Whew, over a month passed. I guess I've been putting off this update since I didn't wanna be "done" and put the blaster on the wall until my BlastFX kit comes. But DONE comes for us all... so here's the Leia Leveller's most screen accurate form that I am willing to achieve. I got the banana bend in the rail and totally reshaped the nose to fit nicely in the barrel. It didn't take a whole lot of effort, but a bit more than was expected. I also got the greebs from Joseph installed in their spots... though I suspect the rear one fell off for filming and was originally farther back. Starboard side. I just love this thing. So pretty. So satisfying to hold. The port side beauty shot. I'm very satisfied with this. And I'll be even more satisfied taking it all apart again to put in the BlastFX guts. and lastly... My daughter put on my torso and arms and posed for me. She's 10. The plastic was uncomfortable and the blaster was heavy. I didn't get the rubber gloves out. But having this shot fills my heart with happy little laser blasts.4 points

Hi Troopers, It's been a month and i feel I've hit a brick wall with my build, I reckon i'm about 90% there...just life has been busy recently. I did manage another test fit a couple weeks ago with good intentions to put a few things right, and my wife took some snaps of me goofing around. I do plan to put in some positive effort this weekend.3 points

Utter rubbish. You must ship it to me for proper disposal, lest others get the wrong idea of accuracy. j/k - it's awesome! Simply exquisite.3 points

Glued the last piece on yesterday. Just need to do strapping for the arms, mobility cuts on the legs and abs paste gaps on the thighs. So close.3 points

Making slow progress on repairing the armour. I think I've found the right mix of hard/flexible resin to ensure enough stability while also flexing with the fibreglass so it won't crack. Sent from my SM-G981B using Tapatalk2 points

Some great images there for others to follow. For anyone looking, note that Jim's kits do have a few lumps and bums (being hand made molds), I also found this with his Sithtrooper helmet, it can also be the same with the armor, just a case of a little more prep work. Also a great tip for anyone using paint is to go over your filler primer/spray putty with a very light mist coat of black (or another dark color paint), it's an automotive painters trick, when you wet sand and use a block (sanding pad/block of wood) for larger areas you will sand down any high spots first and any low spots or scratches will remain and show some black.2 points

NEW Detachment Leader Just For Laughs Update Your Build Threads Around the Detachment Trooping INFORMATION & AWARD PROGRAMS Common FISD Acronyms and TK Glossary Pre Approval Forum 3D Section Field Exercise Award Imperial Attaché Program Fire Teams EIB & Centurion: What do these terms mean? Need Help Ask the Deployment Officers Advanced Tactics Awards Public Relations Staff List 2020 Follow FISD Welcome to the July newsletter, July officially closes out on the year long celebration of detachments 15th anniversary. We saw some great merch produced specifically calling out the milestone and I would like to thank everyone that had a hand in the discussions, design and helming of the merch runs. I'd also like to thank everyone who purchased anniversary merch and helped us get the word out of how proud we are to have made it this far. Here's is to the next 15 years I would now like to cover off on a few updates. Thank you to all that participated in the Members choice merch item for this year. looks like the Hoodie was a clear winner, so we will look to see how we can turn this into a reality over the next 6 months. James has allocated a merch slot to this item (we get 6 slots to use a year as per legion merch regulations) so consider it locked in. We may also be looking for some cool designs for this item, but James will work on that and any updates will come from him. I would also like to thank the members and staff alike that participated in our recent TLJ/TroS CRL proposed update Polls. Most found the various proposals made sense but there will be some more discussion around a couple of the elements before proposals are sent through to the LMO team. As per usual, once they do come into effect, any member in the process of a build that may be affected from a basic level stand point will have a 3 month grace period on the changes, but any new build will be required to follow the latest CRL version. While we are on CRL's there will be more work on a few new CRL's taking place based on the newer TV shows. As per the norm, we require members wanting to build these new costumes like the newer Remnant TK's, even the slight peak we had of the HWT seen in Obi Wan series, so you can expect to see a few new posts go live in the near future. CRL creation is reasonably straight forward on some of these newer versions of TK as we already have great base CRL's that can be used as the starting platform. If we don't have a person ready to build a costume, we don't have a CRL model. A CRL cant reach fruition unless it has correct images of all the parts represented by a CRL model, so It can't be created without those two major components. Also to remember, we need some good reference photos. Without those, the LMO team wont recognise a CRL possibility and we can't move forward. The old rule of thumb was a minimum of 4 images. Front, back, Left side and right side, clear screen images.etc This gives good coverage and highlights most things needed to visibly represent a 3D image of the character = happy LMO's, = happy member and DL. In recent times the LMO team have been a little more accepting of additional kinds of reference like Hot toys action figures, and to a lesser extent Black series figures (generally average detail compared to high end action figures). There may also be further exceptions to this like the potential for BTS (Behind The Scenes) information which in the past has only been used to improve on smaller unclear details on some costumes. Again this must all reach the LMO teams expectations and qualifications to allow a new to legion CRL to proceed. In essence, if we have enough acceptable references to clearly indicate a costume, then we are golden to move forward. New FISD Tri Fold Brochure We have just launched our newly revised Detachment Tri Fold brochure. It's been quite a long time since we actually had these available and since then many things have changed leading us to updating some of the text to include new costumes, and have more relevant information. Originally these were done in a limited run by the member who created them, but nowadays, we have moved this to a print your own service making them accessible to all countries around the globe. Files are available to all full 501st members on request, and are completed in a very high resolution to ensure quality in a finished product. The thread can be found here for more information and how to access the files. Obi-Wan Kenobi Marathon - Canada The Canadian Garrison was truly honoured to be invited to attend the Obi-Wan Kenobi marathon screening in Toronto in June. They were joined by Hayden Christensen and Deborah Chow, in a theatre packed with Star Wars fans. An incredible night, they want to thank their friends at Walt Disney Studios for such a generous invitation, words cannot describe how much this meant to our members. Truly a work of art, Adam. You have my interest piqued with the chip on top of the socket, though... I really think you may be on to something there. Can I ask what it is and where you got it? I would like to include it in the sets I sell (and add one to my own as well of course)!1 point

