  1. Troop 45 Vaughan , Ontario February 11, 2024 Vaughan Winterfest 2024 This was a community activity day. There were indoor and outdoor activities, live music, and much more. They called for an attendance around 10,000. We took photos for hours on end. We would walk a bit and as soon as we stopped, a line formed. Lots of fist bumps, high fives and smiles all around. We were provided vouchers for lunch, so rather than undress, eat and then kit up again, I stayed in costume. Funny thing was that people still stopped me to get photos with me carrying my lunch. Not sure that a brisket sandwich and fries is canon.

Need Help Ask the Deployment Officers Advance to 1500 Advanced Tactics Awards Newsletter Editor Staff List 2024 Follow FISD From our legion founder, Albin Johnson (TK-210) It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of the passing of TK/TD124, the legendary George "Old Sarge Oberon" of Garrison Carida. The oldest active Stormtrooper in the Legion, Sarge was there at the very beginning of Vader's Fist. His list of troops reads like a history book of the club. For decades he could be found at all the biggest Legion events, always in armor and always working the booth or a droid hunt or just on patrol. But always with a grin and a kind word for everyone. The 501st did not have a flashy start. It took volunteers doing hard work at events that no one had heard of. But Sarge was there, laying the very foundation blocks of the Empire. He was even at one of the earliest commanders' meetings. His advice was practical, even-handed. He wasn't there to impress. He was always there to serve. Most of all, he was a good friend. Whenever we met in our years of Star Wars adventures, he'd pat me on the back and tell me what a great time he was having. It is no exaggeration to say he was the epitome of the Legion spirit. I wish all the new kids in the Legion could know what a goat really is - Oberon was it. He was legend. I'm honored to have known him. Rest well, Sarge. Your patrol is done. May we always live up to your example. To learn more about the man and his exploits, check out this lovely page made in his honor: https://www.legionxxiv.org/trooper124/ Condolences to his family, friends and garrison "Buckets Off" Carl Weathers, forever a member of the Lucasfilm family, past away on 1st February 2024, he was 76. With the launch of The Mandalorian on Disney+, Weathers joined the galaxy far, far away as Greef Karga — an expeditor for the Bounty Hunter Guild who rises to become Magistrate of Nevarro, and ally to the Mandalorian and Grogu. He would receive an Emmy Award nomination for his efforts. In addition, Weathers stepped into the director’s chair for the critically-acclaimed episodes “Chapter 12: The Siege” and “Chapter 20: The Foundling." We’ll miss you, Carl. Be at peace. Condolences to his family, friends and the whole Star Wars community "Buckets Off" Greetings fellow members Elections are in full swing and once again FISD has come through them with no opposition although this time with a difference. It has been an absolute pleasure and a total honour to have been the commanding officer of this fine detachment for the last 4 years. In that time we brought the FISD forums into the new age with a huge amount of effort from all the staff. We worked diligently to make sure this was a friendly detachment for everyone, not just those inspired to join the 501st. That is important because ultimately, we want everyone to make their Stormtrooper dreams become a reality. We brought new sections, new colours and new reasons to want to be a member here with working to enlist costumes that were not only exciting but not all hard armour for FISD. We brought us closer to other detachments and now our relationship with them is better than its ever been. You can see our list of the work we achieved in my post here . In closing out on this chapter for my tenure as Detachment leader of FISD, I would like to wholeheartedly thank all the members that make this place as good as it can be every day. To the staff who believed in my visions, to not only support them but exceed all expectations, and embody our unofficial motto of Troopers helping troopers in everything they do. We are in very good hands with our new leader Joseph, who not only understands the importance of this magnificent collection of research and incredible encyclopaedia of Storm trooper knowledge, but also lives the motto and understands how important you all are at keeping this forum alive and well. I will still be around, although taking a background role in maintaining the forums and assisting Joseph in creating whatever he requires to continue revitalising our forums and keeping us relevant for new comers and old. Once again, thank you for your support over these years, thank you for supporting the team and also in continuing that supporting Joseph and the new additions to the FISD staff. On behalf of staff, members and the whole community we give thanks to you for steering the ship for 4 long years, for all your hard work, your confidence, support and guidance, your passion is unquestionable and your dedication is beyond reproach. Very few can even imagine the time and effort you have put in to the role and the rest you are now facing is well deserved. Undoubtedly you have made a big impact on a lot of our community, you leave a great legacy and you will always be remembered and admired. From your detachment, we salute you If you would to read more of what work was undertaken and completed over those 4 years head to this thread Greetings Fellow Troopers First off, let me thank you for being so supportive of me and the merchandise runs these past 2 years. I hope that I have provided quality products and service to all. With @justjoseph63 winning the election for DL here at FISD I'm very happy to announce that I will be staying on for another term as FISD's MBO. Recently Legion had a vote and passed some very comprehensive and streamlined rule changes on Merchandise and Branding (you can read about them here) which will change the way we do some of our standard merch. I am in talks with our new leader about merch for this term, and hopefully will have a plan that we can share to everyone before the March Newsletter. Let me tell you, I'm excited about some of the ideas that he has presented to me and I'm looking forward to sharing them with the troopers! Old Business The first annual Detachment Merchandise & Branding Officer End of year merch sale was a hit. Unfortunately, I didn't have enough items to cover everyone that wanted something. I hope to do this again next year and have already ordered a few extra items. You can read updates here. 1st Annual DMBO Merch Sale No new news on the #SecretMerch Item. The factory in China has been closed for the observation of Chinese New Year. Pfab tells me that he expects to have an update in the next week. but still believes that coins will be shipped early March. So We'll keep and eye on that. Secret Merch Item The shield patch run is complete and all patches have been mailed. Thank you to everyone for your understanding with some of the delay in shipping. I can't wait to see some folks post up their patch jackets, shirts, and other uses for their patches. Wear them with pride my fellow troopers. Here is where my first small patch went. 2023 Patch Run The Rocker run is closed. @MaskedVengeance has started sending payment request for these orders and will be placing the order soon, so hopefully they will be in your hands in the next 6 - 8 weeks. I'm very jealous of those that can wear these. I'm working on building my new AM kit to EI standard so that I can help "Advance to 1500". Rocker patches. New Business We were able to get two more items approved for the end of term. The first being the reissuing of the 501st Legion Stormtrooper banner patch. We reissued it in the standard red and black Legion color scheme that it was original issued in on it's first run and opened it to the legion. In addition, we added a version that is more closely aligned to our Detachment color palette, it is blue and white and exclusively for FISD members. This run is open until 24 FEB 2024 so please be sure to get your orders in. Stormtrooper Banner Patch Please remember to take time to check out your local, Legion and detachment elections. Participation in these helps guide the direction of these units. If you have any thoughts, suggestions, comments or concerns about FISD Merch or Branding, my "virtual" door is always open. 3. Hello Everyone, I have been looking to start my TK Build for quite some time. Slowly but surely, I have been printing out parts for a ROTK. I have recently moved to Virginia, and am extremely new to the forums, and a wee bit nervous after navigating my way around the "Getting Started" forums. Nevertheless, I am excited to get through my very first build and would be greatly appreciative of any constructive criticism, or helpful pointers for my build! Some Administrative Information: I am printing off of a Creality CR-10 V2, With a build volume of 300 x 300 x 400 mm. Majority of the project will be done with Zyltech PLA. 1.75mm diameter To scale the armor to myself, I am using "Armorsmith Designer" to the best of my ability. The files I am using are from Pewpewcrafts.com (any modifications to the actual armor I need to do will be post printing as I am not a blender wiz) Above is the preview of the 3D model from pewpewcrafts website. First piece I decided to print was the Helmet. for 2 reasons 1: The Helmet is going to need the most attention out of all pieces of the armor (in my opinion). As it has multiple greebles I needed to print separate to the bucket, it has the most "complex" paint job in comparison to the rest of the suit. 2: Its the coolest part! Therefore, I need to do it first, right? This being said, The Helmet after being scaled in Armorsmith Designed is ever so slightly too large for my printer. To work around this, I cut the file into 3 seperate parts. -The face, cut just behind the ear. -The back of the Helmet, which is the ear and behind. -The top of the helmet which I cut just under the brim of the "eyebrow".

