I'd get the dremel out and just trim as needed. I have to confess I'm very much biased against the current FX thighs. The backs aren't accurate anyway, so cutting to suit your needs will probably make them look better. My two credits anyway...

I'd recommend - again - using the search feature of this forum. You'll find more answers that way. -

Pix are worth a thousand words, my friend. -
Found this link on MEPD that compares RT vs. original ANH armor. A great side by side chart. ------------------

I guess it depends on what you mean by "best". Take a look in the blaster section and see what your options are might be a good place to start.

Stormtrooper Armor
Daetrin replied to Operation Overdrive's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
Some stormtroopers in the Legion do which they are allowed to at non-canon events, however it's not part of the costume definition and they shouldn't be wearing them in their Legion photos. That's a bad habit that was allowed for a time, but is strictly speaking shouldn't have been done. I watched the movies quite a bit and I never saw a single clean TK with a pauldron in any of the OT. -
Stormtrooper Armor

1. If you've done a ton of research, I'd presume you know who all the armor makers are, and where to find them? I'm just wondering why you're asking, but not specifying what type of suit your looking for. Also, did you talk to your local garrison yet, and were they helpful? 2. As you know, stormtroopers don't wear pauldrons, so there's no reason to buy one. 3. There is a new boot thread almost every week and this question has been answered at least 20 times. I really encourage you to use the search button, or just browse the appropriate category. 5 minutes of searching could save you 10 minutes of typing. 4. Undersuit - this also has been answered. In fact, if you look at the for sale area I bet you can find a very recent post on tops. 5. Let me state again what "were do I buy armor" threads are against policy. I'd rather not lock or delete posts, and would ask that you respect our forum's rules. -
I would say a well done costume of either types beats a less quality job of either type. My for eye, I think for just a few individuals and close up the Hero looks better, with lots of folks the stunt looks better. Funny that's how it's on film as well, but maybe that's where my eye was trained.

Yup. Not to sound short, but all these questions have been answered many times over. I'd really encourage you to use the search feature, or to browse the site more.

And you know, for this reason maybe we should allow hand painted tears/traps on ESB? Again, the point of the Elite standards was not to achieve screen accuracy, the primary goal was to at least get some consistency and quality to the TK costume until the Legion catches up.

Be aware that most stuff on Ebay is dodgy. You should understand the exact lineage of what you're buying, and as noted his stuff seems off. Realize that most of these "options" you can buy direct yourself and these guys tend to resell, so you're paying for that service. Did I mention checking in with your local garrison

Assemble yourself or buy one that is assembled?
Daetrin replied to a topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
The FX if bought from a credible reseller (e.g. not a recaster) is high quality armor. That said, it is the least accurate of the 501st accepted armors out there, though there are no plans to "retire" it any time soon. It is perhaps the easiest of all the makes to assemble yourself. I think most people would encourage anyone to build their first suit themselves. Some garrisons have frequent "armor parties" or other programs to help new people get started, others don't. Check with your local garrison. Never worry about destroying the armor. That was my fear too, but in truth it's easy to get replacement parts, and everyone's made mistakes. I like to joke that I converted my first suit into a sandtrooper to hide all the mistakes I made (which is true in many ways, actually). The hard part of paying someone to assemble your armor is not knowing what to ask, and no matter how good a job they do you'll need to do some tweaking, so eventually will have to do some basic trimming & strap making/adjusting on your own anyway. There is a reputable reseller of FX on these boards - check out the For Sale area under Deckard. There are many folks in the UK Garrison (which it sounds like your from) that troop in SDS armor, so that's a fantastic deal to get started if you're in the UK or Europe (else the falling dollar will kill you). I'd really suggest you get hooked up with the UKG - they're one of the best garrisons in the Legion, particularly with the stormtrooper armor, and can also help answer some specific questions with regards to what they troop in / experience, as most of the SDS armor worn in the 501st is worn there AFAIK. -
Sorry, my way of saying "this could change". A few years ago everyone had plastic or perhaps leather belts. Now we know they're canvas and that's what people are moving too. Until last week the common knowledge was that the ESB traps/tears were much bluer than ANH, now it seems they were the same are very close. See Smitty's post above re: "info we have so far"
-
You bring up an excellent point - we'll certainly have to revisit our assumptions about ESB buckets pretty soon. I think blue will have to be grandfathered and gray accepted given the new info. Not sure about the hand painting though - will depend on what turns up tomorrow perhaps.
