Draft CRL for the TK Commander - 501st base stds
Murray1134 replied to Daetrin's topic in Stormtrooper Commander
Sounds good, however I think the 501st standards should include the 2 stripes on the thigh piece. The Hasbro figure does have these. -
Tori and Kari from the show are HM and FotL. Tori, Adam and Grant from the show used to work for ILM, Grant was an R2 operator and Adam can be seen in the AOTC making of on the DVD building the model of Tipoca City.

Saw one of them on Headline News today during there coverage of Comic Con.

Why paint the inside of the bucket black?
Murray1134 replied to Velcro's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
I sprayed the inside of mine because it seemed like the plastic was a little thin and I was worried about light spilling thru. -
Saw this picture on Twitter and thought it was too great not to share. Adam Savage showing off his TK armor http://twitpic.com/bgmpv

great work! Amazing photos! I'm insanely jealous that you got hands on with those great helmets.

Looks very nice. What material are they, plastic or latex?

If you really knew what you were doing, I think an assembly could be done in a weekend. However, I wouldn't recommend this, esp. not with your first suit. E6000 is great great stuff, by far the easiest to use and most reliable glue I've used. I've gone thru 3 different kinds of glues in my suit, and it's been the best by far. But, yes allow 24 hours for dry time. Take your time, get it to the best possible fit you can. Also, realize that everytime you wear the suit, you are going to want to modify or change something. I'm still a bit of a newbie in this whole arena (been 501st for a year now with 5 troops). In just that year since my approval, I've massively redone my thighs, modified ab plate, redone my belt, and now I'm redoing the whole strapping setup for my arms. It's just like working on a car or a house, you are never truly finished. Take your time, have fun, take lots of pictures!

My MRCE status post modifications

How did you manage to get the ears off? -
Lucas was asked about using 501st as extras in the upcoming Live Action show.

choices of "ready to wear" helmet
Murray1134 replied to Richard Yeoh's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
For ready to wear helmets commercially available, there may still be some of the MRLE/eFx buckets floating around still online. Expect to pay $400 plus for it. The MRCE is a good bucket to practice on, that's what I've been doing on mine. It's the whole "learn by doing" thing. If you do some research, talk to the armor makers, some may have options for selling completed helmets. -
TK-Recruits ATA Armor Build[*ATA]
Murray1134 replied to TK-Recruit's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Hit up your local Wal-Mart or Jo-Ann Fabrics type of store, pick up some E-6000, Industrial Velcro, Industrial Snaps (depending on the set, you might need a hammer), nylon webbing and/or elastic. That's a good place to start. -
It is difficult to have someone who could add so much to the community bring this upon himself, but just like in the attached screen shot above, he did bring it upon himself. I don't envy the hard choices you've had to make in the past, Paul, but these kind of things must be done to insure the community as a whole is improved.

I finally got around to modding my thermal det tube so I can store my glasses and a few extra things in it. Since I can't wear my glasses in anything but my FX helmet. I have one end of the tube sealed, but I can't seem to come up with a good option for keeping the other end shut. I've left it like this all along because I knew one day I would final remember to do the mod. It stays shut on it's own, pretty good. However, one good bump (or a child's hands) could easily pull it open. Any good recommendations for closing it up, but also making it easy enough to open back up when suited up?

Helmet Bags - showoff with helmets
Murray1134 replied to Daetrin's topic in Boots, Soft Parts, and other Accessories
Still just my FX helmet, but that problem is being worked on. It looks to be the same bag that Daetrin uses. Found at a local motorcycle shop for about $15. ---------- -
Start with what you know, and then as it grows you can incorporate more.

Happy Birthday FISD! Thank you to all those who have helped to build and maintain this site, and to make it into the community we all love and enjoy today. Where would we be without FISD? We'd all have FX buckets and be "wasting" all our time with loved ones and families

I know the feeling. I can't really watch ROTJ anymore because I'm still just dumbstruck by how weird the troopers look.
-
Looks good. That's FX right? I'd talk to VaderDave for a set of ab buttons (if you haven't already). Only suggestion I would say is to lower your belt just a tad, you're covering your bottom row of ab buttons.

Enjoying my 3 day weekend, sadly no July 4th troops it seems. Tonight it's a BBQ with the wife's family and at some point working more on the helmet. Hope everyone has a good Fourth.. and our international friends have a good weekend.

Draft CRL for the TK Commander - 501st base stds
Murray1134 replied to Daetrin's topic in Stormtrooper Commander
I don't have a very good setup for taking screen caps, but the best place in the game I've seen for seeing the TK Commander up close is the level where you have escape from the medical bay (name escapes me at the moment). You have to fight several of them in the level and it's easy to wipe out the other enemies and get them cornered so you can get some close looks at them. -
I found some bankers clasp (the less accurate Staples version, but close enough for me) on amazon.com Just checked, looks like multiple sizes are available http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw?url=s...amp;x=0&y=0

It looks like we have 2 different points being discussed in this thread. 1. Armor comparision, sizing, difference in shaping, what is most accurate, etc. I think this would be a great idea to really show the similarities and differences to the different armors available. Although it should be noted that just because you're a bigger or smaller trooper doesn't mean you can or can't wear a particular armor. It just means you might need more shimming or trimming. Much of the fit comes in the construction. 2. Armor makers and there contact info. As silly as it sounds, the info should not be out in the open forum. Yes, the argument can be made that the info is readily available if you know where to look and if LFL wanted to hit them with C&D they could within 5 minutes of searching. That's not the point, LFL is only out to stop those who advertise openly it seems (like the AA/SDS Case). LFL is well aware of everyone and knows where we get the armor from, they let us play as long as it's by there rules. It seems to me that if we encouraged the newer people to contact the detachment staff that would be the best way to get the info out there, but not have it be in the open forum for all to see and to violate LFL's rules.

Great Work! I'll think of you next time I'm complaining about driving 2 hours to troop.

Darth Stantz? Looks great! I just finished the Ghostbusters game, it would be a lot of fun to do a GB costume. Not sure about that proton pack though..
