  1. Ideally it's white, but black would work as well. The standards don't really call it out either way, e.g. you can pass with black but white is encouraged.
  2. Christaan. EIB #85, and one of the few ESB EIB. Note with your updated status the NCO jacuzzi is now accessible via the blast doors. First pint is on me
  3. Down to 15 - we can still do this!
  4. Waiting on word from Terrell, but at least I got your membership upgraded.
  5. My understanding is because HIPS can be done with an inexpensive set up and also is very forgiving esp. to people new to the hobby. ABS is very finicky to work with and requires a serious upgrade in equipment. Also, while a lot of people like ABS as a final material for armor it's easier to form and build HIPS. Heck, even I've done that.
  6. What - no more comments on the build? That's what this thread is about - all others please use the exit door (e.g. new Matt thread) if you want to discuss issues regarding the maker.
  7. Thanks for making such a great build thread Christaan. It's great to see these come to together and it's clear you thought things out. The end result is fantastic. Can't wait to see the TKID & EIB application. We should probably sticky this as well
  8. LOL - if I had a dollar for every time Matt said that in public or private. Also, let's not forget how many times he's "selling his molds and getting out of the business". I used to get angry about it, now I realize this is just who Matt is. Once you understand that, it's easier to just ignore.
  9. This is why Matt was banned from FISD and can longer do business here. Now, I know others shill for Matt and we allow that. Why, because they are handling the transactions and do ensure that people get what they order. If they did not, they'd not be allowed to sell here either.
  10. Geez - it's been so many years I forgot, perhaps a month? Couldn't have been bad - I ordered a second a year later.
  11. For normal people yes. But Steve Sansweet - a top LFL employee - also stated that the 501st can make armor for their own personal use. It may seem unfair to some, but the reality is that Uncle George gets a lot of free, good publicity out of the 501st and influences the club's behavior. In return, we're thrown a bone. Yes, we (as 501st) get a benefit, but for those of you not in the 501st realize we pay a price too. The fact that we are a club, and you have to abide by club rules. And, LFL influence as well. Not for everyone for sure, and some people who make armor have no interest at all in the 501st though they sure want us to spend $$ with them.
  12. You know, instead of email why not just register on their local boards first? Everyone can see a post of your submission pictures. And I can guarantee that your GML checks their garrison boards regularly.
  13. It was the first neck seal I've ever owned, and I have it to this day. Love it.
  14. Definitely hit the GML - helping new members is one of their primary functions (said as a former GML).
  15. Sooner or later the truth will come out - it always does. That's when the real questions will start.
  16. Actually I'm thinking if you're going to stay fem then the customs are awesome and you'll rock it well. If you want to go full board FISD stormtrooper, you should be able to get some specific parts (chest, back, ab, butt) and new boots (those won't work). You can get FX parts from Deckard on these boards, but you may also want to consider AP parts as they'll be smaller to start with.
  17. It depends as said on your GML. When I was GML I tried to process all requests in 24 hours. Some costumes I was not familiar with took more time as I had to ramp up on their requirements, but never beyond a few days. Once the GML approves it's immediate, unless it's EU/SL which is LMO approval only.
  18. There is a good discussion when George and the prop guy were in Tunisia and George asked how he'd be able to tell them apart rank-wise, and the prop guy gets these chest protectors. From there, Uncle George just put in the scenes whatever looked cool to him visually. Remember this was back in the 70's when it was just one movie and no one thought about this for "realistic" effect like they do nowawadays, which is why officer ranks are all jumbled (e.g. no consistency in the movies). Take all the "stuff" written later with a grain of salt. In the end it's a costume and you should wear whatever you like. Pauldrons on stormtroopers is just not really supported or advised outside of cons, etc. First is the fact that in three of the OT movies we see not a single one with a pauldron, even though the Tatooine scenes were shot first. If pauldrons were intended on clean TK's, surely they would have been present for the rest of the three films. Secondly, part of being a stormtrooper and the fear they inspire is *uniformity*, just like the Spartans used identical armor/helmets to strike fear in their opponents, as seeing a homogenous wave of violence coming at you made is seem more than human (as all humans are unique). So by adding a pauldron to the stormtrooper you're breaking away from the core of their essence. Lastly some people wear them to set themselves apart from other TK's. I'll argue that there are a ton of canon ways to do that - one is going EIB when they do not. Another is picking another version such as ANH Hero, ESB, or ROTJ. You can also sport accessories, etc. that are all canon. So I'm pretty confused when people put a pauldron on a TK. If you really want to stand out, why not sport a costume that's intended to do so, such as a sandtrooper, clone commander, etc.
  19. You've done so much for so many. Being a single parent is *hard* work and should indeed be your #1 priority. Be proud of what you've done
  20. www.clonetroopers.net A heat gun could be your friend too.
  21. You can PM Deckard here as he is the same as tupperware. He is legit FX because many of us have confirmed that he is a legit source. If he were not, do you really think we'd let him sell here?
  22. RT is symmetrical, as is FX.
  23. That's the best single piece of advice, ever. No matter what you buy, the hobby progresses. State of the art this year will be ho-hum a few years later (with *very* few exceptions). Also, whatever you buy will get beat up over the years anyway if you troop. So love your armor, have fun with it. But always realize that it won't be your last set of armor either.
  24. I'm pretty intrigued by the Hero ESB helmet and wonder if there are any other pix/caps. Would be a neat variation, and another must have for me at least
  25. Yup. And when you get 501st membership you get more. 501st member + supporter more still. C'mon Joe - at 250+ posts your armor should be done by now.
