Just got approval from the Budget Office yesterday and am looking for lodgings and shopping for airfare. Anyone else going?
-
Is that yours FON then? Looks sweet

People can say what they want about Matt as a person, but boy does TE make some nice looking kit. Caleb - this is going to be awesome and I for one can't wait to see this come together. Great job

Any good stormtrooper commander guides out?
Daetrin replied to sweeneyb's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
What Vincent said! Two troopers did an awful lot of work compiling screen shots and diagrams. I think there is plenty of info there. Also check out the CRL and EIB standards, as mentioned. -
Yup, there sure is a group in Vancouver. If you ever want a change of scenery, you can head down to my neck of the woods in Seattle. Vancouver is probably one of if not the the best cities in North America to live - you're lucky for ending up there.

Dr Martens Boots for Trooping?
Daetrin replied to Turpulus's topic in Boots, Soft Parts, and other Accessories
I think they'd be fine for 501st acceptance but it's a hard call. Not for EIB, though I guess we don't say there, huh? Mainly it's due to the sole. I think if you painted it black it may work. For $110 though you could get a pair of black johdpur boots and have a cobbler paint them white. -
That is totally awesome! Talk about death to the old FX. Rob - if you're ever open to selling me a lid I'd like to have one to see in person. I bet seeing is believing for many. Rock on Rob!

Sweet - and that's a man's man company too. Hope it's doing something super cool

Star Wars “Prototype” Stormtrooper Helmets
Daetrin replied to TK4205's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
Glad to see it all out in the open. Fascinating and well worth the time to read. -
Actually I think of the whole disk as TK music. It's really a movie about us, no? We're in most every pivotal scene in the movie (if you include our time in TD gear).

I tried to eat two microwavable chicken quesidillas, but in the end just ate trail mix as the quesadillas tasted funny.

TK 2739 requesting EIB status.[72][TM]
Daetrin replied to 89Batman's topic in Request Expert Infantry Status
Status updated - welcome #72! -
It's better to say that ATA, like TE2, GF, AP, etc. are *more* accurate, not *accurate*. There is a gradient from FX as the least to TM as the most as far as ANH style armor is concerned. The TE derived suits are not as accurate as TM, but much closer than FX. The helmets are a different story, as the TE derived lineage is from an actual helmet.

TM AnH Helmet in screen used look
Daetrin replied to Turrican's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
Absolutely awesome - talk about prop replication -
Agreed - what's your criteria? There is no one "best" armor.

He did a lot of trimming already - your job is much easier for that

Yup - this was done by a garrison mate of mine. It's his wife actually who is a 501st member and her girlfriend. They did a great job and it was pretty funny And yes - he has an *awesome* collection.

Showing it off. Finally!
Daetrin replied to TK8776 jgarrettg's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
Awesome! I'd tighten up the sides, but otherwise it's spot on. Yeah - you make life easy for your GML -
FYI I updated the EIB and CRL standards. They are now both part of the forum proper and not external, static HTML pages. Also, I re-organized the CRL parts as it was a maintenance headache to repeat so much of the information on every costume, so there is a BASE part just like for the EIB. I'll be updated with pix as my next step - at least the text is now formatted and easier to find.

SE-14R For ANH EIB
Daetrin replied to firebladejedi's topic in FISD Expert Infantry Badge (EIB) Requirements
Actually it should have been an approved *option* for ANH. I've added it back in - not sure how it got omitted. -
Draft CRL for the TK Commander - 501st base stds
Daetrin replied to Daetrin's topic in Stormtrooper Commander
FYI I've created two new topics: CRL : ----------- EIB ---------- I'd like to continue to use the thread we're on for discussion, and will update the above two threads as conclusions are made. -
NOTE: these requirements may be out of date. Please use the requirements now captured at http://www.whitearmor.net/home/requirements/base.html MUST HAVE Armor Details[/color] * White Stormtrooper armor, made in ABS, HIPS, or fiberglass. * Black Gloves made of rubber, leather, or leather like material. Black nomex flight gloves are an acceptable alternative. * Black under suit, either one-piece or two piece. Non-textured material. Commonly used items include “UnderArmor” or “Starter” warm-up suits, or dance unitards. * White, ankle high, lace less, Stormtrooper boots. The boots are usually made from leather or vinyl, with small U-shaped elastic sections on either side of the ankle, and an approx. 1” heel. * Drop boxes (small rectangular parts attached to stormtrooper’s belts, above the thigh), connected to the belt via white straps * O2 Canister (aka thermal detonator) center mounted on the back of the belt * "Buttons and ridges" ab plate, as opposed to the flat rectangular ab plate of sandtroopers * Polygon knee plate mounted on the left shin, as opposed to the diamond knee plate of sandtroopers * Ribbed shoulder straps * Black ribbed neck seal. The ribs should be horizontal, not be loose, and should extend from the base of the neck to the top of the Adam's apple. * Correctly colored and sized ab plate buttons. Buttons are approximately 7/16" in diameter. * No visible rivets on shoulder straps * Belt should be canvas or canvas covered, approximately 3" wide. * Separate kidney and butt pieces rather than a single back piece. Cut should be visible below the belt. * Side gaps must be closed. A shim can be used to bridge any noticeable gap. Ideally shims will be added in a seamless fashion to the ab/kidney plates to emulate these parts of the armor meet in the middle though this is not required. The shim must be made of matching plastic or painted to match the suit - no fabric closures are allowed. Helmet Details * Black Hovi-Mix cast “tusks” * Blue tube stripes * IMPORTANT: FX helmets are NOT considered acceptable for Expert Infantryman qualification. Blaster Details * Scratch-built, resin cast, hyperfirm rubber cast, or modified toy blaster. * Ammo Magazine * Folding stock (does not need to function) * Scope * D-Ring on the end * Scratch-built, resin cast, Hyperfirm rubber cast. -- Total of 6 T-racks on blaster (leaving the lowest row on the Hengstler side uncovered) * Hasbro blasters: -- Total of 7 T-racks (if you cover all the original Hasbro rows of holes) -- or 6 T-racks (if you cover the original Hasbro "open row" of holes on the Hengstler side. Below this, you must grind off the original Hasbro lower T-rack and drill a new row of holes) -- Hasbro blasters are discouraged but allowed SHOULD HAVE Armor Details * Drop boxes should be closed in back

SE-14R For ANH EIB
Daetrin replied to firebladejedi's topic in FISD Expert Infantry Badge (EIB) Requirements
Correct. It's an EU approved accessory. In some ways it's a bit of an FISD mascot - it shows up on our merch and branding from time to time but it can never be part of any 501st or EIB requirement, except perhaps as a "may have". So you *must have* an E-11 to get EIB, but you *may* use an the SE-14R as a substitute when trooping. This is a bit like the comlink/grapling hook. The 501st standard requires as a *must have* a 02 cylinder (e.g. TD), however the EIB allows you to - for ANH - use the combination of comlink/grapling hook in lieu of it when you make a submission.
