In From the DL From the New XO New CRL Challenge Coins Hall of Fame Obscure Trivia Just For Laughs In The Media Competitions Trooping Battlefront II & The Last Jedi Notable Troops Imperial Attaché Program Advanced Tactics Awards EIB - The March To 1000 Merchandise Public Relations Follow FISD For us Americans, November is the month of Thanksgiving. I would like to give my thanks to everyone who has worked so hard to make 2017 a phenomenal year for FISD. The staff in particular has been going full tilt. From the massive Celebration push that resulted in our largest merchandise runs ever, getting 4 brand new CRL’s 100% complete (and by the time you read this, the FOTK’s will have L2/L3 as well), dozens of dozens of new EI & Centurions, plus one of the more drama free years for the forums, increased Facebook coverage and even the newsletter that you are reading now. It’s all possible thanks to the tireless efforts of our staff. The attaches too have been very active in keeping the membership appraised of everything that is going on. We thank them for their service as well. Above and beyond all that, I’m thankful for the friendships that FISD and the Legion have created and forged, some going back a decade or more. I am very thankful to be part of a Legion of people united by their love of Star Wars to bring joy to so many people. That, and my armor. And my blaster. Because the only thing better than hanging out with friends, is hanging out with friends in white armor, right? What are you thankful for? Sound off and let share your thoughts. With Unquestioned Loyalty Paul Hoeffer TK8020 “Daetrin” FISD Detachment Leader Greetings fellow Troopers Fist, I would like to thank Tim for his hard work and dedication as a Detatchement Leader and as an Detatchment XO. Secondly, I would like to thank Paul for the trust to be his XO. When I heard that Tim had to stepped down, Paul asked if we had any candidate in mind. I messaged Paul and raised my hand. Why? Because I love the FISD. I come here and I feel at home. I don’t want to do this for glory or to tell people: Hey, I’m the XO. I do it for the love of these costumes. A little about me. In the real world, I’m a production manager in aeronautical lifting equipment company. I joined the Legion in 2013. Currently, I have five 501st approved costume and one Rebel Legion costume. In 2015, Eric Brager has asked me to come on board as a Deputy Provost Marshall. This year, Paul had promoted me as a full Provost Marshall. At the same time, I became an LCOG, which do take some of my free time. Now, currently FISD XO. I’m always open and ready to talk. Feel free to message me. With Unquestioned Loyalty Eric Salottolo TK37427 “Tolo” FISD Executive Officer Rebels - R Sometimes it just takes one person on with the drive to get something to done. TK-11281, Eric Meyer, who is also the current DL of CTN, worked hard to get the details on his Rebel TK correct, and was instrumental not only in being the CRL model (quite the claim to fame), but also did a all the photoshopping of the parts and was the a key contributor to the CRL text. Talk about trailblazing! Without the diligence, persistence, and true grit, this costume would still be sitting in draft form. I would like to personally thank all of you who helped get this CRL across the finish line. Congratulations on becoming the first approved and CRL model Eric TK11281. With Unquestioned Loyalty Paul Hoeffer TK8020 “Daetrin” FISD Detachment Leader Do You Know The Rules? Many of us collect challenge coins but do you know the rules of engagement? Don't get caught This past month has been filled with some absolutely phenomenal troop reports! If you haven’t done so already, I highly encourage everyone to check out the epic experiences had by all - Bricktober, The Last Jedi Trailer at Half-time, Run for the Cure, Micheal Giacchino's 50th Birthday, Libracon, Naha Parade, and so many more. This month, I would like to recognize a photo that speaks volumes. Honoring TK - 91488 Preston “All I can really say is that I feel privileged to be part of this organization.” With Unquestioned Loyalty Aaron Gibson TK99725 "Pyrates" Imperial Propaganda Department A new monthly item that lists a few unusual facts about the SW franchise. This month: "ANH Stormtroopers" The local actors hired to play Sandies in the ANH scene where they are investigating the escape pod were paid a whopping 8,500 Tunisian Dinars. (about $6.50). When you hear the "clunking" sound of blasters being cocked, it is actually the sound of a parking meter handle being turned. The sound of the E-11s was made by using a hammer to strike the "guy wire" of a radio antenna. Luke's line (as a TK) "I can't see a thing in this helmet" was not scripted. He said it to Harrison Ford when he thought the cameras had stopped rolling, and it was left in the film. (Welcome to OUR world, you whiny Rebel). In the opening scene, this is the only time in the Saga where a TK uses an Imperial Blaster in the "stun" mode. The Last Jedi Trailer II Members of the 501st Midwest, Great Lakes, Southern California and Wisconsin Garrison's as well as Disney actors walked out on to the field during halftime of the NFL football game between the Chicago Bears and the Minnesota Vikings in Chicago last month. Fireworks flashed while the Stormtroopers marched onto the field as the new trailer to Star Wars The Last Jedi played onscreen. At the request of Disney/LFL we can't show you their faces or tell you their names but well done all involved you know who you are. NYCC Star Wars Experience Star Wars: The Last Jedi is almost here, and Lucasfilm is going full blast with the marketing for the second movie in the sequel trilogy. The Star Wars booth at the NYCC has this amazing gimmick where they lockdown the booth full of visitors then they get raided by First Order Stormtroopers. Check it out: TIME TO VOTE!!!! The competition