  1. Is the foam available at most craft stores and fabric stores (the big green stuff) good density? If not, any recommendations on sourcing? I wanna try the foam for my next helmet.

    Confused

The 2 biggest things to avoid... 1. Ebay 2. Rubies Signing up here was a great step in the right direction, all the answers you seek are here
  3. I started out with velcro, for many of the reasons listed above, and now I'm currently in the process of replacing all that velcro with snaps. Simply put, the velcro, even the Industrial Strength just doesn't hold as well, I was constantly having pieces pop loose. So far the snaps have been working better, no issues on last night's troop. Snaps can be adjustable too, if your strapping is too long, simply put another snap in at a shorter length.
  4. What about the boots? I'll buy the clothes being hidden, under the armor or in Chewie's man-purse, but where were the boots?
  5. "You are now a part of the tribe" Looks good.
  6. Relaxing after a bit of a hectic and tiring week. Relaxing with my wife, we have some Chinese Take-out, random reruns on TV, and maybe getting a few last little bits to finish my armor mods.
  7. I just redid my arms to remove the velcro (which doesn't hold up very well, was always popping loose) and I did pretty much FBJ described. I put the snap into the plastic and just used a ridiculous amount of E6000, clamped it and left it alone for 24 hours. So far, test fits are good, real test is on Monday.
  8. ----- This should have most of the answers you seek
  9. Congratulations!

    Lunch!

Went to a Luncheon today and had some sub-par Chicken Cordon Bleu. Would've rather had my usual Peanut Butter & Jelly, Doritos and a Nutty Bar. What can I say, I'm a health nut.
  11. Pretty laid back dress code at my work, nothing dirty, offensive or hole-y. Usually it's a black T-shirt (LOTS of Star wars shirts, surprise, surprise) and some kind of slacks, khakis or jeans.
  12. Blue painter's tape (or similar) helps for getting pieces to hold together until you learn how to grow a 3rd hand That way you can line up pieces, do test fits, etc. before you cut to much.
  13. Didn't see that this topic was on here twice. This was originally in the other thread, but this one seems more popular.. Both are good sets of armor. FX is good if you are a larger trooper. ATA draws from the more screen accurate build, however if you are a larger sized trooper you might have to do more shimming. FX is a bit more durable being made from ABS, but that's not to say that ATA is fragile, it's made from HIPS (I believe), so no playing football in your suit. ATA might be a more complicated build than FX, and involve painting. A lot of it comes down to what looks better to you, what particular skill sets you might have, etc. That's to say it all comes down to you and your personal preference.
  14. Sorry, didn't see that this topic was on here twice. Copied reply to other thread. Please delete this. Thanks.
  15. Good luck on everything Smitty. Darth Real Life can be a difficult foe. Don't worry, we will always be here for ya.
  16. I'd say it's easier when it's apart
  17. Quoted for truth! I rushed too much in a few steps on a helmet build and I'm currently paying the price.
  18. That's the one! Thanks!
  19. The search feature is your friend. --------- There is a proper tutorial on here, but in my quickie search I wasn't able to find it.
  20. I'd recommend going for any of the removable methods. I riveted mine, and now with a smaller armor tub, I'm wishing my holster was removable.
  21. Glad to see you made your way over here Gina. For wiping excess gunk and paint off my armor I've had good luck with basic nail polish remover, again making sure to get the NON-Acetone version. We finally got some more armor on this side of the state, maybe we can get a Western VA armor party at some point.
  22. I'm not sure about how the shipping would work, but I found lots of sites selling the Nomex gloves. I think there was someone selling them on here, as well as most military surplus sites.
  23. The masters have spoken, with far better advice than I could ever give. Might want to rotate your thighs to have the seam more towards the center. Nice to see a fellow Metallica trooper.
  24. With the gloves, try to avoid gloves that have the velcro or strapping at the wrist, or gloves that hit at the wrist. They pop out at the wrist and it's really hard to keep your sleeve tucked in, and your wrist is frequently showing.
