  1. As already mentioned in this thread a lot of the helmets had the trim cut straight on the end as you can see in these references so either is acceptable
  2. If you do shorten your cod the chances are your not going to be able to trim very much out before it's going to look weird under the belt, the V section wouldn't be very wide. Some with issues in height have taken some material off their chest and back sections, here are a few builds which may help. https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/38842-fragarocks-rs-stunt-build-not-to-scale/ https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/38416-crickets-rs-stunt-build-for-the-vertically-challenged/ But while doing a quick search I also found Sha Sha's build, she did actually cut her cod so you may get away with it. https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/42868-sha-shas-wtf-anh-stunt-build-complete/
  3. Confirming it's not an alpha/beta kit, the one shown has updated pieces that where definitely not in the early sets. Remember not everyone who has purchased are members, many are from the public, some may also be recruits who have not yet joined some of the FB groups or FISD. Just because they're not posted on FB doesn't mean there aren't more out there. There seems no rules with Anovos with shipping, I ordered my beta then a friend I had told about the beta run ordered his a few weeks later, months went by and he received his kit while mine took another 3 weeks I asked why and never got a clear answer only "it's how it left the shipping/sorting facility"
  4. I wouldn't say there has been naysayers dead set against it, people here offer advise on what we know and to date there aren't very many happy people who have 3D printed armor By all means print away and I hope it works out for you but for the majority of costumers who want a durable kit that needs little prep work, which can be 501st approved and trooped in without worry of failing I'll always advise plastic or fibreglass, whether 3D printing is the future or not.
  5. I'm not an expert but I do have an beta Anovos kit, I've not had one of the new kits in my hands yet to check the differences but if Anovos are shipping these kits as TLJ then I'd gather that is what they would be easier to be approved as. At the moment there aren't many difference in the CRL's between TFA and TLJ, helmet being the obvious main difference, with both CRL's it's acceptable to use the TFA cod piece, but that being said this may change, when the CRL's had been made there wasn't an armor maker offering a TLJ cod but for higher levels a TLJ version was needed so some made their own as did I. So could you use a TLJ cod for TFA?, perhaps I don't think many GML's would pick that but I would suggest it would be noticed for higher level clearance. If you really want to get picky there are quite a few minor differences in the versions so it just depends on what will be reviewed and changed in the future, CRL's are on this years calendar for a review so I'd keep an eye on the boards as well as check the CRL's while building
  6. Hello and welcome aboard. KB did have a change in location at one stage but I'm pretty sure he's back up and running (although I'm not frequent on FB). Good luck and looking forward to the progress.
  7. Nice work, a couple of extra photos the DO's like are: Inside and outside close up rivets thigh ammo strip Sides and front close up sniper plate attachment. Close up of the teeth area, be aware paint shouldn't leave the teeth and be on the gums. Close up of the side ab/back rivets. A couple of accuracy adjustments: Hovi/mic tips mesh on Anovos helmets are too fine Larger Ab plate could be trimmed a little more and lose the rounded edges of the smaller plate Just a note on your blaster, T tracks and main handle shouldn't have weathering, these where plastic and painted either gloss or satin black. Good luck with approval
  8. Congratulations trooper and welcome to the ranks
  9. Managed to find some pretty nice ones on eBay when I was building a couple of blasters, think they where $8
  10. I use cotton glove inners with plastic gloves, hottest troop so far was 39 deg C and really wasn't an issue, just swapped out the cotton inners a few more times during the troop.
  11. It can be done it's just a bit of work, a sheet of abs plastic, some heat, a little bondo and your on your way. I've been hoping that some of the makers of armor would start offering both types of cods, I had to make my own TLJ version for higher level approval. If I had someone local with a vac former I'd go the extra mile and make this one into a plug and start making some lighter ones.
  12. Congratulations trooper and welcome to the EI ranks. With plastic gloves I wear cotton inners, they work great and soak up the sweat, have quite a few pairs as I normally change them at a troop when ever we take a break, nice to go out with dry hands again. Once again well done, looking forward to seeing you at centurion
  13. Most of us use an online photo host, Imgur is a good one, once you upload your photos there you can select the "direct link" or just copy the image directly here into your post, multiple images can be added this way. Looking forward to the progress
  14. "Can someone lift up my thighs I can't bend my knees"
  15. Hello and welcome I've not heard a good comments about 850 armor, only a few not so nice stories. KB does a plastic kit, also Anovos have just started shipping there pre orders kits, who knows how much longer they will be to fulfil. You are better staying with known sellers or it's buyers beware. Have a look through the build sections and I'm sure you'll get a lot of info there, good luck.
  16. Exactly as I've been saying since initial images of the kits had been posted, as long as those wishing 501st approval are informed they do need some work and paint
  17. Well you could but Anovos is made from plastic, it's a little bit more durable than fibreglass or 3D printed material, also a higher level of accuracy and lighter than other makers kits. It comes down to a personal choice and others have already purchased from other vendors and been very happy (even though some of those are still waiting for their Anovos kits to arrived )
  18. Correct and apart from the resin pieces which need painting the armor can be assemble without paint, it just can't be 501st approved going on current CRL's It's one of the questions I have pestered Anovos about over the last few years, "exactly how is the kit changed so it doesn't need paint as the alpha and beta kits did" and the same reply "they can be assemble without paint"
  19. Nice work on the painting, trim those ears a little and you'll look so much better, but if not you may be ok for basic approval, dependant on your GML (garrison membership liaison)
  20. As Dan said all is looking good, things can move a little once you start strapping. I made a couple of strips of elastic with evenly spaced snaps so I can trial and adjust widths of the strapping
  21. I'll add a couple of things to Ben's list: Undersuit (run av cable for blaster Microphone Neck seal Harness ThighsBootsShins Plug cables into aker and switch on Body (I keep this together clamshell style and put it all on at once) Belt/detonatorShoulders/bicepsForearmsGlove liners and Gloves Helmet
  22. As you have done it's a great idea to use a plug/template to use as a guide when forming, for smaller areas I use a couple of blocks of wood one on either side which I can hold together once the plastic is headed, great for edges too. Nice work
  23. Is it the do it yourself pipe kit or full resin kit? the do it yourself is missing a few items but the full resin should be fine for 501st approval