Don't forget you can also use body weight for various exercises and stretches. Remember that a little more flexibility will help you gain other strengths as well as help reaching those awkward to get to clips and straps. Things like active stretching help burn calories at the same time you are improving range of motion. Correct stretching techniques are important as is body weight strength exercises to decrease the chance of strain injury which hampers your progress. I was a martial arts instructor for a few years so reach out to me if you need ideas for some of the above. Just DM me1 point

Front raises are super super rough on rotator cuffs. I would never suggest those to anyone. There's many other ways to get upper chest activation. Definitely be careful if you want to do those. I do side lateral raises. Same thing, but directly to the side in a T formation. It's more for trap activation though.1 point

This is what we do here, Chris.. as our mottos states we are "Troopers helping Troopers" (and future troopers, of course)! We want everyone who takes the time to log into our site to feel welcome and not afraid to ask questions. As many as you like! We were all in your position once, and yes, there is a ton of information here. Sometimes it can seem a bit overwhelming, but we are ready willing and able to guide you through it. When it comes to an issue that you may have with your build, we never offer advice without a solution, and you are always welcome to contact any of us in the Deployment Office for specifics. We are here for ya', sir.1 point

Thanks friend Yes, I couldn't tell if I stretched out the decals when I was putting them on, or just put them too high up. I'll try to get them off (if I can) and reapply them. If not, I may just paint. I have to paint the rank bars anyway so I might as well get some more practice! Thanks for the encouragement! You all build my confidence. Wish we could hang out irl! Thank you! Check back later, but I'm in the process of pairing my thread down to just the stuff that's relevant to the helmet in its own new thread - I've got the pictures mostly copied over but will fill in some descriptions. I'll include all the steps I took, but I guess at a high level of "is this necessary"? - Adding resin for strength? Optional, highly recommended - Exterior priming and sanding? Necessary - Interior paint and prep? Optional - Cutting the teeth out? Necessary Cutting the tube stripes out? Optional, highly recommended - Adding the asymmetrical eye 'squint'? Optional - Final exterior white paint? Necessary 2K Clear? Optional - Painting the traps, tears, teeth, ears, brow trim, and neck trim details? Necessary - Assembly, including the mic tips, lens, interior padding, frown mesh, vocoder, and tube stripe backing? Necessary - Adding fans/mic/electronics? Optional, highly recommended for trooping Idk, hopefully between that and the thread, it will point you in the right direction. There aren't a ton of these helmets that are out there and finished to a high level, and everyone has a different technique, but you learn as you go. Take your time. Be patient. Most of these steps are EXTREMELY linear and you can't skip around, so you really need to plan ahead as you build. Feel free to post questions on your build thread and I'll try to pop in from time to time and help. Best of luck!1 point

I also did consider getting a BS helmet but decided against it as I would like the option to move to higher levels without replacing the whole helmet, as for Jim or Nico, from what I've heard Nico's 3d print files are the most accurate ones out there however I do like how Jim sells the helmet "made" and that its made of fiberglass (I think?) and it is also quite accurate too (his armor and helmet are used as examples for the CRL) but the choice is entirely up to you from there, I'm happy to share my opinions of Jim's helmet once I've started working on it !1 point

Not that I have a vested interest other than hoping that all the buyers eventually receive what they purchased, but I’d be curious to know if anybody here on FISD talks to the DN folks at SDCC this weekend.1 point

Well yesterday was EBBB day (Empty Big Brown Box Day). I now have everything out of the box and am in the final stages of the build. So excited. I have been working on my shins, thigh ammo belt and sniper knee plate (that was fun. Sheesh). I have started doing the reinforcement strips for the shoulder bridges as well. Left to do: Finish Shoulder bridges Rear cover strips on lower leg armour Thigh garter system (the clips are too low - will likely do Velcro or may make suspenders) mobility cutouts on legs ABS paste gaps in thigh armour. Elastics from biceps to forearms shoulder to biceps strapping Please let me see if you see any issues.1 point

I've had crazy network problems here which knocked me offline for several days. Painful but things are working again. And I haven't stopped working out. Over 3 weeks straight. I feel so much healthier than I have in so long.1 point

It is great fun following this build and I really like how deep you dive into each detail. There is just one thing that stands out to me and I hope you don't get it wrong if I mention. The scope rail: if you shorten the vertical part on the front and give the full length a 'banana bend' it would better match the screen used rail. Again, I hope you get this as positive criticism. For the amazing level of accuracy you put into this blaster, I found it wrong to not mention this.1 point
