The goal of Elite & the CRL is not prop recreation, and not to capture flaws. The color variations, cracks, etc. are not intentional and are just a result of the technology back then, and the budget.
I think the goal should be uniform whiteness. I had at one point three different colors of white on my suit, and hated it so much I had the whole thing repainted. Worth every penny.
Now, if you want to do prop recreation that's totally cool too, but if it's too film accurate to the point that it looks bad close up, you may have issues with it being accepted.
Lastly - I think small amounts of wear is acceptable. In fact, some prefer a few scuffs here and there.
