Advanced Tactics Awards EIB - The March To 1000 Competition Winner Merchandise Public Relations Follow FISD It is sad news that we report the loss of another legion member, Cody Parker TK-80127 from the Mountain Garrison passed away on the 15th January 2019. Cody was a quiet trooper, and enjoyed trooping in the anonymity of the stormtrooper armor. Our condolences go out to his family and friends. "Buckets Off" Also reporting the very sad news of the loss of another legion member, Elizabeth Barraza TB-93474 lost her life tragically and unexpectedly on the 25th January 2019, leaving behind a loving husband and fellow 501st member, Sergio Barraza Our condolences go out to her family and friends. "Buckets Off" Greetings troopers, This is my last newsletter article of the term and it’s while one would think it would be a sad moment, I’m actually quite grateful. The great Roman general Scipio Africanus said (in effect), 90% of life is how you respond to it. The membership came together after a tough early part of the year and re-established this community as the most helpful and positive detachment in the Legion. The DO’s are doing a fantastic job, we have developed a solid social media presence, we’ve refreshed all of our branding and the newsletter keeps getting better every issue, the Pre-Approval program is doing well enough that other detachments are asking how to copy that and we’ve also managed to keep our CRLs up to date and prepping for another round of updates soon after elections. Even merchandise after a brief hiatus is fully back up and running with new items coming out all the time. And this is just the start! I’m especially grateful for the 2018 staff who bounced back with grit and can-do attitudes and helped everyone move on and get back on track. Their dedication and integrity to this detachment is unsurpassed and I will never forget their sacrifice, and we are poised now for an even better 2019. Many new members have also joined in and contributed to the tradition of openness and friendliness with helpful and constructive posts to questions. Every day I visit FISD I seen positive examples of people helping each other out. As always when not DL, I’ll still be on staff as FISD Founder to ensure continuity DL Emeritus and Keeper of the Archives, and will ever assist and help the detachment leadership team in anything they need. I’m looking forward to having more time to participate in general discussions help out more as an individual. So yes, when one door closes, another opens up as the saying goes. Thank you all once again, and I look forward to seeing everyone on the boards! With Unquestioned Loyalty Paul Hoeffer TK-8020 "Daetrin" Detachment Leader Greetings fellow members It's that time of year again where we all get to experience the noise that is, Legion elections! For the nominees of the leadership roles across the legion it is now question time (Q&A) so apologies that my input to this months news letter is so brief. I am currently engaged in answering all my questions diligently. Be rest assured we are still also working away in the background making sure FISD continues to tick along smoothly. You may have noticed the sales thread is now open for our Chicago Celebration patch, and I must say what a fantastic design it is, thank you to Jason / TK-16142 / “DeathTrap” for exposing us to your talent sir! Please jump on this quickly as we have a narrow window of opportunity to get these made and shipped out in time for April Celebration Chicago. The link and further details can be found further down in the "Available Merch" section. We also have a crazy new T-shirt design, which I love, Thank you to another talented member Nate "The Snake" TK-87666, not only is he the designer, but this is his line of work, so we have a very special price. The higher the order quantity the cheaper these babies get. Full details also found in the Available Merch section of the newsletter. Get on it!! Things going to plan, I feel we are in for a BIG year, drama free and fun filled, hope to see you all in the March Edition. With Unquestioned Loyalty Andrew Franke TK-11469 "Sly11" Executive Officer Greetings Troopers! We are fast approaching our 900th EIB award and it is great to see the standards continually improving. As well as the DO team and Attaché staff, there seems to be an ever-growing trend across the trooping community to aim for, and encourage progression to, the higher levels. Whilst, of course, this is not essential in any way, it is great to see so many amazing looking troopers on the frontline. As many know, it is easier to aim for this right from the start of a build, adding those finer details to the build list. Those subtle upgrades or specific build methods can really make a positive difference to the finished results. Although we are in the midst of election matters, the