a pretty bulky vinyl pouch if you don't use the belt hanger it gives you

Maybe original lenses could help you get the rugitity you need

Keep looking at different ATA builds and original helmets for reference. The tubes might not be how you want, but more about what the helmet wants for this step. Trim the head opening after assembly to get as even a line as possible at the connection

I can vouch for these Luger rounds being excellent reproductions. And at that price there's no reason not to include your barrel in my future pipe build, considering real barrels are $50 + s&h and heavy. They'll also keep light from escaping or hide wires well if you use electronics. Very cool!

Nice paint selection, it looks good together. Your brass looks way less glittery and more like a real metal surface than rustoleum for example. Keep it up, the end is near (in a good way)

As a kid I just the mouths were all different lengths, as though the empire scanned each trooper and made all helmets uniform thicknesses rather than uniformally shaped overall. I always liked the ones with the biggest frown(smile?), can you believe I went stunt?

I'd recommend building at least one helmet just to get closer to the Force. Plus you can customize it and can then order another one built for you if you still want later on. Building it might be your favorite part

I just got that/those power cylinders linked to the other day and it's extremely thin in a lot of areas, like the bottom plate and wings FYI. Not sure how they'll hold up to trooping

They used the V2 to recast the ROTJ lids according to starwarshelmets.com. Worth a read

They also have batteries designed like little scuba air tanks, which blends in pretty well as a functional greeblie after paint. User Ukswrath has an all-USB setup with a lot of active components at once, if you need ideas or feedback

Miniscule update, I sanded my 5/8" cover strips and forearms. Still adjusting the fit so they'll rest flush against each other:

Those two examples seem to have different executions, to me. The painted (Dave M?) appears to have round cutouts on the two smallest holes, where the RS clearly has them all squared. Many seem to be a combo of round and squared (maybe due to comparing low-res images vs hi-res). Lesson learned!

You could either extend the rectangles you have, or round off the rectangles into long ellipses/ovals to reach the same height. Slightly different look, both are acceptable. Just don't take too much off
