  10. Craig, mate, this says it all. “I’m a noob, but I think that you’re a bit of an an impolite person so I’ll just stir the pot a bitâ€. Nice to see that you’re bringing that flair for subtlety that we’ve come to love over from the UKG. Mike and Steve, great comments guys, you both nailed it for me The bottom line is if people want to share then BRILLIANT!, and if they don’t?, well that’s their prerogative, for what ever reason they may have. It doesn’t mean just because they DON’T we have to form a mob, grab the burning torches and string the poor sod up. Yes, sharing information is great and we’ve all benefited from it no matter what the subject is but you’ve got to respect peoples decision not to and say “Hey-Ho!†and just move on and pursue the answer to the questions yourself. When Paul very first posted his thread up about the boots I never once thought that he was ‘Lording it up’ and sitting at his keyboard singing merrily to himself in a rather smug fashion “I know something that you don’t know Doo-Darh Doo-Darh! My impression was that he was inviting us to share in his excitement and triumph of finding something that he as spent years painstakingly searching for and had finally found. Its obvious that it didn’t come across that way to everyone or we wouldn’t be discussing it now. The knowledge and information shared between all of us over the years as been firnorminal when you think about it. And people like Paul-TM and Matt-T* (whether you like him or not) have been invaluable and helped advance our understanding of the thing we love in so many ways. Yes I get and understand how the smugness and superior stand point of someone like Gino wound us all up, and I felt like killing him from time to time, but even HE in a small way helped us to get to where we are now. As a side note, if anyone wants to compare Pauls ‘so-called’ attitude to ‘sharing’ with Gino and so forth, I suggest that you take a look at some of old threads on this and many other forums and see that they are a million miles apart and nothing could be further from the truth. To all those who share, thank you for your gracious generosity and for those who don’t , it may take longer but the truth will always out, what ever that may be. Peace, out
  11. Kirby I know Jesse makes some sweet clips,....but why not have a go yourself mate They are really easy to make and we've got a fanatastic tutorial in the Academy by Pete - Stukatrooper which takes you through it step by step. Check it out and give it a go
  12. Orrrrr you could go that little bit further and get yourself a Rom FX and sound even more like a trooper with a nice bit of static burst http://www.romfx.com/ In my opinion the best out there
  13. Craig As long as you meet the full requirements for all the elements of your armour I can see no reason why not mate. Here’s a quick guide for ANH holster placement that may help. To ensure that you have covered off all the requirements, take a quick look at our previous EIB submissions as well as studying the different elements of the real on screen guys. If I remember right you have an FX, so you may want to take a look at Paul – Daetrin thread outlining some of the changes needed to apply to an FX for EIB standards. ---- Hope this helps mate
  14. Does that mean I can have those size 8's then.....please, please, pleeeeeeeeese! Brilliant find mate, I'm really pleased for ya 'coz I know how long and hard you've been hunting these Bad Boys down.
  15. ....He's Back in the saddle again,...Back in the saddle again Now, this is something that I'm REEEEELY looking forward to
  16. Rob I wouldn’t use it for a permanent solution to put your armour together mate if you want to troop in it, it would prise apart eventually because of the stresses and strains of moving around. I think you could get away with it on a mannequin, although you would have the 1mm profile gap as you mentioned. A couple of people I know do use similar tape (No Nails Heavy Duty) when building armour as aid to the finale build. Basically they make up back and front finishing strips for the forearms, biceps, thighs and shins. They tape the back / inside finishing strip in place on all the pieces and then use the normal method of E6000 the strips to the fronts / outsides. In a strange way it can speed things up if you go down the double strip route as you only have the drying time for the outside ones so you can move on with the build. When gluing mate you really don’t need a hell of a lot, just a nice smear will do it. Get your self a few of those plastic craft glue spreaders like the ones you used to in school . Make sure you’ve sanded down the surface areas that are going to be stuck together. Then spread a layer over each of the areas and let them sit for a few minutes because you want to use the glue in the same way you would with any other contact adhesive. Once you have them in place then just clamp / earth magnet / tape them down and wait for them to dry (12 hours to handle, 24 hours to fully cure) Give it a go mate, start off with the small parts and work your way up so that you get a feel of things and your confidence will grow. When your armour arrives give me a shout and I’ll help with anything that you’re not sure about, or even better, if you’re near London you could bring it to one of our armour parties and we could tear into it one weekend.
  17. John As I said, they may well be a found part but I think that the very nature of their construction may well limit this because they seem so bloody thin to use any where else As for the ones on the Snowy, that was three years later and it was a new costume which was probably made by a completely different bunch of guys (and girls ) and they may have used the stormy suits as a point of reference and used some similar ones that were available over the counter One of the things that's always bugged me is that we have none to very little documntation about the stormtrooper costume, and where we have its kindaa flakey. Check out Molo's notes that were made in '79 AFTER ANH but around the time of ESB. Its like he's trying to remember how it was set up and just filling in the gaps and added to it where he can't
  18. John Dan’s right. definitely the same principle mate. Footman loops are, and have been, used in a myriad of ways with the most common being cars, boats, carriages and of course military vehicles. The ones used on the armour were pretty thin but strong wire so would perhaps limit the possibility that they were commercial made or a found part, that’s not to say that they wasn’t, it just narrows the field down for an ‘off the shelf’ part and what it may have been manufacture for. It wouldn’t have been too hard for a little machine shop or even the studio work shop / prop department to knock these up for the suits because they would’ve had the right tools in hand to accommodate the amount required. Here’s some pic’s showing the strapping bars on the suits
  19. I think it was a little bit of forward planning by uncle George and the screen writers. Think about it, no other TK as a comms unit or a grappling hook,...why? <_< ------------ Beeeeee-cozzzz, Luke needed the comms unit in the trash compacter to contact C3PO .....annnnd he also needed something to do his best Douglas Fairbanks impression with when he shot the bridge controls out....cue the RATHER smart but handy hook. 8) Simple really,.....come on guys keep up!!
  20. Congratulations matey Quality posts, from a quality guy
  21. Eric The TD / O2 cannister just wouldn't have fitted on the belt along with the grappling hook box mate. There just wasn't enough room as you can see from the back of the poor unsuspecting trooper that he managed to steal it from ----------
  22. Steve 501st status is all sorted now mon ami Great looking set up you have there and I can't wait to you toting one of Mason's Bad Boy Bazookas
  23. Joe Here's a quick crib sheet that I come up with a while ago to show the simple little changes betwean the two Hope this helps mate
  24. Noel This is how THIS particular suit (that was found in the Lucas Archives) was strapped mate. Its pretty obvious that its not the generic / normal original set up that we find on most of the suits. There could be many reasons for that such as break-fix / running repairs or possible specific requirements for the stunt guys such as additional padding and what not. You have to remember mate that they re-used ANH suits for ESB so a good few of them would be beautifully beaten and battered by the time filming started. I’d also think that for any close up work they would shy away from anything that wouldn’t be aesthetically pleasing in their view and prefer to go for some clean and simple shiney white examples.
