  1. Referring to the canon/Battlefront discussion, the in-game TK helmets have the tube stripe color on the traps (to save disc space?) and the shadow troopers have blue tube stripes, contrary to Anovos' pictured helmets. So I'd agree that while the BoJ is a canon event in SW history, the characters shown are really just representative. The canonity of shadow troopers outside of the game(s) is another issue, but I doubt Anovos would get into that game without some sort of foreshadowing (lol) from LFL. I ordered a shadow helmet during the last sale just for funzies at this point (not investing in a whole full-price suit), with expectation of them being featured in Rogue One and becoming concretely canonized. Seems like the shadows I've seen trooping have more reflective mouth paint/decals than Anovos' pictures so it'll be very interesting to see (if we'll ever get) an example straight from LFL's prop dept.
  2. Seems like someone described a ROTJ version to a 3D artist without any reference pics The details are "there" but the whole thing is just off
  3. ASUS (for example) makes some laptops with the more-or-less unique feature of being able to upgrade the components. Most laptops are essentially (and intentionally) disposable after a few years due to their inability to update the hardware. So if you're going for longevity I'd recommend investing in one with that feature, if just to save yourself from buying another one soon HP is a tried-and-true brand, but I'd personally avoid Lenovo and Acer. Maybe read some reviews on newegg.com, they're usually helpful. Good luck!
  4. I put the card from a Disney mask onto an Echo fan bracket so it's all about 1" or less from the s-trim without being super-visible
  5. While I applaud your enthusiasm, I sincerely hope you can respect what happened today enough to put the feelings of others before your own philosophical ideals, at least for a short time. I like SW for the personal internal conflict, not for the violence inherent to the fictitious setting. Real lives are in question, and real consideration deserves to be implemented at a societal level surpassing personal convictions. John Nash: what's best for ourselves AND for the group.
  6. You think Disney and/or LFL didn't have a board meeting I which they at least informally voted? It's not up to us unless we personally own enough stock in the parent corporation. We're still just a fringe-class cosplay club that is tolerated at their whim and I think we should act accordingly. I'd hate for this to be viewed as reason the 501st can no longer be ignored by their copyright lawyers etc. when they've been nothing but nice about their request. Not that that's a likely scenario, but still a reason to not wake the giant. Why wouldn't our club in particular observe a "moment of blasterlessness," especially if they're viewed by everyone as such center pieces to the costume? What an opportunity to spread a positive empathetic attitude regarding world events to those who ask about their absence. We should carry banners/flags with crossed-out circles over an E11, and/or some catchy poignant phrases like "Unarmed and Proud," "Blaster-less and Unphased," "Empire of Empathy," or preferably something much better along those lines lol We have a reputation to uphold, after all.
  7. I'm sure you two will do lots of good <br><br> Shadow sale over; regular kit sale is now until Monday. Pretty good price again, if you use a code
  8. Pretty decent sale on shadow trooper helmets and full ensembles for 24 hours and counting: "This offer ends on Friday, November 27th at 11:59pm Central Time *OR when 50 units are sold on Friday, so act now!*" I was able to use my 10% code I got from the key fob, and they gave me another code lol. PM me if you want it, it's good for 2 weeks and I can't afford to buy anything else from them! Happy thanksgiving!
  9. I can't help but take it as respect for victims, and not as fear of aggressors at all. LFL can't make anyone leave their registered and licensed concealed handguns at home; no rights are being tread-upon. I respect Vern's, Aaron's and everyone else's opinions equally, including LFL. But it's their event, movies, IP, etc. and we should CHOOSE to leave our blasters at home for the same reasons we observe moments of silence without backlash regarding our 1st amendment rights. Respect is a more potent antidote than many want us to acknowledge.
  10. I haven't bought a FO TK but here's a video to compare to the OT TK mask. The Vader and Kylo Ren seem functionally identical, so I assume the TKs haven't changed much either.
