Backwards progress update! I essentially scrapped the files I previously showed… and started over. ...then I did that two more times. However, after several failed attempts (and an unhealthy amount of staring at reference photos on airplanes), I think I’ve finally landed somewhere presentable. I also learned what a “matcap” was in Blender, which ended up being instrumental in helping me spot some pretty nasty high and low points throughout the surfaces. Once I finally understood what I was looking at, I was able to correct a lot of those inconsistencies—and honestly, I think the results are starting to speak for themselves. Again, I’m by no means a professional modeler here. I’m just someone who got frustrated after spending a good chunk of money on files that still didn’t quite capture the look of the screen-used armor. I’m not claiming these are 100% accurate… but visually, I do think I’m making solid progress. The chestplate: The backplate: I’d still argue neither of these are fully “done” yet, and there are absolutely areas I could still refine depending on how many hours I want to dedicate. But provided I can get clean prints and finish them properly with paint and post-processing, I’m hopeful these should at least get me through basic approval. That said, if anything looks off—or if I’m missing details—please don’t hesitate to call it out. I’m hoping to start test printing these at full scale relatively soon… assuming I can first figure out what keeps clogging my printer nozzles.2 points

You may find your local garrison has build days, members come together to work on their own and others armor. You could also become an attaché (once approved) info is in a 501st only area.1 point

Love seeing the progress, but just out of curiosity what are your plans going to be once you finish modeling the armor? Are you going to sell it, keep, it, give it out to the community? I'm not judging your answer or anything I'm just curious because I'm interested in following your journey and perhaps using these files if I ever have to redo my armor (again...).1 point

We are up to 40 members that have donated. We have raised $498.94 of the $928.12 needed. So we have $429.18 left to go. If you haven't donated yet, please consider doing so. And please make a note in the PayPal notes that it is for the forum. I'm receiving payments for coin shipping and patch orders as well, so having a note telling me what the money is for saves me some headaches. Thank you, James1 point

Hi kaleb, As you are quickly realising, this hobby requires a lot of research. Luky for all new members, this is now a lot easier then when I and many much older members started. Now days, you only need ask a question and we will point you in the right direction. This resource (FISD) is massive and can be very overwhelming, but rest assured, there is no such thing as a stupid question, so keep asking for what you dont understand, keep looking at the threads you are directed to and the advice given. This is a long journey we have all taken, and you won't regret it. lots of fun, a great community, and we do a lot of good out there in the wide world. Welcome to FISD and I hope you love this new adventure as much as we all did when we started down this path.1 point

Morning Kaleb, welcome to the forums!.. When you have all your costume together with all parts you take the photos. First step is to work out where you are located and reach out to the local garrison, they will then have an email address these photos need to go to; generally [email protected] or similar. Once you have that address you will need to get dressed in your costume and take the necessary photos and send these to the Garrison Membership Liaison who will judge your costume against the CRL and provide any feedback needed. Assuming you are building a Stromtrooper (TK) you will find a vendor list on these forums of components that in the past have been approved, note that nothing is off the shelf approved; the costume needs to fit you properly so you may find details need adjusting. Best bet is to find your local garrison, join their forums and introduce yourself, they will be able to assist you on the path....1 point

Those are approvable, particularly for Rogue One/Anthology TKs and their related costumes (Night Troopers, Artillery Troopers and the new Incinerator Troopers). But if you're making an Original Trilogy TK (ANH, ESB, RoTJ) or their related costumes (found here), there are less expensive options. Most of us use nomex flight gloves, which tend to cost half the price of the Keep Trooping gloves.1 point

Hang in there, we have all been there at some point, it’s sometimes hard to hear that your hard passionate work isn’t up to a standard, the S trim is an easy fix just remove the trim and locate the join under the chin, baggie under suit see if you can get a tighter compression shirt, with the armour strapping sometimes it might be worth looking at another method especially if this one isn’t working, some methods don’t work on certain body types, you might need to strip the current strapping and start fresh, simple is key in this situation, I personally use the original method and it’s lasted since 2018 with the elastic being replaced several times, and as the others have said photos for approval are 100% an audition for approval, you might look at getting another member to help you suit up and take the photos, hand in there and it will happen.1 point

Trooping is definitely different than approval photos, tweaks can definitely help. Not sure if you have elastic from your shoulder bells to biceps, this can help pull them in when moving. Also having the connections further to the front on your shoulder straps elastic can help angle inwards when arms are at rest. Adding velcro or elastic with straps to the inside of the boots and shins can help. Here are just a few mods1 point

My take is that taking photos for approval is different than taking them after actively trooping for awhile. I guess it's a GML call, but when I am in kit I tweak things periodically and things get out of place due to movement. I don't know of anyone who's kit looks perfect after moving around. Also, photos of the 2 said points would be helpful for feedback. ;) I can see that your knee plate from the back looks a little wide, do you have any front non-action photos that would show it?1 point

It's interesting to learn about the workaround for posting photos with imgur currently blocked in the UK.1 point
