  1. EDIT: Moved to TIPS/HOWTO area, updated title.
  2. Roger that brother! The Spec Ops detachment at----------- is a great group of guys and gals. TX and TK compliment each other really well, and I also encourage each and every one of you to pay a visit and say "hi" at some point. Better together is what I say
  3. Wow, getting armor to fit right on a guy your size is pretty tricky but you did a fine job. For the thighs while you could trim them to get them shaped correctly at the bottom, I'd like to suggest as well that down the line you check out the ones from RT, as there is I believe less cut away on the sides, which will cover more black. I have to hand it to you on the butt plate - this gives many fits and the way you adjusted it came out great. LOL on the bucket btw - always good to have a sense of humor
  4. Actually that's a pretty cool idea. I'll ping Kev and see what he says - either SpecOps has it's own program, or we can - if SpecOps is OK with it - have a parallel program here for TX's.
  5. Pro'lly not any of the new folks, but some divisions are old and some people carry those chips. Most of the arguments are long forgotten...but it is mindful of how easy friendly rivalries can be mis-construed.
  6. A well done black hole trooper looks really tight. You can get kits via Deckerd on this site. Note that the TX is typically 100% FX and people haven't been as conscientious about fit/trimming or upgrading helmets as TK's/TD's have been. Then again, TK's in the 501st overall have lagged behind other costumes too in terms of quality up until recently ;-) SpecOps Det is actually a great group of guys too - so no TX bashing folks.
  7. Just be aware that as much as FX is loved, it is the least accurate of the accepted armors out there, and down the line some do feel the need to upgrade parts or the entire suit. Then again, others don't. But at least you go in knowing, and that's what really matters, not what you end up getting.
  8. And I'm 6'0" 180lbs. Again, it's pretty assured it would fit you fine, it all comes down to price vs. accuracy. Also, the FX kit is really only glaring in the chest and thighs. Trim them right and only us fellow geeks can tell the diff. It can certainly be made into a good suit - a good number of Elite are using FX from the neck down.
  9. It will be a very long while before the FX suit is deemed unacceptable. It will happen some day, but I'm guessing it will be (my wild an impolite person guess) five years before enough folks are migrated to more accurate armor to make this something worth considering. There's a looooong way to go between now and then.
  10. Not sure about "swimming", but most people have to shim/trim depending on their exact body type. Unless you're on a tight budget, I'd not recommend FX and get something more accurate and closer to your build, such as AP or TE2, though both require trimming. If you're dead set on FX it should fit you OK - smaller folks have made it work for sure. Just be very careful who you order FX from - there are a lot of shady dealers out there.
  11. I found this link helpful: http://www.501st.com/members/displayUnits.cfm#garrisons GWL: Jeff Lester (TD 6873) email: [email protected] profile: http://www.501st.com/members/displaymember...cfm?userID=1262
  12. You can - just send an email to your GWL. If they don't update it in a timely manner than he's falling down on the job.
  13. Absolutely, this is very high on the list of to-dos for myself & Scott M. (who will need to get all new pix to support this). Also, with the new design it will make it much easier for me to add new folks, so it's in my best interest to make it happen as well.
  14. Static burst is kinda cool, but none of the troopers IIRC had one in ANH so it's not really a requirement. I don't recall it really being used until TROOPS.
  15. Congrats - Elite status updated. Up to 19 Elite for FISD
  16. Fair enough, but it shows how good an FX suit can be made to look with a little work. Down the line I'd also trim up the shoulder bells a bit so that they don't overlap the biceps as much. But that's such a minor nit really, like I said the suit looks great on you.
  17. Outstanding! Really well done, excellent fit and some great details.
  18. Thanks Peter! RT is a great guy and I'm sure everyone's just as eager to see him up and running as he is
  19. All set Hal. Don't forget to report your GWL to Lord Vader for remediation training in how to post photos to the 501st site ;-) Cool action shot in your avatar btw
  20. Sweet find!
  21. No worries mate. For the record the point of Elite is not to get to 100% screen accuracy. The point of Elite is to help promote excellence in costuming. Thus while they are and will always be higher than Legion standards, the goal isn't to be unobtainable or 100% screen accurate. If you look at them now, they can be achieved by an afternoon of work and about $50-$100 investment in parts (perhaps even less?), presuming you have a base FX kit.
  22. Actually the Elite isn't meant to say that you must troop that way. Just like on MEPD where you need all the elements to get the status, but it's not uncommon to ditch the pack under certain circumstances, or walk around with an E-11 at times instead of a BFG. You can always use velcro to secure the lenses of a hero bucket. Put in bubbles for Elite quals and times when you're just doing a photo op or other occasion where you're not moving around much, swap in flat gray for everything else. As long as you can go back to bubble (e.g. if there was ever an Elite roll call) easily, you're good to go IMHO. Or, have more than one bucket (can you really have too many anyway)
  23. Agreed. I looked over the CRL for TX and aside from color it's pretty identical to TK's. If black hole troopers had come out today instead of years ago, they might have ended up here instead of there. TX's are as welcome here as anyone else who's armor's based off the TK.
  24. No worries Tray - it's all good. Nice to have you here - sweet bucket btw
  25. Tray - you're all set. No, without the page link I do nothing, just like the first post states Actually I don't need photos at all, just the 501st link as it allows me to compare email addresses, and it my guarantor that a requester is 100% 501st. Jonas - you have two accounts. I removed your newer one, your older (the one with a post history) is still on the books. LMK if you need a password/email reset.
