  1. Thanks guys. Had my first kit up today. There’s a few dressing issues. Left bicep, right thigh and knees, but I’m nearly there. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  2. On Halloween in 1977, I promised myself I’d have a Stormtrooper costume “someday.” A brief 42 years later, I fulfilled that promise to myself with an ANH TK Stunt kit. After nearly a dozen troops, there’s no doubt that the Stormtrooper's popularity has endured. But as the young fans of today are probably more familiar with the redesigned TKs, I thought I’d give a FOTK a go. I decided on an 850 Armor Works kit, mainly because it was readily available and is made from ABS which is in my comfort zone. I ordered the armor only, no helmet, because I have an Anovos Standard Line (TFA) on hand. The order took about a month to fulfill and the people at 850 were very friendly and responsive. That kind of goodwill goes a long way with me. Obviously I’m here to get this, my 2nd costume, approved at some point. I'm reasonably confident with building and modifying. While I’ll take Basic approval, I’m going to take a shot at Centurion for now. If I hit a wall at some point, I’ll downshift with no regrets. I plan on posting many photos, asking stupid questions and most of all looking forward to receiving constructive feedback that will keep me on target. Hopefully this build log will serve as a good resource for other 850 builders. With that, here are parts I received. Let the games begin.

  3. Is there any way to make the Gallery tab on the top menu bar be stickied? Why I ask is when you reduce the screen size slightly it is moved under the "More" tab and many don't realise the gallery link is there

  6. Would be a lot of work but screen accurate to show a clear separation and would be needed for L3 Nice work with the cutting template. Really up to the DO's you could reach out to them for confirmation, you can see a separation in you chest plate but it is a little soft so wouldn't hurt to check. Depending how thick the ABS is you may be able to run a file (or sandpaper) down the recess to make it a little sharper, but I wouldn't attempt it unless it's really thick. If you do decide to cut and add backing to join back together just note there is no separations on the return edges

  9. Definitely before. Nice job on the ammo pack and sniper knee trimming! Unless you are getting a crease in between the boxes when you bend it, the thigh ammo pack shouldn't need a hot water bath, as once secured it doesn't get moved or flex. As I mentioned in my post from Nov. 20th, check the length on the sides to make sure it's an equal distance from the rear ridge corners. You can trim down the width if needed to achieve this. Post up some pics of you are not sure!

  13. I’m dumb.. I’m not even following CRL. Centurion requires rubber. Any leads on who has rubber? I’m guessing Imperial Gaskets? My searches are only pulling up stuff from 2016 and 2017 for his gaskets. And then there’s a link to a page I can’t view on FISD. Can’t find anything in terms of anyone selling rubber.. I can see why not many go that route, kinda looks like a pain and I’m sure they’re hot and hinder movement. Question: Are you required to stay in Centurion approved gear to troop if you are going for that level? If not, when would you actually, if ever, need to gear up in appropriate level items? 14. I don’t have a build thread. I bought mine second hand all put together. I had to alter it a bit to fit me. That was more the kidney area and do some work to get out where the yolk area is. If you need images I’d be happy to send them your way if you’re stuck. Just not some things may look weird how it was put together, since some things I’d done differently. 15. That’s about what I have also. So it’s just a issue on my end with having long forearm and bicep length then. Thank you and can’t wait to see your progression on your 850th also. Mine just got approved about a month ago. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  17. Project: Shocking update. More weathering done tonight, all the arm and leg armour has been done. Getting closer to that first suit up. Its amazing what you can do with a pot of black acrylic paint and some rags. Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk

  20. Just going to add a bit on battery info. 3.6 and 3.7 are just nominal voltages - the voltage of any lithium-ion varies with the charge level. A properly protected lithium-ion will be at 4.0-4.2v fresh off the charger, spend most of it's run time at ~3.63.7v, then shut itself off to prevent damage when it drops to ~2.5v. Recharge and repeat. It's very important to get a protected cell - aside from the fire hazard (a shorted cell won't necessarily go *boom*, but it can heat up to the point of damaging equipment and even starting a fire that water won't put out), an unprotected cell might charge over the typical 4.2v limit and damage the iComm circuitry. The size lithium-ion to use in a AA holder is perhaps more commonly referred to as a 14500 (name identifies the size - 14mm diameter, 50mm long). In the US, Trustfire is a decent budget brand. I've used XTAR that work well. Genuine Ultrafires are fine. Try to avoid something-fire brands from chinese sellers - they might very well be knock-off cells of dubious quality. Especially avoid any 14500 rated at anything much higher than 900mAh - it's almost guaranteed to be a chinese cell with a fake rating. Most 14500s will be rated at 800-900mAh.
