  1. Sticky velcro, scissors, glue, white duck tape and white shoe polish.
  2. Neiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiin! That's horrible!
  3. Great photos. You look tiny standing next to Vader and the trooper.
  4. Congratulations. I did post on the FISD facebok page, but I thought I'd add something here too.
  5. Go for ATA as it'll require less trimming and less wasted plastic. Tools needed. Curved scissors, steel ruler, clamps and sandpaper. You'll also need white industrial strenght velcro, white elastic and black elastic. 1.5" and 2". Get some 2 part super glue and E-6000 glue. You'll also need to get some humbrol paint for the buttons on the ab plate. Oh you'll also need about 30 snaps (poppers). I don't think the ATA kit comes with a canvas belt so you'll need one of those, a neck seal, boots and a bodysuit. You may also have to get some helmet decal stickers. Check with the guys first. Honestly the rubies suit looks like crap in person. It only looks 'decent' on video because the company makes it look decent. Just look at the photos around here of people in their armour. NONE of them wear a rubies. You don't have to join the 501st if you don't want to. IF you bought a rubies you wouldn't get in anyways. The rubies helmet is ugly as sin. The lenses make you look like some weird beetle.
  6. Halfords paint is great. Plastikote is crap. I learned that lesson when I painted my biker scout helmet. The best colour to get is 'appliance white'.
  7. Rubies = POS. You might as well throw £600 in the bin. My set of armour cost me £500 and I think it looks pretty nice but you can get even nicer looking ones for less than what I paid. Also remember that NO suit will fit you out of the box. Even if you bought one 2nd hand from someone. Unless they were the exact same size, weight and - well basicaly everything, it'd not fit you and you'd need to trim it. Oh and if you do look for a set of armour 2nd hand, make sure that you don't buy it from someone who's way smaller than you. No good buying armour from a fella who's 5'7" and 10 stone if you're 6 foot tall and 13. Take a look at the 'getting started' thread. I'm sure you'll find other makers for less than £600. Andrew ainsworth does make a nice set of armour and his helmets are great, but for a grand you can get so much better for far less.
  8. Really nice pic. I've trooped twice and both times had different issues with my armour. I'm sure they arn't really complex fixes. At least you know what the issues are and how to fix them.
  9. Great pics buddy. Looks like a fun time. Nice armour too.
  10. Did a promo troop for the release of episode 1. Most of the day involved posing for many, many pictures. We also called in on Radio Cardiff. Here is a short video of us when we called in on media wales where they produce 2 newspapers. I'm the one with the shoulder bell that decided at that time to fall out of position http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/need-to-read/2012/02/10/star-wars-darth-maul-and-two-stormtroopers-drop-in-to-media-wales-91466-30306827/
  11. Can you post a picture? There might be a way to take it off the ABS belt and then attach it to a canvas one.
  12. Yup Biceps first. Snaps are better to use than velco - except where you HAVE to use velcro of course. Good luck with your armour build.
  13. That's such great work. One of the reasons I joined the 501st was to do something to bring such great joy to somebody else.
  14. If your mate wanted to wear a mask, you could get him to dress as a skiff guard from Return of the Jedi.
  15. Looks like ROTJ armour. Probably derived from the tour suits. I'm not a fan of the armour or the slightly odd looking lid.
  16. Why is there no 'like' button! Looks awesome. It's such a great looking set of armour.
  17. I'll have to look through my armour pics and see what needs doing to get to EIB level. I don't think there's much that needs doing. Maybe some blaster mods and the cod snaps. I have rivets on my side closure so I think that would need to be changed, but they hold my snaps on. Hmm. I'l have to go over the CLR list and see.
  18. Be advised that some (most?) stormtroopers can't sit down. So going to the cinema might be a problem, unless you want to stand for 2+ hours. Also, as it's in 3D. You'd not be able to see the screen unless you take off your lid. Personaly, I'd rather stand outside in the rain than sit down and watch the phantom menace.
  19. I was gonna ask this question a while back. I've only done 1 troop so far and I didn't get to hand out any. I've got 2500 minus what I've traded here and given to friends and family. I think the smaller troops might be harder to hand them out, but the big ones would be great.
  20. I agree with what Travis said. Loks like you haven't taken quite enough of the back. You'll see it curves out after the 'pipe' goes in. Post a bigger pic and maybe we can put some visual aid to help you.
  21. I'm sure some people used magnets. Not for the ones containing your bank cards as it'll wipe them. I think some people also put a hinge on the bottom and a catch at the top. Personaly I keep my keys, cards etc in a neck wallet.
  22. TM armour is super sexy - even more sexy than Jessica Alba in some lingerie carrying a bacon sandwich. My armour is a mystery, but if I was ever to upgrade and had the cash, I'd go for a TM. But that's not to say that other armour makers don't make great sets of armour, because they do.
