  1. Currently we don't specify the number of ear bumps for EI simply because special ears are so hard to get ahold of. It's a "should have" and at some point in the future will probably be a "must have". Certainly when we re-visit the topic of "better than EIB status" it will be there. IIRC I got my 3 bump ears from John Danter, and I think RT may also make them on demand.
  2. Former MEPD XO and FISD Provost Marshall, Tony has been a tradition in the armor world for quite some time. Here's a Corona to your health bro!
  3. A very happy birthday to one of the 501st's finest
  4. Actually the number of EI only gold coins is about the same as what we need to catch MEPD. I'd suggest if anyone is eyeing getting their EIB and wants a coin, that they best do so soon before the coins are gone.
  5. Looks great Steve! Can't wait to see this get approved
  6. If you're going to get black gloves, you can get them cheap most anywhere. You can also get them from Sonneshein with the latex hand plates already attached.
  7. Please share. I know RT isn't the cheapest, but if he can make them to measure it would be well worth it. I ask in that at 6'0", the legs are what give me the most fits on TE derived armor. I already replaced the shins with RT shins, and can attest to how well they fit taller troopers. * * The TE2 shins needed shimming and still didn't fit quite right, the RT do not and fit perfectly.
  8. FWIW, this is off the top of my head and I'm sure someone else will fill in the other details.
  9. A bit of both really. Most of the armor is from the same base as all other TE derived armor, but the belt at least is different. Also, the knee plate is TM copy and the compad on the thermal detonator is crashman copy. The canonical TE base suit is derived from a background ROTJ suit and parts of a tour suit IIRC. However some TE derived makers swap out or clean up parts and thus they start to deviate from each other. The information is all around us, and I know some people have started creating a family tree with lineages, but so far none has appeared. Would be great though to see this in text form and then visually like the breakdowns here : http://forum.mepd.net/index.php?showtopic=7251
  10. 1. Holster the blaster (not always easy) 2. Simply hold the blaster by the barrell in the non-firing hand (easy).
  11. Here would be my Nirvana: * Speakers mounted behind the hovis. Personally I find they can be loud enough and the feedback problem solved, and I like the idea of sound coming from the helmet. * No wires between the helmet & armor. * A tongue switch or something I can reach with my hand at the base of my helmet to toggle between -- No vox -- helmet speakers -- FRS -- Cellphone I think the main problem with PTT is...PTT. For the most part with helmet speakers or cell phone, there is no PTT, so it's really an FRS issue, no? Ideally the throat mike or similar when registering you talking would in essence "push" the FRS PPT feature, then "release" when you stop. Honestly I think a PTT on the belt seems the least obtrusive. Also, I'm wondering if using the back of a drop box as a control panel might not be an option. Or, just using a comlink as a PTT device - I mean it will look film canon at least
  12. If I recall, they attacked the outpost down there first, with no provocation. You're just defending yourself.
  13. Every iteration it gets better - keep up the excellent work Julie
  14. The easiest way to get that lived in look is to just toss your kit in the bin and not worry if things rub together. I already have scuffs on several parts of my armor, and the paint is starting to ship on the hand plates (thanks Karin!) as well as paint rubbing off the boots. I'm in agreement with all: - lived in look/scuffs : fine for any TK costume - light weathering, particularly if using the blackwash treatment used on some clones, as well as paint chips, etc. are actually preferred. EU TK's only: Heavy Weapons, TK Commander, Incinerator Trooper - - heavy weathering, especially using lighter colors and sand effects Best used for sandtroopers
  15. Actually not true. In fact, FISD probably has the most aggressive anti-recast stance of any detachment in the Legion, save perhaps CTN (or at least they used to be extremely anti-recast). If you note, there are no recasters openly selling on FISD. One can argue about CAP-W & ATA, but: 1) TE basically ostracized himself from these boards and pretty much the entire 501st costuming community, and we've been given evidence of a peace between TE & CAP in the past that makes is appear that CAP is cleared. 2) CAP-W (who now has CAP) is not selling armor due to the fact that two of the parts on the CAP kit are not TE derived but recast from other makes, and thus the lineage is still not validated. Helmets are cleared. 3) ATA is 2nd generation of CAP, has replaced the questionable parts, and also that ATA continously sharpens and alters his molds to make them more accurate, and thus distances himself with each generation from the TE base. 4) CAP himself could care less about recasting his kit, so if one recasts that is it bad? You'll not see any PT armor here, and Vaj and others who recast on the side are usually silent on these boards. And this point though, there is a separate section on these boards for recasting and it's disucssion, and we should move the conversation there rather than contiue on an armor area.
  16. But you can at least play laser tag
  17. ATA all the way - he's the perfect size. Or, there are ABS makers for TE derived armor such as T/MC and AP that are reputable. While there are small differences between them (e.g. dimples on the arms, belt, etc.) they are far smaller than the difference between TE derived & AM.
  18. As mentioned many times, one needs to differentiAte between the kit and what one does with it. Would one rather a well done CAP or ATA or a poorly done GIno or TE2?
  19. Pix would help too.
  20. What you are describing is exactly what the Academy site is for: www.whitearmor.net/home/ Anyone is free to propose content to Terry (PandaTrooper). The issue with threads is that as noted they get stale over time. Thus the Academy should have the latest info, with links to relevant build threads on the forum. Does that make sense?
  21. Popping in some ZZ-Top as well - Steve I'm confident will do an awesome job
  22. LOL - only one of a few with a hat trick. I need to get off my an impolite person and get some new ESB pix taken - I'm only showing one EI myself and should hit my triple next month.
  23. If you bring it across the border, you may not get it back ;-)
  24. October 2010: I'm am pleased to add Sonnenschein (Karin Petschuch) to the rolls of FISD Achievement Award winners. She has resurrected the art of latex hand plates and selflessly shares all her information, in addition to also helping out troops acquire d-rings. I'd also like to congratulate Mason Carson, for his outstanding work in fleshing out the Incinerator Trooper for the 501st and FISD. This ranged from the first ever flamethrower build-out, adding game textures, paint references, hyper accurate pauldron build - as our first (and so far only) ICN EIB, he's created the bar for all troopers to follow. Congrats troops!
  25. Can't wait to see pix, and another ICN
