  1. Yep... John's the guy to contact!
  2. I'm a Krylon Gloss White man myself. Though, if you follow Mike's advice about the Rust-Oleum I'm sure it would do better than what it did for me... (I did NOT follow / see that advice before I had tried it.) Krylon works great though... is easy to use and very forgiving.
  3. Yep... will be watching man, good luck!
  4. This is exactly what I hope to do some day in a few months! Get a TE, and go dirty! Hopefully I'll still be able to get a set... If anyone has an inside track & prices etc, PM me now if you want... I'd love to know. Thanks!
  5. I've already requested it.
  6. So what's everyone's thoughts on the Windlass TK armor that's going to be coming out this next year? What I've heard... 1) It's going to be fully sculpted armor 2) It's going to be a "mesh" between screen accurate and idealized. (No gaffers tape in other words.) 3) It's going to come with boots, underarmor, gloves, helmet, the whole thing. 4) It's also going to have a custom bin, plus "shoulder tote" for your bucket. 5) It's going to be priced between $1,500 to $1,800 (maybe more) 6) It's going to be made of "FlexArmor"... some new concoction they've developed that will allow the armor to be rigid yet "flex" with you for a more comfortable fit. So, what have others heard? Are you excited, scared, worried, happy, doppy, sneezy, bashful, doc? Personally I'm kind of excited about the possibility of a really good set of authorized armor. I do not think it will cause there to be a huge influx in the 501st membership. (If the amount of $$ we spend now keeps people out then that price surely will.) I also think the 501st should allow people in that get it — IF it is good obviously. I know I'm proud of my armor, and proud that I put it together. I'm especially proud of my modded MR CE... but, I have to admit if there was a licensed set of really good armor out there I would be very tempted to buy it. A big part of me is hoping its crappy. But, a big part of me is excited to see how good it is. I mean I hope that no matter what it only makes the 501st better and better and better!
  7. Fantabulous job man! That looks like the real deal 100%. (My opinion... don't do the chips...)
  8. I totally agree, and am one of those "idealized" version people — as you probably already know because of this. But this is one amazing helmet!! I'm interested to see 1) how much it's going to sell for, 2) how amazingly pleased everyone is when they start getting theirs, and 3) how long it takes before I end up with one.
  9. Shaving cream... wipe on, wipe off. (it also helps with karate... oh, no... never mind, that's wax on... wax off...)
  10. Hey man, exciting stuff. I'll be watching this thread! I'd say prime. Even if you have to sand more because of the primer it's worth it to have that "base". You can also use it as an "alert" to stop sanding then... reach the primer color, stop sanding. I think wet sanding was an okay step in my case, but honestly I only REALLY did it once. (Only really primed once too... 2 coats, but one "session.") I'm not sure you have to do the wet sanding (from my experience), but... I would suggest go ahead and do it (at least once). I mean stick with the "do-it-all-like-you-want-and-will-be-happy-with" rule.
  11. After many hours of doing and redoing this here's my suggestion... Let it dry... like 24 hours at minimum dry. Then sand it off again so it's smooth. Then don't prime it again, just paint it. Use Krylon Gloss White (if you can get it). It dries fast, has a great gloss, and doesn't need priming (after what you already have on there.) Seems like priming / primer was what goofed mine up at first too. One more tip... don't spray outside if there is ANY wind!!! Wind will blow the paint and make it not a good thing.
  12. I told Celeste (my wife) how funny it is how I "FEEL" different when I think about ESB troopers... or ANH troopers... ESB = Silent guards... Cloud City... Bespin... sterile... well lit... etc... ANH = Soldiers... Death Star... gray hallways and clean, but not "sterile". Those things are all part of the feelings I get when I think of one or the other... but mostly they're inexpressible things tied to "that time" in my childhood, the smell of the new action figures, the language we had to talk about Star Wars at school, and a whole slew of other things. Interesting stuff... how permeated SW mythology is when you start to think about it.
  13. Actually my grandmother had an ROTJ, but I get your point. -----s don't fit the MR lid, — yet anyway — so I'm sticking with ANH. I had pretty much decided it by this morning anyway though.
  14. Haha... well, I could've guessed YOU'D have said that. ----- If I get those I probably will have to FX it this Saturday... but it might be worth it if I switch it over. A new question now... if I do it would I HAVE to use the "correct" tube stripes? I don't like the white in between... I'm still researching though, so I may be convinced yet.
  15. So... talk to me about ANH buckets vs. ESB buckets. Why should I have one over the other? Here's my dilemma — as I'm about to repaint ----- I think to myself, "Why not do it ESB this time?" My thoughts are as follows... 1) I like the ANH bucket look better... gray frown etc. 2) I like ESB as a movie better! It's really the film that made me start loving TKs... they seem more "put together" in that film or something. More used... etc. I know I'd have to flip my holster, and I'd have to get new hand plates... and remove the "counter" on my blaster (correct?)... but whatever "else" I would have to do to make it "correct" right now I'm just wondering about painting the helmet. ---------- all believe the gray on the traps is the same... ... or do you think it's more blue... as I've always thought. What about -----in general... would it make a good ESB bucket? Or is it just better suited for ANH? So those are some thoughts. I'm painting tomorrow... Friday the 5th of September... so as many opinions as quickly as possible would be great! Thanks!
  16. On the official Star Wars Blog Flickr account.
  17. Is this one of the Disney buckets they made for their costumed street actors?
  18. Wow... I feel like I've been gone a month over night! You mean the brow trim won't fit because it won't fit "up in behind" the brow? That's not bad... that's CORRECT! Look at the way I trimmed the back off my trim for example. The edge just sits on the bottom of the brow, it doesn't go up and behind anymore. Is this what happened?
  19. A hole in the original ears? That's fine! Get some replacements and do what I did! Or, the bondo / putty approach is fine too. Once it's painted you won't be able to tell.
  20. Looks fantastic man! Seems like that's the thing to do... repaint after it's been painted. I am just finishing up my repaint in fact.
  21. Sort of like Stephen King's character from "Creepshow".
  22. Of course I just modded mine... so it's like totally screwed together and glued and puttied and painted... but it seems a heck-of-a-lot more sturdy than my FX ever did.
  23. My response is (obviously) HELL YEAH it's worth it!! I've put a total of $130 into mine, and I just love, love, love it. Plus, you have the flexibility to go either more screen accurate, like Luis did, or more "idealized" like I did. Of course, if you want "wonky" and accurate, I would say get a TE2... those are hot like sugar.