  11. You're not wrong, but the JK2 "shadowtroopers" are weird-but-cool dark Jedi / TK hybrids. "Shadow Troopers" are the ones from TFU with dark grey armor and blue accent LEDs. "Shadow Stormtroopers" (Spec Ops or "Black Hole stormtroopers") are the black / chrome suits I think you're originally asking about. <a data-ipb='nomediaparse' href='http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Shadow_stormtrooper'>http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Shadow_stormtrooper</a>
  12. The TFA ones have a total of only 6 quotes iirc, which at this point we can only assume are actually from the movie. I'd guess they used the same or similar hardware, but it kind of pales in comparison to the 20+ classic ANH lines. On the bright side, it'd be much easier to memorize and utilize a list of 6 pretty generic "law-enforcement" lines ("Freeze!" "Take them away." etc.) than a list of 26 context-specific lines in ALMOST film-sequential order. Get them while they're available if you ever want one; I genuinely lament buying only one OT mask before they were discontinued. But the 13" talking action figures have the same quotes, only with blaster SFX and a LED replacing the voice changer, and both gen's figures are cheaper than what the masks are going for these days (if you're just gonna gut them anyhow)
  13. Start building your stun batons and riot shields, FOs! The rest of us will have to resort to throwing punches and thermals! (kidding... kind of). Less facetiously, I wonder if OTs could work out a way to be "allowed" to have ultra-dummy blaster rear-ends to stick in our holsters or something, if just to keep them from flapping around lol. Also, will DTD not sell their white and orange-tipped toy E11s (or other blasters, or FrontierLand rifle/revolver toys) for the first few days, or do they "not resemble guns" enough to be okay? (Not trying to be a wise guy or get around anything, just pondering the parameters of their request.) On Topic: I noticed in a mirror-filled pic I saw of a room full of supposed Fluffy Bunnies buckets, they had thick (undertrimmed) ears and also didn't have liners (likely DIY kits). I still wish they'd just show us an example of what we bought, but at this rate it might end up being the best surprise ever if they're made with enough care. P.S. it started raining just as I read Eric unlocked it
  14. According to wookiepedia, it was originally reverse engineered from shapes seen in the theatrical versions in '96 by the maker of a SW role playing board game. Then it kept getting updated, but not to the point of functionality separate from English's rules. The more I think about it, the more I think it would take a true genius his/her lifetime to accomplish (Tolkein, indeed). Heck of a pipe-dream, but SW really deserves it
  15. [Thanks for the replies!]<br> They speak English in the films; I was under the impression that Standard Galactic Basic = American English ("aluminum"), where High Galactic = British English ("aluminium"). If Arebesh mimics the Latin alphabet [thank you for the correction!], then where are all the pronunciation indicators? Theoretically then there'd be several possible spellings of words ("dog" vs "dawg"). And Radiotelephony is even further away from a real language, since we say "delta wing," not "duh wing," and also don't pronounce "dog" as "delta-oscar-golf," right? That's used to designate drop-zones, targets, etc., generally replacing a noun with a code word for that noun, not to spell out words the way a true alphabet is used. My point is that neither direct mirroring nor radiotelephony can account for the lack of any indication of how to pronounce the written word (other than understanding spoken English and knowing the script lol). But since we DO know the vocal half, we have to try to use Aurebesh to denote those sounds, every last one, which gets less and less possible the more you try to actually utilize it as illustrated above. Or am I just crazy?
  16. I've been trying to become fluent in Aurebesh, but I'm coming across some issues that seem to have been overlooked. Mainly, the Greek alphabet we use for English has nothing to do with their sounds, so it's a logical fallacy to literally transpose the 26 letters (34 with digraphs). One must use the International Phonetic Alphabet to "spell with sounds" in the way that language works, so there must be (Aurebesh) characters for every sound, rather than for every (Greek) letter (which have several "correct" pronunciations). For example, would the "o" in the word "dog" would be spelled with an Aurek or with an Osk? This could explain different pronunciations of Han's name ("lawn" vs "pan"). But what really troubles me is the lack of a strong "ee" digraph (SE trilogy spells "tractor beam" using transposed letters) so how would one spell "TatooINE" without a character representing that sound? T-a-t-oo-y-n ("y" = "ee")? Not "...i-n-e" because that's pronounced "eye-neh" considering "Jedi." WDW simply transposed its spelling as well, without even utilizing Orenth ("oo") which is technically inaccurate based on its own rules. I know the short answer is "it's a movie..." but I want the long answer to be contemplated! There must be ONE linguist who likes SW enough to make it universally applicable to any fan's language, not just those represented with the Greek Alphabet.<br> Here's a link to the IPA that speaks its pronunciations:<br> <a data-ipb='nomediaparse' href='http://www.internationalphoneticalphabet.org/ipa-sounds/ipa-chart-with-sounds/'>http://www.internationalphoneticalphabet.org/ipa-sounds/ipa-chart-with-sounds/</a>
  17. Pretty sure I read that steel doesn't like to braze to aluminum, hence Dday's steel receivers. What others have done is (carefully!) use a hammer and thin nail (or anything strong and thin enough) to tap out the little rods in the pivots holding the stock's arms to the cut piece of receiver. Then you can use a plastic or metal tube to replicate the bar it swivels upon and connect that to your receiver (Aluminum-to-Aluminum braze or pegs and glue). I have some 2014 DVH parts too, they'll treat you well! (Mine had lots of big air bubbles/pockets even, I hope yours doesn't)
  18. Well you'd at least be required to have an orange tip, if not a giant yellow flag that says PROP or something. I'd hope anyone there would recognize the context is very different than even the Batman tragedy, with explicitly invited and fully identified / background-checked 501st members This is why I'll be going as a Jedi instead, at least for this particular premier.
  19. I'll open the tiny bag and list it off everything to make sure I'm not missing anything (only jj would know! lol). I'm considering making it a snowtrooper's if the only difference is the paint job. I found a cheap AR-15 stock on Amazon but I'm not sure if it'll be close enough. Maybe with a resin cheek rest piece (or even cannibalized off a Rubies?)
  20. Oh I only meant I'd be proud to have your art on my blaster, not trying to buy one from you. Thanks for the links!
  21. Looks like standard Imperial issue to me! (Do we get to see how they're stored in the new trilogy? lol)
  22. I'd love a printed sight post housing Much appreciated!
  23. Putting this in general until there's a proper location for all the new weaponry. (Also, mods feel free to add the "D" missing in the title.) Got my brown box today, will update with pics. Big thanks to the whole JJ crew!
