  1. I'd suggest waiting until after the elections and seeing how the next DL makes a decision before making a decision. Needless to say, it's definitely something that will get clarified.
  2. Pretty funny - thank so much!
  3. God that is *gorgeous*. Bet you sleep with that too...
  4. Well, for 501st acceptance, it's perfectly fine. But I'm hearing a lot of people are buying replacements.
  5. It's kinda like using "level" in D&D. For our purposes, we use recasting to mean the direct copying of someone's work. Since most of the time it is done without permission, recasting unqualified means recasting without permission, and we explicitly denote when recasting is done with permission of the person who made the item.
  6. Exactly. You can make FX 501st acceptable, and make a TM kit unacceptable. The kits are able to be 501st compliant for sure and if you follow the instructions you get to 501st CRL criteria, though your GML will probably make you repaint the frown. But Wyatt speaks the truth - it comes down to the quality of the build these days, not the kits so much.
  7. I'd bet a bottle of scotch this is what happened, and in addition that once they get an approval to "go" from Disney, they can't make any changes without going through yet another round of approvals. This is great feedback. At some point someone is going to post a "HOWTO: Make your ANOVOS ANH Helmet Look More Accurate" thread and there we will go. At my local garrison almost all the feedback is on the frown, and how simple re-painting seems to be a must. Considering the over-spray, I think it will need to be done regardless as we'd not really accept it as-is for EI/Centurion. It's not much work - heck even I could probably do that. ;-)
  8. Hahahahaha
  9. That costume is being covered on SpecOps board.
  10. Yeah, for small parts he's pretty responsive
  11. Well, that's not always true either. I had two applicants who used E6000 on their thighs and damaged one taking it apart to try to trim it. There is probably a safe way to do it, but it's not always evident. Hmmm...another good idea for a HOWTO
  12. Pix? What I was thinking of was when Finn rips off his neck seal while de-armoring on the sand dunes of Jakku.
  13. I'll be printing & reading tomorrow as tonight I'm on a teeny screen. I would agree CA glue may not be the best call - perhaps they felt it would be easiest to understand by the public vs. E6000?
  14. Details of where they were? Seems simple enough to do.
  15. Correct. To date there has been no noted difference. Except...in ANH you can see the bib style seal on the hero characters, yet in TFA FN-2187 clearly has a neck seal just like most 501st have.
  16. Are you talking the whole thing? Actually for things like the front of the shins, thighs, or biceps, I guess CA can be OK. Heck, I used to use ABS cement. What worries me more is that people may glue stuff fully (biceps, thighs) without trooping a time or two. I've had several folks even with E6000 who glued early, only to find out they were too tight or else had board short looks, which are equally as bad. At least starting out with velcro you can get a sense of how you want it after a few hours of wearing it in the field, which you can't do if you just try it on at home. Personally I like snaps/straps too, but then perhaps it would have added too much cost? My $.02...
  17. How long can depend on your skill & tools. What would take me 2 days could take an experienced armor builder 1/2 a day. I am OK at assembling, but suck at trim/fit. If these are easy to put together like FX was, then anyone with the basic skills like myself could probably do it in a day, as it's mostly just adjusting. Though I will say in any event having a second person to help hold parts on as you adjust certainly makes it easier. Do sign up on your local garrison boards - Cal is huge and there should be troopers everywhere.
  18. Edit: fixed thread title.
  19. There are a few other fan makers but they are laying low for now. FWIW, the guy behind StarFortress has an outstanding warrant in Texas for child molestation (you can google it), perhaps why he fled the US. In any event, a good reason not to buy from him even regardless.
  20. I've moved this to the sale thread. I'll leave it up to the DL on whether he wants to lock or allow pre-orders to continue. For the other 2 sale threads, people have taken money and not delivered on time. In one case, people are requesting refunds. This is why we normally don't allow pre-orders on FISD, as it has made for uneven seller experiences and our users have lost money to certain people like TE, who never shipped out items.
  21. Wow - thanks for sharing!
  22. Thanks for sharing - I can look at these all day Very subtle differences between the two, and it's great that people can love on the one that speaks to them.
  23. Is that a TIP or HOWTO post I sense in the near future ;-)
  24. So to be clear, are you offering them for sale? If so I'd like to move this to the For Sale area. Also, items in our for sale area have to be in hand. There have already been 2 blaster runs that have gone south because they violated that policy, we will assuredly avoid another.
