  1. I had to get the lenses separately, but I asked for Hero and that was the only part he said he didn't have. I'm hopeful that it will be an awesome specimen of a Hero helmet. Ship date is looking like the end of September at last notification, so getting closer now. I'll surely take 300millions of photos.
  2. Well, on my kit I drilled the holes to the exact width the screws ask for, it means they only get a small bite, but with a dab of CA glue inside, it's a done deal. The problem is with this stuff vs wood or something else, is it has 0 give. so when you screw into it, it's not like wood where the side gives away a little to make a bigger hole, it just stays exactly where it is. The other possibility is your mold is bubbles and doesn't have a lot of internal strength due to this. The droopy I have seen aren't bubbled at all compared to my resin version, so my guess is the hole is to small. At this point, put some CA glue in the crack, clamp it together, then if needed add some filler and sand it down again. redrill the hole a little bigger and retry it.
  3. Has anyone out there done a RT-Mod Hero style? I'm interested in photos of your helmet. I've ordered a Hero helmet from Rob and I'm getting restless so was hoping to get some photos from anyone who has one of these. Thanks! dday
  4. I hacked off the screws and glued on the bolt heads. Since it was a solid resin cast, I should have just screwed them in. They look a bit goofy around the seam, I'm guessing it will clean up with paint since it will begin to look more solid as paint covers them. I put on the primer and will start painting tomorrow. No photos uploaded yet, but will put them in tomorrow after painting for a full update.
  5. That sounds good to me!
  6. Nah, he uses the same mold, I used my dremel to add those details myself. I used my droopys kit as a visual guide thats waiting for this build to finish to add the details. The droopys details are spot on.
  7. Carlos, The snaps at the bottom of the chest and top of the ab, I"m assuming these are to connect the 2 together? Did you not want to do the suspender type inside as well?
  8. Yes, I had the same problem. 2 hardware stores later, I've got smooth heads as well. It should be fine though
  9. Locitus is 100% on that most of the things are super easy to add as you are building the suit. There are a few minor things you can do later, but the majority of the details you add are easy enough to plan into the build from the start.
  10. So I did a lot of cleanup on this one and am almost ready to drill out the 3 hex holes (2 front, 1 bottom of the handle) but I bought the wrong ones! Hah, I got the 8mm head, but in actuality, it looks like I need the 10MM head as it's to small right now. Also, the ones I got do not have ribs around the head, they are smooth. Oh well, back to the store. It's almost ready to prime, sand and paint. I just need to finish the detailing on the magazine and scope, put in the hex heads and paint. It's been sunny the last days, so I was hoping to get it done and ready to paint ASAP, plus, not to mention waiting for gluing time... Adding detailing to the magazine, dremel ran out of power so waiting on a charge. The ejection port guard was super bubbled in the mold so I had to take some extra off around the edge and was super thin in the middle as you can see where it cracked. I'm going to have to try and put some model window maker or something to fill this and seal it before painting.
  11. I look forward to seeing it! I have had to put the build on pause the last weeks, I ran out of snaps, but I got 160 more snaps coming tomorrow, great deal too, only 30 cents a piece! I have counted, I will need approx 70 snaps to complete a suit, so I bought more for when I get and put together my second suit in October.
  12. That's not a bad price based on what I've seen around.
  13. Can't wait, this will be a big seller, getting in line.
  14. The corners on the belt, thats going to be a tough one. I'm pretty sure they are there to taper into the width of the cloth belt, but from your pictures it looks like the belt is almost the same width as the plastic belt, or was it just the angle?
  15. This will work great at a horror convention. I think most people will be to scared to get close enough anywhere else, wow.
  16. Droopys kit can be found on ebay or on his website, www.doopydoos.com/
  17. If you want to build it yourself, I am pretty sure the droopy doos kit is a perfect base. Just check the CRL to see the differences between ANH, ESB and ROTJ. http://www.501st.com/databank/Costuming:TK_rotj and scroll to the very bottom.
  18. So I was considering putting an elastic between the chest and the ab plate to ensure they don't seperate. I think I might have a problem with this in this FX suit I'm building since I'm so tall. I'm going to have to put the chest at the very top of the AB plate and there won't be much room for error. Has anyone tried this and what kind of results and experiences did you have with an elastic between the 2?
  19. I asked this question a few weeks back myself. I'm personally for the spick and span clean look. Empire was on the top of it's game, the soldiers were in their best. Find the line where you feel comfortable acting in your armor, cause it's all for fun, so have fun.
  20. My main armor will be a FX style recast I picked up on the cheap, it will take some extra work and shims, but I will be what I can with it. This is my first build and next month I will be doing a Hero with a RT-Mod kit. So far the only shims I will need are between cod and ab and kidney and butt. The limbs seem to be fitting just right and I am pretty sure I can get the chest and ab plate to match up ok, thats the next step though. I've got the arms chest and back all strapped and ready to go, so almost there.
  21. Dan, Thanks for the tips.after looking at a single piece I'm surely going to need separate pieces, shim them about 4 inches and refuse it. I've been looking around to find a piece of ABS long enough to fit, the two pieces I have right now are about 5 inches to short. I've been trying to talk to ATA about a helmet and belt, but has has been unresponsive the last few days. Do you have to paint the sculpting putty after making the extension, or do you get it in a matching white?

I wouldn't go slinging accusations around. I'm pretty sure he has a reasonable explanation for what is happening, and once you hear it, you'll likely be a bit ashamed for being so brash. He is a respected member of the community, an admin and a detachment leader. you don't get to that point without being reliable and honest. So I'd give him the benefit of the doubt. If you have the possibility, initiate a paypal money return for a non-delivered goods. If it's to late for that, follow up with Loc.
  23. Oh, I also noticed in some shots, your thighs look rotated out some, I was told that they should be snapped into your ab piece to keep them in the right alignment.
  24. Hi Kathy, Great suit, looks really nice and it's obvious you've put in a ton of work to get to this point. I'm far from the source of ultimate advice but I did see a couple things I think they will get brought up. Do you have a strap going from your bicep to forearm? a few pictures they look pretty far apart, I just attached a strap to mine today and it makes a world of difference, plus it allows your wrists to not get all jammed up in the forearms. Also it looks like your biceps are pretty high, but this might just be due to arm length. Does your comm system mask that you're a woman at all, or do you just use a gruffy voice? I always wondered since I think most people imagine all storm troopers as men, do we let them continue believing this, or show them the truth that it's mixed ranks?