DO team will still be on hand to assist our troopers reach their targets. This section will allow future Troopers the opportunity to submit photos of their completed build to be reviewed by the Staff, Imperial Attaches and others in preparation for forwarding it to their GML for approval. Any and all advice/suggestions given will be specific, constructive, helpful and respectful. Please note that this program will NOT take the place of your local GML, as Detachments are not chartered for costume approval and can not override a GMLs decision, but is instead a peer review program designed to help you look your best and offer guidance and positive feedback. You will have the opportunity to ask questions about your completed armor, weapons (if applicable), accessories, etc. and get accurate information from the experts here at the FISD.. the definitive home of TKs worldwide. For more information on this program, please visit the link here With elections starting at the end of February it's time to check your detachment affiliation. OK so you look at your Legion profile and it shows that your detachment affiliation to FISD is pending, or otherwise incorrect. Why does this happen, and what is detachment affiliation anyway, and what will FISD do about it? The answer is that detachment affiliation is only ever used once a year, and for one purpose. The only time the Legion ever uses it for anything is to determine who can run for DL and who can vote in detachment elections. That's it. Otherwise it is pretty much ignored and not used for anything. The process of validating detachment membership is cumbersome and time consuming because people use different email information between their Legion and detachment logins, and that there is no way to bulk update the rosters. For a small detachment it is not a big deal to do this manually, but for a detachment the size of FISD with hundreds and soon thousands of 501st members, it's impossible. Fortunately we have technical folk both on FISD and in the Legion web team. Once a year they take a feed from FISD's database and do a bulk update on the Legion database. This occurs right before the election cycle starts and is done once per year. Pro tips: 1) Ensure the email address you use on the Legion & FISD boards are the exact same. 2) Ensure that your FISD profile has the correct TKID. 3) IMPORTANT! You MUST be in the right security group. It should be "501st Stormtrooper" in order for the automated system to pull you over. This thread is where you get your detachment access updated. 4) If after the bulk update is complete and your profile is still not updated, and you are 100% sure your info is in sync between the two boards, then ask for to the Legion web team. They should get feedback on why this isn't working. 5) If all else fails, ping the FISD staff. Which basically means that we'll simply tell the 501st web team to bulk approve everyone 6) If still you have no luck you can contact the legion web team directly via email: lwm@501st.com To check detachment affiliation go to the 501st Mb database here then click Your Profile Data. http://www.501st.com/include/images/legionelections.jpg Greetings Troopers! Legion elections are upon us. That's right. everyone's favorite time of year is back again for 2019. In February, every member of the 501st has the opportunity to exercise their Imperial democratic right to choose their leaders, at both the local and the global level. You will be able to vote for Legion Commanding Officer, Garrison Commanding Officer (or Outpost Leader), and - where you are registered and active in one or more Detachments, for the respective Detachment Leaders. If you are not signed up on the 501st forums you can not vote, you will need to sign up here To vote for Detachment Leader you must be affiliated to the forum of that detachment as well as visiting each of those forums at least once a year, more information can be found here All nominations and voting will occur in the 501st Legion Elections portal here Election Rules, Information and Links Rules and Reminders here Social Media and Harassment here Election Timeline here Pins, Voting Method and FAQ's here Procedural and Technical Queries here (legion forum) If you have any issues you can contact the legion election team via email: elections@501st.com Costume Approval Information - Legion Elections 2019 With the Legion election period about to start February 2nd, the membership database will be in lock down, during this time new member applications through your local garrison/outpost can not be finalized, you may however still submit them but they won't be processed until the end of this cycle. This does not affect the addition of any new costumes to an active members roster/profile, however it does affect any membership status changes ie: active / reserve / retired and any