  1. WOO! WHO FAN! I hate jello so much that it could be what fuels the passion that gives me Force powers. I'm #21 in hockey too! But I stopped using 21 as a name-ender because it's too common and I am late to the game. "hockeygoon21"... not. Vodka is evil. Closest I have ever been to being piss drunk is at a hockey tournament, had two pitchers of v-spiked margaritas before the party started, nearly threw myself over the railing onto the ice at someone else's game, and then went bowling. Oh yes, best bowling score ever. I also acquired many, many Sharpie drawings on my abdomen. "The railing is your friend." <-- I should not be admitting that.
  2. Lookin good, Kirstin! You are right to trim bottom of the shins. And it is normal to worry Vern is right that you'll want to butt-join and use a cover strip. So where you have overlap, that ALL disappears and then you'll cover it with a nice pretty strip. You are not alone, I'm just up the street! Well, up the 405. I have some free time this week so depending on your work schedule I could come to you and help you out. If you WANT to be alone, well that's different hehe Keep rolling! Wooo!
  3. Awesome, Jason! Fast build, too! If you find your cod separates from your ab a lot when you are trooping, here's an idea. First try some serious strapping in there to hold it where you want it fixed to the ab. (I have a little gap that my belt covers, but if it goes lower it pops outside the belt!... so...) Second would be a hard "tab" which will prevent it popping out at all... fixed to the cod and sitting loose or velcro'd inside the ab. But if you find you've fixed it permanently and it's all good, wooohoo!
  4. Find a local prop-shop and volunteer for a month? Everywhere movies are made (which is everywhere) there are often prop shops (and other suppliers of film equipment). My husband did that for almost a year after college (vacuum forming, too!) though he is no help to me whatsoever. Also there are both tutorials and not-too-expensive trial-size-portions of tons of stuff - foam, resin, life-casting, algenates, etc. - at http://www.reynoldsam.com/
  5. To all my fellow 501st and TKs in NYC, I will be there for a very short trip July 9. Happy to get together for brunch, earlyish lunch, or coffee in the city that Monday morning, though I know people will be working most likely... if not I'll just be boot shopping all day! (It's true. Nowhere is safe!)
  6. I was trying to stay out of this but since I got pinched AND IT DREW BLOOD last weekend... they literally flew from two sides of the table... I wouldn't let any of these magnets near anyone under the age of 38.
  7. Yeah I think the top ones. I have never seen those bottom ones before. How's it coming, Derek? What does your week look like next week? Maybe I can come down to your neck of the woods on Thursday, unless you work.
  8. Shin velcro - you mean to close the backs of the calves? That's a very tricky thing indeed. Is it the velcro coming off the plastic? The hook & loop is always stronger than the adhesive. I bought special Velcro brand adhesive that is supposed to make that bond extra super secure. So far this has worked. Or is it the velcro isn't holding together - the hooks & loops aren't staying hooked? Make sure you have it all lined up correctly. My two AP pieces aren't flush to each other, so they only actually grip in 2-3 small places, but it manages to hold. Make sure there's as much surface area touching as possible. Last resort: try the bra hook + elastic enclosure option. On my clone armor I have to clamshell the shin/calves (you know, the ones I cut too small to begin with lol) ... but again it's not flush, so I'm going to make "tabs" and that is where the velcro will be instead of trying to make it connect all over. Just another thought.
  9. This was a confusion point for me too. Fortunately I found enough pics to realize it sits on top, not IN. Mine is *barely* long enough now, but still works. I thought about goo to fill the microscopic gap at the bottom but haven't yet. Ultimately what I did is fill in the back with a "stack" of ABS squares from scrap ABS and make a kind of mushroom that glues to the back of the ab plate and the inside of the hole and holds it flush at the edges. But if it's way too short now replacement is probably your best bet.
  10. I use a very thin black fabric. Breathes very well and fully dark. It's not unlike the stuff you'd use for a wedding veil but a bit tighter weave.
  11. My TK lens is still taped in with cloth hockey tape (I couldn't find my gaffer's tape). That works and I'm too lazy to do anything else right now, especially since it's my third "fix." (My Clone lens I glued in with a dab or two of e6000. That seems to be working fine, too.)
  12. Not expert but agreeing with Rob.
  13. Take care of yourself first! At least you have a "toy/project" to work on Watch out for Earth magnets. During a discussion of dremmel terror at an armor party yesterday, two magnets leapt from either side of the table and smashed my finger. It drew blood!! You're probably not using those so watch out for flying cutting wheels!
  14. Almost perfect, chop off a little bottom corner of the cheek tube and GAME ON!!!! haha it's beautiful, now how do we get those Aloha Admin slackers to add it... (j/k)
  15. This is a fun thread, thanks, Jen!
  16. Maddie absolutely ROCKS that Foxy suit!!! I think she should keep it.
  17. Me too. Though if I were going to do it again, I probably wouldn't. When you ditch the FX you can turn it into a death trooper or something fun
  18. From the top photo it looks like a kind of cooking glove which is part chemical glove (fingers) and part fabric (under the plate). But from the one below it it looks like fabric all over. I'm just curious.
  19. We need a little death trooper smiley.
  20. My totally out of the blue uninformed guess is AP. It looks a lot like mine, except the vocodor goes all the way down...I don't think mine does that. So scratch that, and let the experts have at it! Where did you get it?
  21. You look fabulous! I especially dig the beret. Nice touch (Nice crotch shot, too.)
  22. Hmmmm. 187 lbs. is really slender for your height! If RT comes with more of the length than girth, i'd go for that. But if you are lacking in girth, you'll be trimming a lot. If the AP would be long enough for your legs and arms (my forearms seemed super long, and my shins) you could probably get away with that. Heck I'm 5'11 and I was 187 when I started... I had to make AP ab shims to fit me but I don't think you would. You're lanky like my brothers (6'7 and 6'4). If I had an unfinished kit I'd measure leg parts for you... maybe someone else can quickly...
  23. DAWG! Finally! Good progress! On your little square belt buttons and the rectangular ab button plate, I *think* you can trim a little more, closer to the edge of the edge, if you get my meaning. You are so gonna rock this suit.
