  1. So, I'm sure this discussion has been brought up before, but as I'm new and there are a lot of new people, lets have a new discussion on this. So I see a lot of back and forth about screen accurate painting, modding, designing and while I see this as a great guide for authenticity, do we sometimes take it to far? If the Empire, Republic, Rebels, Jedi, Stormtroopers, Death Star, Darth Vader, ...... (you get my point) were real, I think things would be a bit different in the realm of some of the way armor and weapons were modded. Main point The finer details. If the prop makers were not rushed for time and harried by directors to make something futuristic and known that in 2012 you would see every detail of something they never thought people would see a clear view of do you think they really would have put some extra effort into their props? What looks good on screen those days and these days is not the same, since we have HD this and HD that, every little flaw can be seen. I think that if all of this was reality the blasters would be smooth, not rough on the details like the props and original sterlings were. Sure battle worn and faded/scuffed in place, but not with the super rough paint job that looks like it was rusting underneath and they just painted over it without taking the time to fix the problem. The Ab plate buttons would have actually been a part of the armor, not an additional plate that sat over top of the armor. Stormtroopers would have taken pride in their armor and weapons. They would have spent time cleaning it as much as possible, they would have polished their guns, they would have touched up problems as much as possible, especially those on staff duty like on the star destroyers, a super star destroyer, or the Death Star. Those on the ground like Sand Troopers and such in the heat of battle would have had roughed up armor, true, but that's unavoidable when you're in the line of duty. I'm sure when they got back to staff duty or back to civilization, they would clean it up as best as possible and if their armor was less then functional had pieces replaced. Even having a separate suit, one for battle/duty and one for home base. I'm sure there are a lot of ex/current military here and you can vouch for this, we have different uniforms for different things and if something gets too banged up, it gets replaced. For me, I like the screen accurate as a guide but making things as realistic to the vision of the Star Wars Universe is more important. I will be making my suit to this standard (while following the EI requirements of course!) vs making it 100% screen accurate. So how do you feel about screen accurate vs "reality" accurate?
  2. So I'm a super tall guy, 6'6" to be precise and I'm thinking a TKC would be right up my alley since I'm tall for a normal TK, I'd probably end up as a TKC were the empire real (and I was a badass), taller = more intimidating looking I think. I'm planning on getting my ANH suit made to Hero spec and I'm going to invest a considerable amount in the modifications of the helmet interior with electronics and so on so I am loathe to build my hero suit and then not be able to modify it to a TKC without a new helm and having to move everything into the new lid, especially since I'm getting a RT-Mod suit and the helm is sized to match the fact that the suit is bigger. So my question, can a hero lid be easily modified into a TKC lid? Looking at the CRL it's not an issue, but since I'm working on my first suit/build, I'm most likely wrong. Would it be better to start with a stunt lid?
  3. I agree, 6'1" is any normal kit, if you are 6'1" 220, you might want to look into the Rt kit as his are made for taller and wider (if necessary) troopers. I'm 6'6" 220, and based on my conversation with Rob of RT-Mod his suit will fit me perfectly, especially since a few of the pieces are longer. Rob game me these measurements from his suit: -Key measurements are as follows: (....shims would be required beyond these.) -Calves - 17" -Thighs - 26" -Waist - 40" -Forearm - 13.5" -Bicep - 16" -Helmet – 24†-Remaining components are not size critical
  4. So was my reply I think his Elvistrooper is sweet, hey, Elvis is everywhere and everything, why not a stormtrooper. There had to be some entertainment on the deathstar, I'm sure!
  5. You bring up a lot of points about variations, but in reality, it's much simpler. You offer a kit, people can take it or leave it. I would stay away from the padding, you're right a lot of people already have some sort of it in their kit. I think if I was you, I would only provide the bare minimum and any specific parts to make it a single unit. So the electronics, special earpads, caps and covers. If people want to add fans, they can buy another and wire it in easily with a splice.