personal information updates. The period of membership database lockdown for 2019 starts Feb 1 and ends @ Feb 19 (GMT). The Fire Team program is completely optional, and is intended to help form a common identity and spirit of camaraderie among 501st Legion stormtroopers in the same geographic area/garrison that troop together. Fire Teams are not officially recognized by the 501st Legion nor the FISD, although they will be able to access a Fire Team sub-forum on the detachment website. Because Fire Teams are unofficial groups, they cannot have any 501st or FISD markings, including 501st Legion, 501st, Legion logos, Vader's Fist etc. on their branding or logos. However, Teams will be allowed to use any unique markings at informal events provided they follow these guidelines. Guidelines No 501st or FISD markings. Period. Any active Legion member with a valid stormtrooper costume in the specified geographic area can join. The Team can create a name, logo, backstory, etc. for itself (names usually contain Fire Team, though this isn't required). A list of each Team (with their specific "Teams Name") with a current list their members will be kept in the Fire Team sub-forum on the Detachment website. A Team member must troop at least twice per year to maintain status as a member. Two or more Team members must troop together once per year to keep the group active. Merchandising Again, no 501st or FISD markings. Merchandising will only be limited by the imagination of the Fire Team. Any merchandising should be submitted to the detachment, or through proper Legion channels. A master list of all Fire Team merchandise (with photos) will be posted in the Fire Team sub-forum. If any of these guidelines are violated, the group will be disbanded. Here is a link to the Fire Team area: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/130-fire-team-area/ 501st membership is needed to view this area. This is a great program that is strictly just for fun and it also allows fellow TK's get to know each other better. I would love to help any Garrison/area get a Fire Team started, just let me know what I can do to help. If you would like to register a Fire Team here is the link In other business, just a reminder, if you have an addition, removal or any other change in you Fire Team's status, send me a PM here and I'll get you all squared away. Congratulations on attending your first event James, we salute you and thank you for your service. A Story From a Friend Who Was Helped by the 501st A nice piece from Chris "Digz Graavz" an old friend from University saw my suit pics and shared a great story about the 501st from Toronto Fan Expo: The last time I went to Fan Expo, I got into the north building with my hubby to see who we could see, celebrity-wise. Unfortunately, I was on a mobility scooter and the traffic in that building was parking-lot-o-sardines. I got to a certain point and then just could not move. Because of the size of the scooter, it wasn't like I could squeeze through the crowd to get out. Skip forward to me on a mobility scooter in the middle of what seemed like a million people with no apparent way out, in the middle of a full-blown anxiety/panic attack. Tears. Hypervenitillation. Starting to shut down. It was horrid. A Stormtrooper from the 501st asked my hubby if I was okay. He explained my claustrophobia and panic disorder, and the fact that we couldn't even move to escape. The Stormtrooper said to hang on, that he'd be right back. Next thing I know, there's a commotion down the laneway and I'm hearing Stormtrooper voices hollering, "Make way! Move along! Empire business! Stand aside!" They cleared the pathway like the parting of the red bloody sea. Next thing I knew, my hubby and I were being motioned to move down the newly cleared pathway, with 'Troopers on either side of the walkway, holding the crowd back just enough so the scooter could pass. I thanked them as much as I could through my panic... my hubby did more thanking than I did because I was just trying to breathe. I found it truly touching that these folks stepped up and helped a person in distress, when they were just there to get their geek on. Butte County Firefighters Fund A thank you from Mike TB93016 "TB93016" for those who helped support his fundraising efforts: A few weeks ago - I did a run of personal patches to support the Butte County Firefighters Fund, a pot of money accessible by active duty firefighters during times of financial instability. Though this was unofficial, it absolutely could not have happened without the incredible support of the 501st Community and specific members SL 39549 in the Golden Gate Garrison and DD67760 of Florida Garrison (Everglades Outpost.) I am very proud to share the total raised as of Saturday, which has gone up since then. I'm humbled and honored to be able to spearhead and