  1. Carsten - who do you define as the prop making community? I ask in that let's use the DIY forum as an example. It's certainly not a costuming forum, and they engage in blatent, open, and unencumbered recasting of any kind. I'll agree that there is unneveness in the 501st at least. Some forums like CTN (clonetroopers.net) are very aggressive anti-recasting, while others (particularly local garrisions) seem a free for all, while others like MEPD seem not to be targeted by such controversy.
  2. Another great submission by the Singapore garrison! While Mason is right only the TD needs to be fixed, I agree with FBJ that trimming the belt corners while you're at it will improve the look. Well done
  3. I like it a lot You don't have to go crazy to give it a worn look, and this came out great.
  4. We'd need 700 EI to do that. I'll be happy if we hit 200 EI by the end of the year and 10 Centurions by that same time frame.

    Original ANH

The downside about this version is that I think the "original" are just copies of the vob's from the old LaserDisk verison, which while picture-wise is close it still has Episode IV on it and also only has stereo (2 channel) sound. There's a really good fan edit of ANH where he took the base movie and blended it with some SE elements and custom CGI work that is now my favorite. Don't recall the name here at work, but I'm sure someone (Tom?) will chime in
  6. It does indeed. Having you here to provide direct, honest, and accurate information is a true blessing for us.
  7. That's a great question. I think it was FBJ who pointed out the 6 tooth helmet in ESB, but I can't find the photo reference anymore.
  8. At long last, I'm pleased to announce that FISD finally has more Expert Infantryman than MEPD has Police Officers. Kudos to BananoPower22 (Juan) from the Puerto Rico garrison for pushing us over the top! W00t!
  9. Doh! My math was wrong. You did it Juan - you are the trooper that for the first time ever put FISD over MEPD in terms of deployed troopers. Way to go!!!
  10. Woo-hoo! Congrats Juan - it's a tie game now
  11. As you may have noticed the site was down for awhile. Bluey, Dmian, and Synaptyx dove in to the issue and finally found the root cause. Kudos to the web team for doing some excellent detective work and getting us back online, with the gummi bear award going to Synaptyx for making the final fix. Tip your glass to these gentlemen folks - they deserve every kudo!
  12. Thanks so much for understanding. As a former GML myself it's pained me have things in limbo or a quasi-state of approval, or having to have two sets of "guides", the visual for the Legion and ours which we can't say is official either. The current LMO's have with the Legion web-team done a bang-up job of allowing us to finally get an actual requirements list that show "must haves" and "should haves" all in one place along with a pictorial guide. It's so good that once completed I can then remove having them on our site and just reference the Legion ones. Almost there - I know it's been we've been saying for a while but this time I feel like it's really going to come true.
  13. Hi Lou - waaay back that person was the only set of pictures we had from any member, and they've since been taken down. The Legion CRL at http://www.501st.com/crl/TK_CRL/140_Stormtrooper_ICN/index140.php has always shown the correct images, and I apologize that we didn't get around to cleaning up the version we had on FISD until recently. Part of that reason was simply that there were no written requirments as it was all LMO call and we had a disclaimer to check with the LMO for that reason on them, and it's only been with the new LMO's that we're allowed to actually have written requirements for the CRL, and thus if you look at the current requirements lists both here & on the Legion board that they reflect this.
  14. Mu-ha-ha-ha...it is as the Emperor has forseen...
  15. What Mason said - almost there bro!
  16. Looks great so far, esp. that it's a test fit. If you submit now you'll probably get deferred on two things that will be mandatory to correct, and a signing notes one a few others: Two are paint related. If you look at the screen cap... 1. You'll see that the chest stripe is not correct. It should go all the way down to the bottom of the chest, and stop about 1" to 1-1/2" below the pauldron. 2. the biceps have a ring of red on the top inside of the bicep, yours do not. Some things they make allow for now but ask you revise later: 1. The front bicep stripe is narrower than what you have. 2. Bottom of thighs can probably be more tapered to fit you 3. Paint on top of thighs doesn't quite match the reference: Now, if you really want to bump the accuracy, you can... 1. Add the little rivet tab covers on the outsides of the plastic belt front 2. And the missing holster rivets to the belt:
  17. Back down to two - almost there...
  18. Well deserved - great job Darren - and way to stick with it to the end
  19. This is what I use: http://videoget.com/
  20. Is there a reason it wasn't 3-D scanned? Expense?
  21. Absolute aces. You have the king of TKC's right there
  22. That's an LMO call. Honestly I think the custom pauldron is fine but he's the boss. You can always push for an appeal through your GML.
  23. I'd suggest everyone take a wait and see approach. I can think of a few reasons why it may not be "all the rage". While I do wish them the best in their endeavor, it's one thing to have the suit and the second to be able to do something of quality with it. To wit: 1) What will the quality of the pulls be like? Will they be soft? Will they get every detail? 2) What material will they be offered in - HIPS, ABS? 3) What material thickness will it be offered in? 4) What is the cost? 5) How easy is it to build/assemble? 6) How available is it? Even if you had a flawless copy if it cost $3000, took a year to get on the order list, an d was so thin/brittle/etc. that it didn't hold up to trooping - would it be worth it for most people? As for "doing it properly" if money were no object I'd think you'd 3D scan the whole thing, no? Still, I'm sure they have their reasons. In any event - it seems premature to speculate and make comment until there are real parts to evaluate, etc. People got pretty excited about Dan Laws armor too that never materialized. Let's give Si-Man & crew the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise, shall we?
