FNarmour build thread
Daetrin replied to steamboatphan's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
The DL has spoken. I've had to hide the off-topic posts. I'll start suspensions next. Stay on target peeps...it's a build thread. Any other comments, create a new thread. -
I'm wondering with all the issues with rubber gaskets, they took the easy route this time?

Way to rock!

At this point there is nothing constructive being added. Clint has given the best answers that can be given, and there is no benefit to any more back and forth. This thread is locked as a result to avoid the dead horse being beaten further.

I'm in an open carry state, so I just strap it to a bin. That said, I can see in many places a bag is better. Most folks seem to just get some cloth at Michael's fabrics and do a quick sew job with a drawstring or rifle bags like Andrew posted. I think Aaron's idea of a ski bag to add padding seem a good one for fragile weapons.

Thanks for the detailed feedback brother, this is exactly what we need to see.

The reality of the situation is that Peter offered to send kits to a few people for evaluation on the open boards. I suggested a list of 5 people who both are known for unassailable integrity over numerous years on this forum, and also have unassailable credentials in armor making/building. I'm guessing others contacted him as well. What Peter does with that information is up to him, and he can ignore it or not. It seems he has been following up with a few people but who actually he sent kit out to is known only by himself at this time. The premise is that these people will give unbiased feedback on the armor. I asked Peter what people should do with the kit once completed (e.g. return it) and his answer was to donate it to a worthy cause. Kevin B. is certainly free to do the same. It's one thing to see pix side by side, quite another to hold the kit in your hands, see the plastic in detail, etc. As Clint noted, there is no requirement that any maker do this, and it is something Peter offered up on his own. It is unprecedented that a maker would send stuff gratis in exchange for an unbiased review, and the people doing the reviewing are transparent on how the kit was obtained. Since they are free, no one on command staff is getting a kit AFAIK, as that would be a conflict of interest. I'll beat the dead horse one last time to ensure it's out of its misery: it sure would be easier if people asked a clear question first such as "what was the vetting process" etc. and waiting for an answer before making assumptions, accusations, or otherwise causing forum churn. EDIT: Lastly, please refrain from making unfound accusations. All you achieve is pissing people off and making yourself look bad, as you will come out in the wrong at the end. The end goal is unbiased opinions.

Hi Walt, To date we haven't seen or heard of any substantive quality or service concerns. We're chatting about it now in the staff area of the boards and will have a decision no later than end of week, if not sooner. Thanks for posting this ask - we appreciate your patience and also professionalism.

Sweet! It's great to see our "unofficial" mascot get some film time

Kevin - how about we not through out the good with the bad. There have been positive comments too. As you know FB is just the way many get started, and some FB groups are pretty good. I've been in this game a long time too, and we should remember we are all on the same team. AWOL's comment aside, I don't believe anyone is saying it is a reflection on you, and it's true that some FB groups have been so poor as to put a bad light on the others. Everyone - Kevin makes a great point: making personally critical remarks on Kevin or opining in the negative without clarification is highly off-putting, and counter-productive to what this forum is all about. I know it's easy especially before morning coffee kicks in or being on the keyboard overly long in to the night to treat forum threads as if they were FB posts, but before hitting that POST button it may be best to re-read what you type and try to see it from the OPs point of view. I know I've been guilty of this too, so this is as much a reminder for myself as it is for others. Kevin - it was the right thing to post up about the FB page. As you note, if people don't want to join, they don't have to.

Jump Trooper or "What's laying around"
Daetrin replied to Daetrin's topic in Other Non-Approved Star Wars Costumes
This is exactly what I mean. It's a lot like an ANH trooper but with some ROTJ details, and an awful FX-like helmet. Seems cobbled together with parts from other kits. I'd have preferred an ANH stunt or hero as the base and been consistent. Heck, why not even an ESB? But mixing parts, bleh :- -
Sideshow now has a Jump Trooper for sale: http://www.sideshowtoy.com/collectibles/star-wars-jumptrooper-hot-toys-902768/?utm_source=bronto&utm_medium=email&utm_term=Image+-+Jump+Trooper&utm_content=Image+-+Jump+Trooper&utm_campaign=070716news Basically a mash-up - I don't think it's ever been seen anywhere? Seems like they had some parts laying around and are trying to use it to get some extra rev?

