  1. It's probably something we ALL shouldn't know... about your hubby! j/k Aren't the undersuits supposed to be bio-waste recycling suits? Never stop to drop! I'll be sure not to suggest we call our fire team "Fire Team Gold."
  2. Thanks, Dad, for turning Mom's desire for a little princess into a sci-fi loving, blaster-wielding denizen of the galaxy!!!
  3. Can't someone decide where I should be stationed? I'm tired of traveling this planet.

    1. TK-Sixx

      TK-Sixx

I lived in Germany all my life and loved it.

  4. Congrats! Totally rocks! I was recently in a wedding where we trooped ahead of the party's procession. I think to be less subtle all your groomsmen should be in TKs. LOL! The limo idea is great... and have them stay for the reception. You can also sneak in some star wars and parody songs (Her name was Leia, she was a princess...) and maybe swap something small out or put small things in subtle places (TK helmet stickers on your bow ties)... just don't let her see it ahead of time so it's a surprise...
  5. Who has time for gaming? Heck, I got an email from my sad companions in SW:TOR last week about how they miss me.
  6. Just a friendly reminder from an endurance athlete and mountaineer: DO NOT UNDERHYDRATE. My best recommendation is to drink a LOT the day before, more than you feel is normal, and make sure it's all processed and out by the next morning before your troop, and one last little pit stop before you suit up. And then small frequent drinks during your troop when possible. Do not NOT drink. Drinking less doesn't make you urinate less, only makes your body pull more moisture from other sources and makes your kidneys work harder. Sorry, hope that's not too personal! As a woman, there is NO shift-to-left option.
  7. Aw snap! Totally cool! I have one of me as a hockey player.... where did I put that thing...
  8. Now that's a trooper helping troopers!!!
  9. Yeah I put a link to Bobojuice's tutorial in my build doc because it's A W E S O M E
  10. I can't say I'm offended by it, but it can get irritating if you infer the other person has the wrong idea altogether. At work, for example, they all know I'm an uber-nerd. Heck, that was my nickname in business school, too, from a professor, because I was in the gaming industry. Everyone seems to take it in stride, but the minute you talk about costuming, the "perception flag" goes up... So I refer to it as charity work all the time. I have a charity event tonight. It was a rough weekend of trooping for charity. We did a movie shoot for a really good cause. And I refer to costuming in general as crafting, and use analogies people will understand based on their own interests, like knitting or woodworking. I see this as a crafting hobby, not so much a costuming hobby. "Costumes" implies certain things, right? Try wordsmithing in advance. Honestly I think cosplay at cons is considered fairly acceptable, like painting your face and waving flags at a sporting event. People might think it's weird, but I think the guys who paint themselves are weird, and that's okay. But trooping for CHARITY, "bringing smiles to people's faces," and "sharing the love of star wars with those who need and appreciate it" is what it's really all about.
  11. You are taking advantage of my impulsivity to bankrupt me, I know it!
  12. I keep meaning to do this but I also keep forgetting - typical!
  13. *furiously taking notes* Sith Armor in SWTOR is pretty sweet, and I have that on my list to make/build/find/whatever... doesn't need to be canon to troop at informal events and cons Maybe it needs its own "club" ? Ten TOR Sith warriors and such would look dang scary standing next to each other.
  14. Nice! Very detailed! I had a lot of questions at the past couple of troops, and I have to say that having some kind of story in mind was very helpful to coming up with answers. "Which ship are you on?" (I work on Darth Vader's ship.) "How come you're here on Earth now?" (I have to make sure there are no rebel spies when Darth Vader comes to visit.) Then again... Question: "Why did you leave your home planet?" My answer: "It didn't have a Disneyland." (Actually that was my answer because he suggested it earlier, and I was playing along with his fantasy not my own. "Is there a Disneyland on your home planet?" - Note: I wasn't anywhere near Disneyland at the time.)
  15. You can pretty much fit any kit at that size, just would have to trim more or less. AP, being the only one I am really familiar with, is great for the slender guy (or gal). And we do have some threads just for the ladies, but it's not terribly different. I just asked another female TK how she was handling certain problem areas, and others have asked me... mostly the issue is when they are smaller than a small guy. Lucky me I'm 5'11.
  16. Armor party coming up! :)

