The costume is already 501st approved. It's simply gorgeous and a great alternative to white armor (did I even say that?).

D-ring - is it a requirement for EIB (ANH)
Daetrin replied to Rich330's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Yup, D-ring required for the Expert Infantryman Badge: http://www.whitearmor.net/home/requirements/anh.html Sonneshein sells the, or you can actually make your own from a metal coat hanger and some paint. -
Agreed - for me it's all time & $$$ and I suspect it's the same for most. There's what we want, and what we can afford. I'd also love my helmet to be tricked out not only with fans and 100% self contained vox, but also the ability to - without using my hands - toggle between external vox, my mp3 player, or my cell phone. And, have a small LED readout on my lens that showed current time/temperature/direction, and perhaps could also scroll down my email. And be able able to snap pix too from line of sight. This technology exists today to do all that, but I bet it would cost at least $5000 in parts and labor to make it happen, just like wanting a de-act Sterling conversion that also had the BlasterCore in it ($3000?).

I'd suggest biting your tongue less then To some extent it depends on the end goal of the person : are they trying to go for prop recreation to the maximum extent they can or are they just trying to capturing an idealized version? For example let's say that there are 15 different possible versions of the E-11 used in the films. This is great for prop recreators, but for most 501st troops who are just trying to enjoy trooping they prefer less choice - give them a base standard of a few options that are readily obtainable and then should this not be enough for their fandom, then provide the list of the 15 variants. For instance Rolf documented 19 variations of sandtroopers, and while this is a great reference for what could be should people try to re-create it, trying to document this for say a Costume Reference for general membership would probably be overly detailed. Again - two audiences: 1) 501st members for trooping / general costuming purposes 2) Die hard people trying to recreate props as exactly as they can

TK-3121 Requesting EIB ANH Stunt[109][AP]
Daetrin replied to TrooperTim's topic in Request Expert Infantry Status
I think you look great. Head on down to the detention level, they're having some sort of reactor leak... -
I agree with Smitty. Send it to me and I'll ensure it's...um...loved and cared for
-
The screen caps from it should be valuable reference material too.
-
I guess a Flash-ish intro would be fine if someone wanted to volunteer to do one, however given all the security issues with Flash and with the advent of HTML5, I'd like to use either SilverLight or HTML5 as the underpinnings.
-
Painting it should be perfectly fine.

Nice! Please cross-post the progress thread - this will be excellent

Budget TK boots from Target
Daetrin replied to Feezle's topic in Boots, Soft Parts, and other Accessories
Nice! Wish he offered Officer boots too -
A. Men. Why they haven't done so before...

I think that would be great! You know for a long time MEPD didn't require exact replicas of one of the three screen used weapons, nor even limited it to a screen used weapon. MG-42's or any large BFG was fine. We saw the same thing for clone weapons too - lots of early variation until suppliers and details were eventually nailed down.

Any armor - even Rubies - can be made to be EIB. Some just take more work than others. FX armor actually only requires TWO unique items to make it EIB : 1. Replace ab plate buttons 2. Throw away silver stickers from O2 cylinder Other items that need mod are not unique to FX 1. Close side gaps (true for anyone who needs to shim, but more so for FX) 2. Cut the butt plate (AP also needs this) 3. Get a non-plastic belt (all armor makes need this) So you see, FX armor is can be made EIB for the cost of a set of ab plate buttons. It's not really much of a stretch at all.

EIB Page requests * Fix Academy version -> need to remove the left menu to allow 800 pix with for four across (req by Daetrin). If not possible show them in 3 columns instead of 4. * Update data file to have everyone's awarded date (33 records missing) Site Requests * Bring back the b-day droid (req by tkrestonva) * Fix search box in IE8 (req by Daetrin) * Have fixed topic backgrounds or image headers for topics (req by quebectrooper) * Donors page showing who contributed, when and at what level. (req by a donor)

Yup. The CRL's/EIB's are drafted off of the experience of the first Legion approved Incinerator Trooper, so if you comply with the CRL "must haves" you should be good to go.

Alas, I'm a PC so will wait for the MSFT version. Still, my wife just loves her iPhone (doesn't everyone?) and I can see how these will be driving the next wave of consumer electronics.

I agree - shins are pretty much the only thing that jumps out. You're looking great trooper
-
That would be helpful. Another option is to drill out the buttons. I ended up using VaderDave buttons on my TE2 for instance.

BSG forum? Oh yeah, all set

AM, TM, RT are the three largest makes for height. We have some other taller troopers here - they should be able to advise as well.

Troops, After taking a look at what other detachments are doing, it's clear that FISD is just gotten too big and should be devolved. Effective today I'm making the following fiats: 1) There are no more votes on anything - it's my way or the highway. This is how it used to be back in the day, and we're reviving that practice. 2) Staff - other dets get by with just a DL & XO, so why not FISD? As of today all other staff are terminated. 3) We're moving the forums. phpBB2 was good enough in 2005 and everyone is being tired of being asked to upgrade all the time. Our fans can't tell the difference anyway from more than few feet away, so why bother all the cost and time. I thought of moving to a Yahoo group, but as they are just not made anymore the only way I can get one is from a friend of a friend. He swears it's from the real Yahoo - hey who am I to argue? 4) FISD will just not focus on one costume - the the FrankenTrooper. All the EU stuff is PU skittle stuff anyway so off to SpecOps they go. Fans can't tell the difference between the movie versions anyway, so why bother making any distinctions ourselves? Heck, let's bring the FUN back to costuming! 5) EIB is being dissolved as it's too elitist and takes the fun away from trooping. 6) I've taken it upon myself to recast everyone and you can have copies for free if you come to my house. Heck, none of us "own" this stuff anyway. Just bring beer or some Bailey's and we'll all call it good. 7) I'm also banning Laws, TM, AP, RT, ATA, and TE2 forever because they won't like the above policy and they'll be mean to me. I'm bringing back my true friends - you know who they all are. After that I will do nothing the rest of the year. Heck, if I do nothing, then there is nothing to criticize at all and I'm a shoo-in for re-election! I'm going to make the XO do all the posting and stop answering PM's. Works for other leaders in the Legion and they're still around, so seems a great practice IMNSHO. I don't know about you, but getting rid of all these "rules" from "the man" and getting back to what the club should be will be great - cheap booze and cheap armor for everyone!