manage this run -I couldn't think of a better group to give it to in a time of need. Amazing community of fans in action here, we truly are - Bad Guys Doin' Really, really Good. Are you an approved TK that spends more time on the boards than the average Trooper? Do you enjoy using your knowledge to help out future and existing Troopers? If so, we would like to invite you to join the Imperial Attaché program! Members of the I.A. team are chosen to help out not only those here on the boards, but on a local level as well. Our aim is to have at least one in each and every Garrison, Squad and Outpost in the entire legion to be the eyes and ears of the FISD on a local level. A suggested level of EIB or above is preferred, as part of the duties include assisting those aiming for levels 2 and 3, but is not a requirement. Being active on the boards on a regular basis , welcoming new members and helping out where you can is, though. Some of the benefits: 1. Access to exclusive Attaché merch., including patches, etc. 2. Having the Imperial Attaché title under your name. 3. Being a part of the team that welcomes new and prospective members of the FISD. 4. Being the "go-to" person in your Garrison, Squad or Outpost. 5. Exclusive access to the Attaché HQ area, Imperial Propaganda Machine (newsletter) and merchandise discussions. We are currently in need of Attaches in many units, especially International Garrisons/Squads and Outposts. For more information on this program, please head here and if you should have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me at any time. (Pretzel) For a complete list of Imperial Attaches, go here NEW ATTACHES! Please join me in welcoming our newest Imperial Attaches! 1. You can find the thread here Attaché Ambassador Fellow Attaches. Happy February. The Attache Check-in Process for 2019 has begun a little earlier than last year! As your ambassador, one of my primary roles here is to make sure you are active. It is vital to the Attaches on this board to be the continued beacons and light to the new troopers joining the boards. You all have been those beacons, and I am damn proud of you all. If you have not checked in yet, the 2019 check-in thread can be found here: Thank You! With Unquestioned Loyalty Preston Christman TK-91488 "Pretzel" Attaché Ambassador So what exactly are EIB (Expert Infantry Badge) and Centurion levels? These programs were designed for those who choose to take their armor above and beyond the minimum requirements for basic 501st Legion approval. It gives you the chance to show a level of dedication and pride that takes your armor closer to being as "screen accurate" as possible, without as much extra work as you may realize! It also works on giving a better look to the Legion as an entity, and you can bet others will take notice of your hard work. The 501st has a list of detailed requirements for Basic approval, (level 1), EIB, (level 2) and Centurion, (level 3) which can be found here in the Costume Reference Library, (CRL) http://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:FISD_CRL Here are a few of the questions people may be wondering about: 1. "I am a (tall/short/heavy/thin) Trooper. Can I still apply? Of course! These programs are open and encouraged for all sizes of TKs, as long as the costume is correct and meets the guidelines. There are many specific build tutorials to every option, as well as a vast network of fellow TKs on the FISD to help you out and offer suggestions. 2. "How much extra will I have to pay for extra items"? The cost is actually quite reasonable, considering the few extra supplies you will need, which are listed in the requirements area. While it may run you a little more to implement these additions to your costume, they will go a long way to improving accuracy. All needed items can be found for sale on this thread: https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/16-ongoing-sales-project-orders/ While blasters are not required for basic approval, for EIB and Centurion levels they are, and may need upgrades (also listed in the CRL). 3. "I haven't even got my kit yet, is it too early to start planning"? Actually, aiming for Centurion is easiest to do right out of the box. 4. "I have my basic TK approval, can I still get in these programs"? In a word... absolutely! 