  17. How did you know I love chasing the sloshed guys out the airlock? Great history, and good technique with the newsprint. I think I'll be using that on my clone. But not my shiny. DV would force-choke me if I did not meet "shiny" specs.
  18. Some people could probably fit in that 25gal thing, but I use a 50 and I'm lucky if I can close the lid. (Then again, we could go into the opinion/steroetype that i'm a girl and am over-packing... but that's not really the case here... that's my story and I'm stickin' to it.) Some guys fit their kids into a golf bag, so what do I know.
  19. I had buyer's remorse while waiting for my armor, after paying rather, um, quickly. I didn't even know what I was getting into, even though I'd spent about a month trawling this community. When it arrived, life changed. I became obsessed. Doing it yourself (even with zero skills) is an amazing reward. And then every time you try a piece on, you're giddy in heaven. I would wear my TK pretty much every day, even to work; I have tried to convince my husband to tolerate at least one weekly trip to the farmer's market, just to light up people's faces. Fortunately I'm in a garrison with a trillion troops, and I can't do them all due to family and other obligations, and sometimes we drive 3-4 hours to get to them. It's ALWAYS worth it. And lately I've seen a lot of smaller or remote garrisons or groups organizing their own fundraising events - http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=19385. Just get your garrison's permission and even invite others to join you. I'm going to see about organizing a "shoot a trooper" at my son's public school Halloween Carnival fundraiser this year, which pays for teachers aides and special programs that always get cut. No matter where you live or what you do, there are always charities around that you can help out in some way... maybe they just don't know this is an option and will do all the organizing themselves! It's kind of addicting.
  20. I'm always up for a squirrelly run for my northern friends! I don't call it "Squirrelly Smuggling Operations" for nothing. Not to mention those black Canadian squirrels are e NOR mous... what do you feed those things!?
  21. YAY! Good interest so far, very happy. Chris, check out the SCG site and post which day you'd prefer. I'm actually trying to encourage Derek NOT to finish by then... lol!
  22. Understandable! The main point is that you first want to size them (you know this). A lot of parts generally don't line up correctly, including thighs and greaves. So maybe look for as many solutions as you can in others' threads - but you're right, off the top of my head I can't think of anyone mentioning this either. I also did my thighs last, mainly because they are highly visible and my hockey + girl thighs are a challenge on their own. I've redone my thighs twice already. And I still hate them. But anyway, to get things to meet up, you can trim to as close as you can, primarily the bottom/back area. On the thighs it might be better to align the bottom where the form has the bump, and if the tops don't match, that's ok to start. You can trim the top to get them closer in height and put a return edge back on later. Close with the cover strips. When set, just "push" the back together to align. You may need to trim again at the top or bottom. Tape the heck out of it so it stays despite any tension and try it on. Trim along the seam as needed and retape and refit. Once you get it where you want it, glue that evil thing together and it'll hold just fine. Don't feel the back needs to be 100% straight lines. In fact I think my AP only has the "fold" on one side, and the inner back is flat - that's the side I tapered for my thigh cones. I hope this is helpful - but if anyone has other techniques or something to help, I want to know too! Let me see if I can find some reference pics and
  23. Pic of overlap while you are wearing it would be helpful. Otherwise, I'd say leave it for now and worry about it at the very end when you can wear the entire suit. You might look and feel fine with a little space in there, but if it ends up being too big you can trim down the sides of the kidney a bit.
  24. FOREARM: Taper that one that's too big at the bottom so it fits more snugly. THIGHS: I'm not expert so I post this with common sense caution - tape the crap out of them to get them as close as you can to what you want, mark and trim, and once you glue the inner strip, glue the outer strip as soon after as well (or both at the same time?). It should be strong enough to hold the form (with the other "unglued" side still taped) and you can gently heat it to relax the tension a little (though you may not need to). However, be VERY cautious how and how long you heat it so as not to damage or distort anything or melt the glue. Looks like you're doing quite well so far - nice trimming! EYES: don't be afraid to trim a liiiiiiiittle bit more out. Trust me you'll need every millimeter to be able to see more.
