Figured I'd weigh in a bit here!
So keep in mind that whatever kit you get, it WILL need to get painted. Prepare mentally (and financially) for that - if you have NO experience with paint, and high standards... I would absolutely pay someone to do it for you. If you have the time/patience/budget and want to learn, it will be a great opportunity. If you're an experienced painter, it's probably not too bad since it's all just white. I'll lay out a couple positive and negatives for each if it helps. I have Jim's kit and would hands down recommend it over the ABS options, but make your own call for sure.
Jimmiroquai - Fiberglass PROS:
- by far the most accurate kit currently available, bar none, including being the most similar to the material the studio suits were made from
- kit requires very little trimming or assembly
- kit is generally very comfortable and the fiberglass is flexible and high quality
- Jim is very responsive, ships fast, and has great customer service
- kit can include a quality, one-piece fiberglass helmet (based on the Black Series - only a properly finished Nico 3D-print is nicer, imo)
CONS:
- needs to be painted: the kit comes in kind of a tan/off-white, and usually has a fair amount of small surface imperfections that need to be fixed (low spots/pinholes/etc.)
- it is more expensive than the ABS offerings, and shipping from the Philippines can be expensive as well
- the fiberglass can develop small stress cracks, but I wouldn't say any moreso than ABS
850Armor Works or HeadShotProps - ABS PROS:
- less expensive
- many builders are more familiar with working with ABS
CONS:
- sculpts and proportions are not as accurate
- not accurate to the material used on the studio suits, or the sharp corners/details that are the hallmark of the suit
- needs to be painted, as it includes a mix of resin or 3D-printed detail parts along with the ABS
- not currently offering a helmet (HSP appears to be, but I'm not a fan)
- requires a good deal of trimming and assembly, little complete documentation/guides are available
That is of course my personal opinion, but maybe it will help and give you some extra things to consider. Feel free to check out my build thread (link in my sig) if you want, and I'm happy to try to help answer any questions. Boots and gloves look good, I have the same. Consider Sheev's Emporium for the undersuit as well. Good luck!