  6. Hovi Mic Tips have been attached with E600. The Frown still needs to be painted Gray. and I have a few parts I need to address on the helmet. Some of the helmet has some black speckles on it from when I taped off and sprayed the brow black. There was slight leaking and I plan to fix this by blocking the black off with painters' tape and spraying the helmet with white once more. I also have a few parts that I need to re-sand to make it smoother as in the right lighting, I can still see some layer lines. Prior to this, I need to add some Bondo to fill in the small gaps where I glued together the 3 sections of the helmet from printing. Pictured Below: As per the last picture, the CRL States: "Any gap between the ears and the helmet will only appear to be a seam, not any bigger." I am unsure if the current gap is too large, or if I will need to fill in the gap. and if so, must I fill this gap completely? Separate from the Helmet, I have printed the Butt-Plate, Cod Piece, Front and Back Belt, Thermal Detonator and the "O II" Details for the back plate. I mentioned earlier that I had a few rolls of small amounts of filament left over from larger prints, and I used those rolls for these pieces. A real Filament killer is how much support these parts need. To save filament I recommend either cutting your print to fit to your build plate in several pieces or orient your prints in a few directions to see what costs the least amount of filament. With that being said, it would also help you with cleaning your prints off afterwards if you make sure that any of the detailed parts do not have a lot of support around it. You can see my mistake in the 3rd picture below. First, I will say that I moved across the United States, and a few of my printed parts were damaged in the move. It's nothing that some superglue, Bondo, and paint can't fix though! I also ran into a slight issue with my printer once I unboxed it. I was in a new climate, and I do not have a heat shield to help retain the printer's temperature, so it loses a lot of heat in radiation. Secondly, as I was excited to start up my printer and get going on my TK, I did not ensure that the printer bed was leveled still! I have a few small scratches on my printed, but nothing that requires a new bed. Previously, I had been printing with just the bed and nothing on it to help with adhesion other than heat. Over time, my bed became dirty, and it needed cleaning. MAKE SURE YOUR PRINTBED IS CLEAN! I have sense put blue painters' tape on my printed to help with adhesion. I started up the 1st piece of the chest, and as it reached 90% completion, the PLA unstuck from the bed, and I had a big spaghetti mess of plastic when I checked after I ate my dinner. I restarted the print after leveling the bed. and again, around 90% it failed. But this time, I had a layer shift. You can see the layer shift at the very top of the chest piece. What happened was the adhesion to the build plate was not strong enough, and when the extruder moved back and forth, it pushed the print slightly to its side. From here, I used Elmers stick glue in combination with the blue painter's tape. I put a small bit under the tape, and an even layer on top of the tape to give the 1st layer something to really grab onto and stay. After this, the prints were coming out fine. In the last 2 weeks, I have printed the Main Chest, and Back plates. With support on still With Supports removed