5. "Are there any "perks" to this extra work and cost"? Besides knowing that you have a great looking set of armor, the 501st and FISD believes you should be deservedly recognized for your achievement(s), and allows you to wear the appropriate embroidered "rocker" badge of rank (available for a very minimum cost) on your shirt, helmet bag, etc., as well as rank decals to put on your armor bin. You will also have access to select "challenge coin" runs, receive (free) a cool certificate for your new rank, and have your title posted below your name in your FISD signature. Plus, once you reach these levels, you will have the extra knowledge to help out those who are looking to apply as well. 6. "Is it hard to apply, and what happens then"? After basic approval, all you do is make sure your armor is up to the standards set forth in the CRL, post a thread with the required photos in the appropriate area (see below), and wait a bit for the D.O.s (Deployment Officers) to address it. (Hint: Studying other people's threads before you submit can be a GREAT help). These are also listed on the main page of the FISD site. While waiting for approval, you will get some comments from others who will offer suggestions and constructive advice to help you out. If you should need any changes, the DOs will let you know, so you can adjust accordingly. Don't be dismayed if you do need changes... it's all for your benefit! After you are approved for EIB, then you can submit for Centurion. EIB https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/19-request-expert-infantryman-status/ Centurion https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/72-request-centurion-status/ Just remember that the FISD is here to help you every step of the way with whatever other questions you may have, but if you can't seem to find what you are looking for in your research, just ask away here on the forum. As many of you are aware, the FISD is currently in our March to 1000 program. Our goal is to reach the one thousand mark of Troopers who have earned their Expert Infantry Badge, and although we are well on our way to this goal and have just reached the 890 mark! The amount of approved submissions is increasing (over 80 this year alone) thanks to the dedication of those willing to go the "extra mile" toward screen accuracy. Here is a brief description of EIB as written by Paul (Daetrin), our founder: "Expert Infantryman status is not required for members of this detachment. It should be viewed as an optional set of requirements for those who wish to take the accuracy of their costumes to the next level, and be recognized accordingly. We're a costuming club - think of it as an award for costuming excellence and you get the picture. The requirements will not replace or supersede 501st standards, but only serve as an inspiration for the level of accuracy that can be achieved. The standards are meant to be high but achievable..." Besides the added pride you will have in your armor, those reaching this level can purchase exclusive EIB gear (patches, decals, coins etc.) and get a free certificate for your accomplishment. Unfortunately, if i am going to sell them I need to make some changes to the main mold. So most likely I wouldn't be able to offer them for a few months. "
  5. So to sum up Hero versions as both Luke and Han did not have the RS image holster but one of the Hero's did and the other we know had the com and grappling box and to include the PROMO version we have the following. 1 Hero with the tapered RS holster, sewn on opposite side and belt attachment in the middle with 2 rivets, wearing a TD with and no belt cover squares. 2 Hero Luke and 421 have the standard 4 rivet belt attachment E-11 style with com and grapping box 1 Hero the standard 4 rivet belt attachment E-11 style with TD 1 Hero PROMO tapered holster RS style with cut out/notch for E-11 or SE-14R (trooper could holster either style weapon), 4 rivets on belt, sewn on opposite side, wearing a TD. Would anyone have the following. Does anyone have an actual clear image of a standard E-11 holster as I've never found a really good one on it's own? Does anyone know the reason behind the swap to the SE-14R for the promo trooper, I'm thinking it was for appearance in the photo with the SE-14 being a lot shorter?
  6. You can use anything for inside strapping for IE and Centurion, snaps are only needed for external decoration on side of ab and butt plate Hope you throw those approval images on the pre approval forum, looking forward to seeing them.
  7. It can amaze people how much can be achieved at armor parties, many have built their own costumes and what seems hard for a newbie is just common practice for an experienced builder. Looking good, won't be long now
  8. Just like a first paint chip on a car. Armor does get pretty beat up over time, amazing how many scratches I have on my underneath's of the forearms, always seem to scuff them on things.. Anyway first drill hole, cut, sand, scratch we all do the same, worry we are going to make a mistake, then afterwards think "why was I even worried it was so easy". I'm sure you will do fine
  9. Great job on the helmet, any plans to offer these to others?
  10. Congratulations trooper, you could start a troop log in the Field Exercises section, if you also post separate troop reports they may be added to the monthly newsletter.
