Alas, that's come up from time to time and always gets shot down. We can't make money on aught we do, and having garrison treasurers has always been seen as the first step in a slippery slope we don't want to fall down. It's better in the long run to pay-as-you-go for all items. My $.02...
-
Hmm...it depends. For conventions we do pay for things like electricity but usually get free passes as exhibitors. Steve Sansweet himself has said - and I heard this first hand from his mouth in person - that we should never pay to troop. By that he means if the drive is more than a few hours, we can ask for gas money. If we need lodging, they pay for it. If the troop is more than a few hours long they provide snacks and if during meal times, meals as well. As noted, unless it's a charity we also request a donation for us to appear.

Well, you're not the first and not the last. I'd say just wear the crap out of it until it falls apart. Since you know it's recast now anyway, why not have fun with it? Try sitting down, try doing the rolled edges mod. I mean it's not like you paid $1500 for a set of kit and would cry should there be a boo boo. My $.02 - my first set was eBay bought FX and it eventually became a TD (sandtrooper). By the time I sold it, I had trooped the Rose Bowl parade in it and it actually had gouges from use.

RT is another option for tall guys. The reality is...it depends. We've had people 6'4" make TE armor work. At the end of the day the black gaps are really only in the legs especially around the knee area, and there is not much for it as most of the armor makes are pretty much the same in the length of the legs. Otherwise, the "black gap" is really not an issue that I'm aware of.

It would still be useful to get latest reviews. In the past VT was considered irregular quality - some pulls soft, some helmets thin, etc. Later reports seeem to indicate he's figured out his quality issues. Anyone have recent - e.g. past 6 months - experience?

TK-2959 Requesting ANH Stunt EIB.[137][TM]

Wee! Congrats #137 and the 8th for the Nordic Garrision -
We love you too Jim! As noted it was a joke playing on both sides extremes. And yes, while some in the 501st may laugh, it wasn't that long ago that out of the box FX was in the majority and we used to tease the RL for having bathrobe Jedi's in turn. Things have evolved very fast in both groups - faster than many members probably remember (and I say this as there are now only 6 active people in GT that have been in the garrison longer than I have, other garrions MMV). The Mercs are evolving equally fast, and it's perhaps best to remember that people in glass houses rule. The UK Garrison excepted perhaps, there are still areas of the 501st that are still back where things where in 2005.

Belt observation: Different box sizes?
Daetrin replied to Sonnenschein's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Not sure and hopefully someone else knows. I wonder if there were different sculpts? I have noticed for TE based armor at least there are at a minimum of two different styles, and am not sure if any of them are really taken from a suit or if they are all built parts. I know the ab button detail for sure is built, not cast. -
Hey Darren - don't forget to request 501st access then - you may have more info on the 501st only boards.
-
Pretty much all the legitimate makers of helmets can be found on this board and you can find them on the "where to buy" thread. You can get a kit for much less or equal and with some work make something nicer. Also, several vendors sell pre-trimmed helmets for not much more, and the quality will be better. Lastly, as Vic says people sell used helmets all the time on this forum that are comparable in price.
-
Actually, what is strange is that we're one of the most open boards in the 501st, perhaps alongside MEPD. Are you referring to FISD, or the Legion as a whole? Also, I'd like to think that we've done quite a bit to blow open the information sharing. If you think it's bad now, recall how the 501st was about stormtrooper armor 5 years ago...

Wow - easy pass. I was going to have you help out on the party heading down to the detention center - something to do with a reactor leak - but instead think such a great job as yours would be better guarding the Falcon, case Vader walks by. -
I think the very reason we have a forum at all is to share information, else why are we here? http://www.cnn.com/2010/TECH/innovation/10/15/how.to.innovate/index.html?hpt=C2 "What I'm saying is individuals have better ideas if they're connected to rich, diverse networks of other individuals. If you put yourself in an environment with lots of different perspectives, you yourself are going to have better, sharper, more original ideas," he told Salon. What Paul - or anyone else - does or not to reveal his information is entirely up to him, and I don't judge him for it. And, it's not like flaunting a store of hidden information is a habit of his, unlike some others in the community. I'd suggest if someone really wants to know instead of beating up on Paul they just do their own research. I've only been at this 5 years and confess I don't really frequent other boards like RPF much, but secrets are really hard to keep secret and sooner or later the information all comes out anyway, just like TE's photo disk. I'm sure even TE know it would all surface, which is why he charged so much and put different sets of images on each disk to at least make it expensive for the community to compile all those photos.

Hell have no furry like a womans scorn for star wars
Daetrin replied to Defiance7x13's topic in Off Topic
This was made by garrison mates of mine. The figure was defective and SS would send him a replacement if he showed proof he destroyed the one he had. So they did this as a fun way of breaking the figure. And yes, I've seen this collection in person. -
Yup, these are certainly copy/paste errors where the same text was used but not updated. To be honest, to date no one has really gone through them with that level of detail. Also realize the intent is not to capture every possible permutation, but the canonical representation with an eye for trooping. Thus you'll see nomex gloves as being OK as for 501st purposes they are, even though this was not the case in the films. Keep them coming though - we'll compile at the end of the week and send them as a batch update.
-
Under Construction notes, or in the section on gloves themselves? I ask in that the holes to sew the hand plates out is in the former, not with the item itself.

True that! Food, wine, architecture, literature, more actors hitting Hollywood, good looking people...at least from the US it does seem Spain is having a nice time of it. It's the new Australia. ;-) -
Alas, I think it's too short notice. I'm in class all next weekend on the companies' dime, and a $5000 class is hard to skip out of, unnoticed.
-
Tony - please relay my sympathies on to the Mrs. and prayers for a speedy recovery. Alas it's SoCal, else if it were NoCal I'd probably figure out a way to fly down just to buy you that beer. Peace be with you - it's *always* good to hear from you.

Yup. You can look at http://www.whitearmor.net/home/crlwip/140_Stormtrooper_ICN/index140.htm to see the types of shots and angles we need.