  12. Small amount of movement, only a test but promising. I thought that having a movable hinge on the front grip could result in a lot of stress on the threads that may eventually just strip out of the blaster. To fix this I have added some heat set inserts. This gives me some nice metal threads that can't wear out. Similar to how I have added space for nylocs in the body for the "holster" bolts. In hindsight I wish I had used inserts here as well. If I have to reprint I probably will do. I also added them to the magazine mount. I have a power switch mounted here so ease of access is important, and so is a secure fix. These are easy to add. I just need a hole the right size added the the 3D file, I have values setup for this now. Once printed I simply drop in an insert which has a "nose" to locate it, and then use a special tip on a soldering iron set to 210C to slowly push them home. Dead simple. Like all projects as I near completion on them I look back and think of all the things I would do differently if I started over and adding these more widely would be one such change. I have some electronics parts on order, so hopefully my next update will be on that front. I also have some printer updates happening which I am hoping will release the flow on parts I need to complete the build. Then it's "just" paint

  13. And there is the 1st chunk of the Helmet finishing up on the print bed. I had a partially used roll of PLA Filament from a previous print and it ran out with the last 3% to go, so I had to pause the print and load in a brand-new roll. After this, I made sure to keep track of how much each print would require prior to starting it up.

With the help of Matthew Wall, we now have ears that have the full circle ear cap and a slope up to the ear greeblie without such a large plateau and more rounded corners. Big thanks to Matthew Wall for his help on the ear mods!! Also there's an exciting possibility coming down the line. I'll update as things come together

  18. Troop 43 and 44 Kitchener , Ontario January 20 and 21, 2024 Tricon 2024 This troop was a local “mini con” that was put on at a children’s museum to help revitalize the downtown core. It is a neat venue as the art installations are all in place throughout the 5 story building where the con takes place. We didn’t have a booth, so we would patrol around and interact with guests. This was extra special as it was my son’s first troop with his new biker scout costume. I didn’t get a photo with my son wearing my TK but did with my death trooper. Took advantage of some of the art installations for photo ops. This room has TK written all over it. Oh man! Maybe those were the droids I was looking for! Some pics with other 501st members: Finally, I couldn’t resist a photo with this little guy.