  11. You can also contact our DL Paul "Daetrin" he may be able to manually add you back to the roster.
  12. I generally make mine right over left and stop just before the end of the end cap ( some are seen with left over right but majority are right over left).
  13. I use an Aker amp available from eBay for @ $35 and an Icomm static burst unit available here I also have sounds effects in my blaster, one of these is the TK chatter, you could also use a cheap mp3 player and run an external cable to the Aker amp as they do have another line in.
  14. You will find quite a few build threads for AM armor with many happy owners
  15. Sounds feasible. I think at least we have established that one Hero trooper in ANH had the RS type holster and riveted in the centre of the belt, the Promo Hero had 4 rivets (one can't be seen) but the holster does appear to have the cut out/notch, with that I think there is a greater chance of that holster being a RS type with perhaps the cut out/notch made so it could have either a SE-14 R or an E-11 holstered, it also does have the stitching on the front the same as the RS holster and appears to be angled upwards from front to back same as the RS.
  16. Looks like there are 2 versions of the Promo Hero's with the different holsters/attachment, 2 rivets painted white and ANH style with 4 rivets.
  17. Looks like that confirms what I had thought, the RS style holster should be acceptable for Hero TK approval, with the middle belt attachment.

Dream Night 2019 LOCATION: Perth Zoo DATE: 8/Feb/2019 TIME: 4:45PM - 8:00PM LANDSCAPE/WEATHER: Outdoors, Hot TROOPERS: TK85421 - Q - gmrhodes13 TK59226 - Jerry - jezzapm IG21897 - Johnathon - ImperialKanos TI47140 - Jason - tantaris WRANGLERS: Marie Kate GA (galactic academy): N/A REPORT: Once arrived and kitted up we headed out to patrol the lines at the front of the zoo to keep the guests entertained by having photos, answering questions and one or two hugs. When the crowds had processed in we did what we do best with the stormtroopers going on patrol and the TIE reserve and Gunner keeping tabs on the numerically superior rebels. The weather was manageable in the shade and it felt rewarding as always bringing a smile to many of the children and their parents with some having several photos to be with everyone and several hugs, though R2D2 may have upstaged the rest of us. Soon enough it became dark and we de-kitted and departed from another successful zoo troop. Thank you to Perth Zoo for having us and our friends in The Rebel Legion for joining us. CHARITY: N/A INJURIES: None that I know of ARMOUR REPAIRS: None, though I lost the cover for my mic. HAPPY PEOPLE: Overall positive UNHAPPY PEOPLE: A few scared younglings MISSION STATUS: complete REPORT BY: Johnathon A few photos from the day:
  19. I did compare a lot of the Hero versions early on in my build, the Hero version on the right to me it appears to have the RS image holster, can notice the longer holster straps and a taper to the side and also stitching on opposite side to ANH holsters. Can't find a better side image to see if it actually had a cut out for an E-11, personally I don't think it would. It also appears to be attached higher on the belt in the centre like the RS image At first I thought this was still the same Hero but it appears he has a normal short strapped ANH holster BUT then I realised he had a higher brow and his mic tip is not white like the other. The promo Hero holster had straps behind the belt and the 4 rivets, although carrying an SE-14R the holster still has a cut out like an E-11 holster. But it appears to be slightly different to a normal ANH version as it is stitched on the opposite side? Definitely has the cut out/notched section. Holstered SE-14R Promo image below has the same ANH E-11 styled as it has the cut out/notch, can see on the front the flap of the notch and also the opposite side sewn. My findings there appears to be 3 Hero version holsters: 1 RS image used on the Hero (not seen anything even slightly looking like this on any other Stormtrooper) and no E-11 cut out/notch. 2 ANH straps behind 4 rivet holster standard Hero version 3 PROMO: straps behind 4 rivets BUT stitched on opposite side and also has the E-11 cut out/notch. I believe this is a standard style ANH Hero version only oppositely stitched, not matching SE-14R (although it will fit in the holster).