is now closed, but you will be able to choose the design you like best on this thread: https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/43345-we-need-your-vote/ The winner will receive a free patch of their winning design and 501st car decal along with some other cool swag, but most importantly, bragging rights! It is still amazing how many talented members we have here, thank you to all of you who participated. Trooping Battlefront II & The Last Jedi For those that are unaware the 501st has been given approval by Disney/LFL to organise troops for both the premier of The Last Jedi and also the release of Battlefront II. There are a couple of rules, as always please make sure the host of the event does not advertise your appearance, BUT you are welcome to advertise on your own / garrison / squad's social media. Also for The Last Jedi you can only visit cinemas, no other retail locations. Official correspondence from Disney/LFL · November 17-19: Battlefront II Launch · December 14-21: The Last Jedi Theatrical Events Hi all, We wanted to send the club leads some advance notice of two events that will be open to costumed appearances by fans without prior approval from Disney or Lucasfilm – the Battlefront II launch, spanning the weekend of November 17-19 (give or take a day or two) and the release of The Last Jedi, during the week of December 14-21. For the Battlefront II launch, we’re asking that the appearances be limited to those retailers who are selling Battlefront II and that costumed appearances not be used in the advertising for the event. Costumed fans who wish to participate at special events surrounding the launch of The Last Jedi between December 14-21, 2017 may do so at accommodating theaters without seeking approval from Disney/Lucasfilm. Like the BFII launch, we are asking that costumed appearances not be used in the advertising for the event. We are leaving it to the individual fans and fan groups to independently organize around these events as they see fit, so if you or your group will require a special area for changing in/out of costume, etc., please reach out to the theater management/staff to make those arrangements. PLEASE NOTE that costumed appearances for The Last Jedi premieres are restricted to theatrical venues only and do not include general retailers, toy stores, restaurants, etc. We want to thank all our fans for their continued support of Star Wars and look forward to celebrating more exciting movie releases with you in the years to come! *NOTE* Always follow your garrison/squad's guidelines when in comes to organising Disney/LFL promotional troops. Want Your Troop to be Included? Post your troop report in the Field Training Exercises section here Those with troop logs please post a separate troop report as it is easier to link too. Are you an approved TK that spends more time on the boards than the average Trooper? Do you enjoy using your knowledge to help out future and existing Troopers? If so, we would like to invite you to join the Imperial Attache program! Members of the I.A. team are chosen to help out not only those here on the boards, but on a local level as well. Our aim is to have at least one in each and every Garrison, Squad and Outpost in the entire legion to be the eyes and ears of the FISD on a local level. A suggested level of EIB or above is preferred, as part of the duties include assisting those aiming for levels 2 and 3, but is not a requirement. Being active on the boards on a regular basis , welcoming new members and helping out where you can is, though. Some of the benefits: 1. Access to exclusive Attache merch., including patches, etc. 2. Having the Imperial Attache title under your name. 3. Being a part of the team that welcomes new and prospective members of the FISD. 4. Being the "go-to" person in your Garrison, Squad or Outpost. 5. Exclusive access to the Attache HQ area, Imperial Propaganda Machine (newsletter) and merchandise discussions. We are currently in need of Attaches in many units, especially International Garrisons/Squads and Outposts. For more information on this program, please head here and if you should have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me at any time. As many of you are aware, the FISD is currently in our March to 1000 program. Our goal is to reach the one thousand mark of Troopers who have earned their Expert Infantry Badge, and although we are well on our way to this goal, we still have a long way to go! The amount of approved submissions is increasing (over 80 this year alone) thanks to the dedication of those willing to go the "extra mile" toward screen accuracy. Here is a brief description of EIB as written by Paul (Daetrin), our founder: "Expert Infantryman status is not required for members of this detachment. It should be viewed as an optional set of requirements for those who wish to take the accuracy of their costumes to the next level, and be recognized accordingly. We're a costuming club - think of it as an award for costuming excellence and you get the picture. The requirements will not replace or supersede 501st standards, but only serve as an inspiration for the level of accuracy that can be achieved. The standards are meant to be high but achievable..." Besides the added pride you will have in your armor, those reaching this level can purchase exclusive EIB gear (patches, decals, coins (coming soon) etc.) and get a free certificate for your accomplishment. If you are interested or would like more information about the program head here that will help. You can also contact myself or any Imperial Attaché, and we will be more than happy to assist you! Hey Dan, A great primer coat for MDF is white glue thinned to a (foam) brushable consistency. Don't get it too thin as water will make MDF swell. A couple coats with 220 grit sanding in between and you should have a solid surface to paint.2 points