  6. The first one is Styrene, generally it is not as strong as ABs and will snap, break, and crack much easier. I'd stay away from it personally. The second suit is made form Fiberglass. while fiberglass is stronger and can have a longer lifespan, it will be heavier and will never really match up to a good suit of ABS. If you MUST go ebay, make sure it's ABS. But like others say, stay away from ebay, 90% are recasts from manufacturers/fan made and will never match the quality of the originals. Cheaper, but if you are going to take the plunge, go with a reputed maker from this website. Also keep in mind, after you buy the suit, you're still looking at several hundred $$$ in accessories. Gun, holster, gloves, helmet padding, helmet fans, boots. It would be a shame to spend that, plus the $$$ on the suit, then the suit is crap and you just wasted $300-500 and have to buy another suit because the one you guy is thin, cracked somewhere, improperly pulled. The list goes on and on.
  7. Excellent! Now you need to assemble a kit, a how-to and price it. Then setup an on-going sale and BAM. I"m pretty sure you will have as many orders as you can handle. I know I will buy one if the price is within reach.
  8. I see a lot of roughage on the picture 5, behind the ejection port and on the shoulder brace, is that on purpose, and if so why?
  9. Has anyone bought a pair of these in US size 14? If so I'm looking for a measurement of the length. Some people say they run big and as I need a 15 normally.... maybe they will work. I have asked the same question to TKboots, just looking for a second opinion while I wait for their reply. Thanks!
  10. Only up to size 12... so sad, I need a size 15! Can't find them anywhere. If you made a size 15, I'd buy it right now.
  11. Nice! I found Robs original post but didn't see this update, thanks for the link! I'm prepping to buy Rob's full suit, just waiting on him to reply to my last set of questions, if he plans for august, I bet I can get this kit added in as long as he is still on track.
  12. Rob, any progress? I've been looking for some realism to put into the helmet I order from you, this might just be it!
  13. So a week or so ago I was scouting the web for different stuff and came across a set of gear for the inside of the helmet. This was basically the mouthpiece, tubing and so on, really nicely painted and make the helmet interior look like it was actually functional inside as well. Now I can't find it anymore, has anyone got information on these type of things?
  14. Oh man, a padawan in the belly of a trooper (or troopers wife as it were), what would the emperor say... Congrats on the upcoming package, and much love and luck for a happy healthy baby!
  15. Looks good, but I think the second button from the top could use some cleaning up on the edges, it seems a little wiggly there.
  16. Thanks Ben! It's funny when the line is "Aren't you a little big for a stormtrooper?" since in the movie it's the other way around! Hey, if Luke can be small, why can't we be big.. Maybe we make instead of Hero or Stunt, but Juggernaut style.
  17. Hope your pockets are deep... http://sterlingl2a3.com/
  18. Old topic, but I've put my 2c in. I'd even be willing to put down a pre-order payment to get them going and I told them so.
  19. From the looks and measurements of the RT-Mod suit, it should fix this problem with the length of the legs quite nicely, I think I have settled on RT, just a few details to look at. I thought about vader, but he is one thats kinda hard to pull off, imagine showing up at a show as Vader....and someone else does as well.... at least as a trooper, there can be multiples!
  20. Hey troopers, I'm looking for other seriously tall troopers like me who have put together or bought a suit and looking for their experiences and how they overcame this short world of ours. I've looked at RT-Mod and it seems like a suit that will fit great with the longer and wider pieces but am looking for some first hand accounts from people that are over 6'4" and have completed their armor so that it doesn't look like they are trying to fit into their kids armor.
  21. I did similar, I got 2 sets. One top.bottom normal weight for warm/normal days and one cold weather set for cold days. Since I'm sure I will use these for more then just trooping, it's a god investment.
  22. Now that I have found a site dedicated to trooping and actually nicely run like this place, I'm sure to be coming here for my parts. As it is right now, it's all about waiting for all the current parts to come in and sort the good from the bad.
  23. I bought the following: http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370626563001&ssPageName=ADME:B:BCA:US:3160 for $75 It looks fairly accurate and considering the hasbro kits and so on were 75+, I figured I couldn't go wrong with this. comments?