Keep it civil guys - else the mods will come in to play.

On this day, 10 years ago, I pushed the proverbial button that made this forum live. I remember thinking at the time that if I could help just a few troopers avoid the pitfalls and hours of detective work that I had to go through, I'd be a success. I was also trying to figure out who I could convince to be the other 9 signers on the charter. It may be hard to believe today, but 10 years ago there wasn't much support for a stormtrooper detachment, even at the Legion level. I was however a man on a mission and would not be dissuaded. I was soon joined by other troopers new to the 501st - I don't think any of us had been in the Legion more than a year or so - and we just plowed ahead. It was a humble beginning. I did the first tutorials in my garage floor that would be laughable today. Our first merch was a t-shirt (that I still have) which was one color on black, and Wyatt (TK4205) hand drew the blaster as we had no other model to use. Through it all there have been incredible highs such as getting the EI program started, our first FISD photo shoot at Celebration (and having our picture taken with Brian Muir in a subsequent one), getting the CRL's done the way we wanted them to be (as opposed to allowing out of the box FX, forever), the singular FISD calendar that was truly a work of art. There have also been some very low lows, such as the infamous flame wars that happened in the past, character assassination and personal threats, and projects such as the TKpedia that involved a huge amount of work but failed. There have been dozens of FISD members who have served on staff, and more on extended staff such as the Imperial Propaganda Machine, not to mention the dedicated troopers who have given of themselves selflessly to the betterment of the detachment and earned the coveted FISD Achievement Medal. My thanks to all of you! Special shout-outs to Terrell Reber, Carlos Diaz, Greg Mortensen, Ed DaSilva, and Brian Robinson who were the first key staff members and instrumental to FISD becoming what it is today. Also to A.C. (NoVaTie) who has been our dedicated membership officer quietly processing people's paperwork for 7 of the past 10 years. And most of all to TK4205, Wyatt Stephens, FISD member #2, merch officer and FISD Armorer extraordinaire, who started this journey with me and to this day continues to create best of class designs and tutorials. In the end, it's been a wonderous journey. Lifelong friendships have been forged, much food and beverage has been consumed, and FISD continues to be a leader amongst 501st detachments. We are the largest unit in terms of raw membership numbers, and our programs and policies which were once trailblazing are standard on many 501st forums. It's incredible that 254 troopers have earned their Centurion certificate, given how seriously high the standards are. There are now 600+ Expert Infantry members, meaning more 501st members are EI than most costumes have members. Thank you to everyone who has contributed even one post to this magnificent community. The 1st Imperial Stormtrooper Detachment is the best damn det in the Legion, and I look forward to the next 10 years. Happy Anniversary, FISD!

I pretend I'm one of the worn troopers on the Tantive with scuff marks...

I have to be honest, I think 80% of the Legion sports better looking armor than what the stills are showing. They could have easily taken 30 random FISD members and gotten better results. I'm not sure why they didn't - we have 400 EI and 100 Centurions. Just take their pick. Sadly, this is the first SW film I'm really not looking forward to seeing, or armor that I think is worse than what we have today.
-
The problem with FB groups is that non-501st people can get the impression that they are "official" when they are not, and then can get confused when there is different info in a 501st forum.

Wow, this is looking great!
-
Wow! How much did it cost to make this thing?
-
Alas, not everyone is on Facebook. I guess those of us not, are out in the weeds?
-
Jeff, been enjoying your posts and I hope more take the time to read through it. It's been great! Say "Hi" to Carlos Diaz some time for me.
-
He already has the most EI awards of anyone, ever, in the Legion, plus his Centurion. If anything one would argue for an FISD Achievement Medal for pushing these boundaries.
-
I'm amazed there are already 164 TFA TK's...