I for one won’t be using a ruler lol. i agree on the overlap construction, from the mass of screenshots available, it’s a clear cut case that the new kits were made in that method. What that would do unless the language suggested otherwise, is mean no preconstructed ANH armour could be approvable. Makes it a little more confusing I guess, unless the CRL was to state, overlap or but join is acceptable. personally I like that bus close to scream accurate so it would be overlap construction a major st for level2.1 point

4mm is the rivet shaft diameter. The rivet head is bigger.1 point

The next part is the sound. I used a WT5001 or WT2000M02 MP3-module. This module has a slot for a MicroSD-card so all MP's can be stored on the SD-card. Specifications can be found at http://voice-chip.ru/docs/WT5001_chip_and_modules.pdf The disadvantage of the module is the fact that the MP3's are accessed by it's location on the FAT-table (File Allocation Table). This means the MP3-files are not recognised by it's name, but the sequence on which the files are stored on the SD-card. Example: The first file that is saved on the SD-card is called "Sound02.mp3". The second file that is saved is called "Sound01.mp3". When asked to play filenumber 1, "Sound02.mp3"is played. So when saving multiple files on the SD-card remember the sequence in which the files are stored. The communication between the Arduino-board and the MP3-module is based on a serial-port. This communication takes place by the TX0 and RXi pins. The TX0-pin of the Arduino needs to be connected to the RXi-pin on the MP3-module. By using the Arduino command "serial.write()" a hexadecimal character can be send to the MP3-module. Two main string are imported is this case: - Setting the volume : "7E 03 A7 xx 7E" needs to be send to the MP3-module. xx needs to be replaced by a hexadecimal between 00 and 1F (0 -> 31). 1F is the highest volume as 00 will give no sound. - Playing a MP3-file : "7E 04 A0 00 xx 7E" needs to be send to the MP3-module. xx refers to the number of the MP3-file in the FAT-table. So "01" will play the first MP3-file. Besides the MP3-module I used a 5V 3W amplifier (PAM8403) which is connected to the speakers. The speakers are 20x30mm which fit perfectly in the pipe of the Doopydoos. /* Project "E-11 Blaster Sound/Light" by TK11131 Dutch Garrison based on Project "Open Blaster" by TK8177 Italica Garrison - Preateroian Squad Version 1.0b : Sound only */ // Define Pin layout const int PinTrigger = 2; // Trigger function const int Hold_Delay = 200 ; // [msec] // Define const for Firing modes // Variables int TriggerState = 0; //Reads status of Trigger int SequenceRepeats = 1; // Amount of sequences per Trigger int PreviousState = 0; // PreviousState of Trigger unsigned long TimeTriggerPressed; // Time at which the trigger is pressed boolean SequenceStart = false; // Allow Sequence to Start void setup() { // Setup pin modes pinMode(PinTrigger, INPUT); //Trigger Serial.begin(9600); //Baudrate Serial.write(0x7E); Serial.write(0x03); Serial.write(0xA7); Serial.write(0x1d); // volume (hexadecimal conversion 1-31 --> 1f = max / 14 = medium) Serial.write(0x7E); } void loop() { TriggerState = digitalRead(PinTrigger); // read trigger status // Check state Trigger if (( TriggerState == HIGH) && (PreviousState == LOW)) { //Mark pressing moment SequenceStart = true; TimeTriggerPressed = millis(); } if (( TriggerState == HIGH) && ( PreviousState == HIGH) && ( SequenceStart == true)) { if (( millis() - TimeTriggerPressed) >= Hold_Delay) { for(int x = 0;x<SequenceRepeats; x++) { Serial.write(0x7E); Serial.write(0x04); Serial.write(0xA0); // A0 for SD card Serial.write(0x00); Serial.write(0x01); // track number Serial.write(0x7E); } SequenceStart = false; } } PreviousState = TriggerState; } The code above I used for testing the sound module.1 point

