I remember having to trim more off of one side than the other for the same reason. You want the middle box centered most of all. -
Help with assembling ATA Helmet
darksideemt replied to roony2311's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
Gazmosis was right the ears are too high and that is what is causing your problem. If you do what he says and use the other ears you can fix the problem. I had to use one of my extra ears due to too much trimming of the ears and they are still not totally flush against the lid but look fine. I honestly thought it was just an extra set of ears incase you mess up, I didn't know they were different and I'm not sure what combo I have on now. Gonna have to look. -
I put in for Detachment Affiliation on the Legion boards several days ago and it still says pending. Can this get fixed before voting please?

Lego Star Wars costumes

Amazing! Excellent detail. You should do the complete bodies those would be a big hit at a Con. -
Looks like a TK with a E3 bucket or at least an E3 visor. Good job on the pics!

How should I trim these ESB handguards
darksideemt replied to NastyNoah's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
No expert here but where you have the tape looks like a good trim point. I would angle it some towards the wrist so you don't take off quite as much as the front. Just a little angle. After that I don't think you will need to flatten them. Those really are big -
Painting Rank on Ear Piece
darksideemt replied to John G.'s topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
Here is my $.02, I think they should read from front to back no matter which side you are looking at. I have also seen some people use blue stripes instead of black. If this is a screen accurate color could black be enlisted and blue be officer. This would allow for easier distinction so at least if you can't remember the order you know enlisted vs officer. The biggest issue I see is how they are determined. Agree with not making it what it says above your pic on here. I think it should some how be related to how involved you are both in trooping and on FISD. I know I'm relatively new but I have already trooped more than most do in a year, this doesn't make me an expert but I think that should count towards the ranks. I also agree this is just for fun and jest. -

I've seen the plain Isotoners and they look good for the girls to use. -
[ATA] ESB build in progress
darksideemt replied to TD-4395's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
It depends on your size. Ideally you should leave about 7.5mm on each edge so when put together the 15mm cover strip fits. If you have bigger arms then you will have to leave a little more and it will be a little wider than the cover strip. same with forearms -
Nihilius Amateur ATA Build (ANH Stunt)[*ATA]
darksideemt replied to Nihilius's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Oh how I remember that day when the big brown box showed up, then the hard work begins. Unless you have a shunken head, there is no way that padding will work. You will be able to use a few pieces but not the whole thing. There isn't as much room in there as you think. Good luck with your build and remember to always ask before you do something. -

Did you fix the knee plate/thigh issue? If the plate is getting caught under the thigh, put some padding in the back of the thigh behind your knee. This will keep the front of your thigh tighter against your leg so it doesn't go under there. Looking good! -

I'd get rid of a little more of that return edge on the upper part of the forearms, especially the right one -
neckseal by end of jan.?
darksideemt replied to TD-4395's topic in Boots, Soft Parts, and other Accessories
contact Darman on and see when he could have one for you. his are the best in my opinion -
Def butt join with cover strips. Shins should be only clam shell pieces.

You will find leaving a return edge will cause armor bites. I left them on mine, except where you aren't suppose to, and now I'm getting rid of it in some places due to the bite.

New Trooper under construction
darksideemt replied to Sparrow's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Mine is kinda like Aloha's. I have a strap snapped from the center of my chest plate to my ab plate and there is 2 straps from my back to my kidney in the middle. This both holds them against each other and stops unwanted separation. I too don't like seeing a strap on the sides from chest to back under the arms, but that is personal preference. -
Material for snap plates question.....
darksideemt replied to Solcar23's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
the thickest one they had was big and cost like $2. it was long enough for all the strips. just remember to rough the armor and the sign up good with some 60 grit paper.
