About to pull the trigger on helmet, AA or RS or?
dejango replied to AMGF's topic in ANH (Stunt and Hero)
In the long run its your money and will ultimately be your decision, but from what i can tell RS does have a bit of a standing history with people here, where as AA isn't the most popular, so i'd go with RS simply because i see the name more often and people having their helmet -
oh my lord what is this, over $2k for all of that. pish posh on anovos' FOTK, you'd be better off going with Jim's

I think any kind of kit would work well for a TKC. ATA, ANOVOS, etc, as long as the proper modifications are made

VIDEO: Unboxing an Anovos First Order Helmet
dejango replied to SkulShurtugalTCG's topic in TFA Stormtrooper
That makes sense because they probably had to have a bigger helmet for Boyega -
It should just be something like this, but it might vary depending on the type of kit. This is for an ANH kit

lmao why cant they just say "screen accurate copy", adding all the mumbo jumbo just seems like overselling -
Do you plan on selling kits when it's all finished?

In the trailer these guys were sitting in a tank, so im assuming it wont fall under path finder

First one looks decent but you're going to have to end up doing a lot more prep work than you want to. The guy on our forum (your second link) is (from what i've heard) very good quality, though i'm not sure if he's still doing kits, i haven't checked it in a while. Personally, I'd go with Derrek's Edit: also just realized that Derrek ships from Germany, so if you're willing to wait a bit longer and/or pay shipping costs then by all means

Questions on finishing and painting FOTK armor
dejango replied to BlackFrown72's topic in TFA Stormtrooper
I would wager you wouldn't even have to sand at all and just go straight to a full gloss clear coat. Make sure you ask someone who has experience with paints about glosses, because a lot of companies say their product is gloss but most of the time they aren't completely glossy and just end up with a more polished semi gloss look -
I ordered the shadow trooper from ANOVOS last year in november and it's supposed to ship in June. I also have their OT TK and it's quality is pretty decent so I'm assuming their shadow will be just as good. Check this forum for more possible sellers or information on shadow troopers, they can help http://www.501stspecopsdet.net/ Other than that all the advice I personally can give is based off of my history with ANOVOS, and i have yet to recieve my shadow kit. I wouldn't paint a white Tk though, thats just asking for a pain in the a** if you ask me Also don't forget this http://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:TX_shadow_stormtrooperthis is your bible when building your kit lol

Questions on finishing and painting FOTK armor
dejango replied to BlackFrown72's topic in TFA Stormtrooper
Although i haven't painted a set of armor before I have painted a lot of plastic and i believe Jim made a video once about what paint he uses and the process he recommends. I believe he uses rustoleum but i could be wrong -
Alaskan Legacy Storm Trooper Build
dejango replied to sorceresssupreme's topic in Legacy Stormtrooper Build Threads
Depending on where you are in AK you could ask some of the members from the outpost there to help if you need it myself included http://akoutpost.hoop.la/ -
Velcro from top to bottom about a centimeter in width

Here is an ATA build http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/29683-anh-stunt-ata-re-build-part-1/?fromsearch=1

Unless you want to move around a ton when you're trooping, thats almost perfect. I personally never intend to run or do long walks in my armor so it works perfectly for me

Here is where you can find armor http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/11538-the-various-types-of-armor-and-where-to-find-them/ Here is what you will need (in a nutshell) to build http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/31404-supply-list-for-your-tk-build/ Most sellers only let you buy the armor as a whole kit, i.e. helmet, armor, and then you'd get your boots from elsewhere, so stick to that. Good luck! Don't get anything from Ebay!
-
Definitely weigh out your options before buying from anovos, someone mentioned on their facebook that they pre ordered the helmet sometime last year in spring and it still hasn't arrived for them. Time seems to ellude them Here is an alternative http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/31986-episode-7-tk-helmets/?hl=dday

Invitation to all for tips and criticism.
dejango replied to DarthSarcasm's topic in Getting Started - Read this First!
I would not go for 150 grit sandpaper as someone stated. Especially for delicate thin areas like on the helmet, i would go for a higher grit, something from 220 to 300 -
This type of kit is no longer approvable, but was grandfathered in so that existing owners of the armor could still be active in the 501st. If you're up for the challenge of making some big modifications and a new bucket i say go for it! Otherwise yeah, as mark said, might just be better to call it an antique and get an approvable kit
-
Looks like a nice kit. I personally liked starting from the legs up, simply because they are the biggest (and in my opinion) more difficult glueing parts and i like tackling those first. Measure twice, cut once

I think it looks better when the kidney plate doesn't overlap the ab plate, i.e. the ab plate should be overlapping the kidney or not at all if possible