Hi all. So, greenstuff around the trigger guard is now painted, satin black. I’ve started working on the bolt colouring. I’m reasonably pleased with it but will take another look tonight. Point of interest - the ‘fake’ part of the bolt that sits next to the cocking handle is made using MDF (wood). Annoyingly, the surface is quite porous/absorbent. This makes it hard to have a consistent appearance with the resin and ABS parts in the ejection port. As such, it’s very likely that I’ll remove the top couple of millimetres of MDF and replace with two strips of 1mm ABS. This should allow more consistency. :-) I’ve put this in for UKG blaster clearance. If it clears, I’ll submit for armour clearance too. :-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

The bicep was clearly overlap, with the cover strip moulded into the outer side. For centurion I feel this should be the mandated construction. Forearm is overalap also. The bottom cover is moulded in the top one appears to be a separate piece added on later. I tried matte sticker for the markings on the snowtrooper armor (shoulder bell and helmet) and it looked way off. So given that all decals on the snowtrooper armor are satin, that the decals on the stormtrooper helmet are satin, etc..., I would tend to think that they used the same material everywhere and that satin is the way to go.1 point

You can achieve the same look as the original holster fixings by using rivets to hold the snaps to the inside of the belt. I have done this before with no problems. I use 4mm rivets directly though the canvas and male part of the snap. Just make sure the rivet length is not too long as it will prevent the female part of the snaps on the holster from snapping closed.1 point

Well...they did that on the movie-suits when they needed repair so one could say it`s screen-accurate, painted white the screws won`t be all that visible Personally I would fill the holes with abs-paste and use snaps or just glue the elastic to the inside of the armor, if beeing able of taking it apart isn`t important1 point

I been busy on the bucket. The interior received 3 coats of rubberized spray material. After the interior paint dried, I installed my lenses and painted the frown. I am going with decals for the the rest of the bucket. Finally, I have been working on brackets and hardware for the body armor. I will countersink all of the screw heads and attach elastic loops next. Progress!!1 point

As I got LED's, trigger and a mode selector it is time to go digital for the first time. The rotary switch contains 5 pins : 1 input and 4 outputs. The output pins can be seen as a binary code : When position 1 is selected, the first output pin is directly connected to the input. When position 2 is selected, the second output pin is connected to the input. At Position 3, both first and second output is connected to the input. So: Pos 0 = 0 0 0 0 Pos 1 = 0 0 0 1 Pos 2 = 0 0 1 0 Pos 3 = 0 0 1 1 ... This means the rotary switch needs 4 I/O-ports on the Arduino board to determine the position of the rotary switch. The End-switch of the trigger is just a ON/OFF switch, so only requires 1 I/O-port. The digital I/O-ports of the arduino board use 5V as 1 and 0V as zero. This means a pull-up or pull-down resistor is needed to read the trigger and switch (see https://playground.arduino.cc/CommonTopics/PullUpDownResistor). I my case I used pull-down resistors (10K), so when an output is connected to the input 5V is generated otherwise 0V. As I need 5 I/O ports I also need 5 pull-down resistors. Before everything can be mounted I used a breadboard to test all electronics (also buyable at Aliexpress ). So the first script I wrote is to test trigger, rotary switch and LED's. /* Project "E-11 Blaster Sound/Light" by TK11131 Dutch Garrison based on Project "Open Blaster" by TK8177 Italica Garrison - Preateroian Squad Version 1.0 : No Sound, just LED's */ // Define Pin layout const int PinTrigger = 2; // Trigger function const int PinSwitch_BIT1 = 3; // Low bit of rotary switch const int PinSwitch_BIT2 = 4; const int PinSwitch_BIT4 = 5; const int PinSwitch_BIT8 = 6; // High bit of rotary switch const int PinLED1 = 7; // Led closest to Trigger const int PinLED2 = 8; const int PinLED3 = 9; const int PinLED4 = 10; const int PinLED5 = 11; // Led at nozzle // Define const for Firing modes const int FireModeSingle = 1; // DigitalValue (0001)= Rotarypos 1 for Single fire mode const int FireModeBurst = 9; // DigitalValue (1001)= Rotarypos 9 for Burst fire mode const int BurstMode = 3; // Amout of sequence repeats on one trigger action const int Hold_Delay = 100; // [msec] time the trigger must be pushed before activation const int DelayTime = 100; // [msec] delay between LEDs const int DelayTimeEnd = 200; // [msec] duration of LED at nozzle // Variables int TriggerState = 0; //Reads status of Trigger int SwitchValue = 0; // Readout of Rotary switch int SequenceRepeats = 1; // Amount of sequences per Trigger int PreviousState = 0; // PreviousState of Trigger unsigned long TimeTriggerPressed; // Time at which the trigger is pressed boolean SequenceStart = false; // Allow Sequence to Start void setup() { // Setup pin modes pinMode(PinTrigger, INPUT); //Trigger pinMode(PinSwitch_BIT1, INPUT); // Rotary Switch low Bit pinMode(PinSwitch_BIT2, INPUT); pinMode(PinSwitch_BIT4, INPUT); pinMode(PinSwitch_BIT8, INPUT); // Rotary switch High bit pinMode(PinLED1, OUTPUT); // Pin Led1 (closest at trigger) pinMode(PinLED2, OUTPUT); pinMode(PinLED3, OUTPUT); pinMode(PinLED4, OUTPUT); pinMode(PinLED5, OUTPUT); // Pin Led5 (Led at nozzle) digitalWrite(PinLED1,LOW); //Turn off led1 digitalWrite(PinLED2,LOW); //Turn off led2 digitalWrite(PinLED3,LOW); //Turn off led3 digitalWrite(PinLED4,LOW); //Turn off led4 digitalWrite(PinLED5,LOW); //Turn off led5 } void loop() { TriggerState = digitalRead(PinTrigger); // read trigger status // Read out Rotary switch for Firing mode SequenceRepeats = 0; // Reset Fire mode to None SwitchValue = 0; // Reset Readout Rotary switch int val_SwitchValue_BIT1 = digitalRead(PinSwitch_BIT1); int val_SwitchValue_BIT2 = digitalRead(PinSwitch_BIT2); int val_SwitchValue_BIT4 = digitalRead(PinSwitch_BIT4); int val_SwitchValue_BIT8 = digitalRead(PinSwitch_BIT8); if ( val_SwitchValue_BIT1 == 1) { SwitchValue = SwitchValue + 1; } if ( val_SwitchValue_BIT2 == 1) { SwitchValue = SwitchValue + 2; } if ( val_SwitchValue_BIT4 == 1) { SwitchValue = SwitchValue + 4; } if ( val_SwitchValue_BIT8 == 1) { SwitchValue = SwitchValue + 8; } if ( SwitchValue == FireModeSingle) { SequenceRepeats = 1; } if ( SwitchValue == FireModeBurst) { SequenceRepeats = BurstMode; } // Check state Trigger if (( TriggerState == HIGH) && (PreviousState == LOW)) { //Mark pressing moment SequenceStart = true; TimeTriggerPressed = millis(); } if (( TriggerState == HIGH) && ( PreviousState == HIGH) && ( SequenceStart == true)) { if (( millis() - TimeTriggerPressed) >= Hold_Delay) { for(int x = 0;x<SequenceRepeats; x++) { // play Led sequence digitalWrite(PinLED1,HIGH); delay(DelayTime); digitalWrite(PinLED1,LOW); digitalWrite(PinLED2,HIGH); delay(DelayTime); digitalWrite(PinLED2,LOW); digitalWrite(PinLED3,HIGH); delay(DelayTime); digitalWrite(PinLED3,LOW); digitalWrite(PinLED4,HIGH); delay(DelayTime); digitalWrite(PinLED4,LOW); digitalWrite(PinLED5,HIGH); delay(DelayTimeEnd); digitalWrite(PinLED5,LOW); } SequenceStart = false; } } PreviousState = TriggerState; } The main items of this script are: Arduino Pins 2-6 are used as input. Arduino Pins 7 - 11 are used as output for the LED's. The result pins of the rotary-switch are calculated using the binary-rules. So an integer value is generated between 0 and 9. If position 1 is selected, 1 sequence is started, if position 9 is selected 3 sequences will start (Burst mode). The trigger needs to be held at least 100 msec before it activates the LED's. This delay is used to prevent firing when you just move around. The delay time between the LED's now set on 100 msec. At the final version this delay is tuned to the length of the sound file. As the Arduino pro Mini is not programmable using USB I bought a FT232RL. Using this tool the Pro Mini can be connected to a computer. One big imported thing that needs to be remembered : Number or mark all wires as there are going to be a lot of them.1 point
