  1. Hi Tim, that's hilarious. 8 was going back and forth about a commission build. It was a toss up between a properly built suit that might not fit right vs it fitting right, but not built to as high of a standard. I'm glad it worked out for you. I hope to share my story soon. Cheer, Matt

  2. Holy cow, I can't believe I'm finally doing this. Hi everyone, I'm Matt (39) from Toronto, Canada. After years of deliberating, I'm finally pulling the trigger as a treat to myself in my 40th year on this Earth. I've dreamt of joining the 501st ever since I found out about it, but when my buddy James (we share not only the exact same birthday, but have many common interest, making us the perfect non-twin twins), agreed to build a suit at the same time with me, I didn't hesitate. So, we've both ordered an AM armor kit, to ensure a proper fit (sadly, Princess Leia's famous line wouldn't apply to us as Troopers, we ain't short!). Very, very excited to get started on this journey and look forward to sharing our experiences with you.

  3. I’d like to congratulate @TheRascalKing for being awarded the Attache Award. Justin did such a great job stepping up and keeping the pin run organized and running smoothly. The staff has all seen a lot of great comments on social media on how well this went. Thank you Justin we know this is a time consuming task but the staff appreciates all that you have done and continue to do.

  4. This worked a treat. Anyone stumbling on this thread, this matched nicely to my RS armour. Humbrol AA0374 I would add that, although it’s likely to work for your own armour, I tested for matching in an inconspicuous area e.g. screw/rivet on the inside of the armour before applying. 5. There have been issues with the last software upgrade which appears to now be rectified, well mostly;)

  7. My thinking behind RS not hemming the belt is probably down to them being completely loyal to how they were originally made to be fair. They do devote to the screen accuracy, warts and all. They did say when I picked the armour up that the belt would fray but should stop/reduce eventually. This may still be the case as I’ve only had the suit a few weeks. I’m going to get the fray check and try it in an inconspicuous area to see how it dries/what the results look like. I’ll let you know how I get on. Sent from The Empire

  8. At least that's ruled out a problem at my end, so thank you for that at least [emoji106]

  9. Theoretically that might work; I just can't believe RWA doesn't hem the edges to prevent this. If it were me, I'd use the fray check (basically a glue) on the backside and tops of the belt to avoid detection (yellowing or overapplication) as a short-term solution. If that holds great, if not, I personally would ditch the belt eventually and pick up a nice one from @TKittell (Imperial Issue), or hem it myself with a protective fold over the edges, but the latter solution I'm not sure if it would be scrutinized at higher level approvals.

  10. There may be no glory, but your level of knowledge and expertise from all those builds and your willingness to share it makes you invaluable to the detachment Glen, as evidenced by your 10K+ posts.

  11. I trimmed the knee plate. I'm assuming, looking at some other photos, that the ends (where I have the tape) need chopped off. Then I think I should be good to glue provided you guys think the positioning is correct. The gap underneath seems weird to me but maybe it's supposed to be like that?

  12. Thanks for the info - I have twisted the thighs inwards as recommended - the ammo belt no longer rubs - when I bend my knee it gets to about 70-80 degrees tilt before the armour strikes the back of my leg, so assume that will be ok. Made changes to the thigh strapping system today and will be doing a full test fit this coming week.

  13. Hey loose an N, we were poor and couldn't afford the extra N, it's Glen There's no crown, no extra money in your pay packet, only thing you get is a change of color on your EI badge, no glory or celebration, I just like building and as accurately as I can, over at IOC I broke their award system, I have 34 L2 and 9 L3 approvals, had to help come up with some new graphics for awards as nobody ever reached those heights, it was called the "Glen Effect" . History lesson: I wasn't the first to 7 EIB approvals, that would have been Todd "Toddo" TK 6647, he reached that goal before we had FOTK costumes, he also had a Skytrooper which is now homed at Spec Ops. Incidentally Todd only has 1 Centurion approved costume, so I was the first to 7 centurion approved costumes, again no fanfare or glory only self satisfaction. I think Richard means FISD costumes I retired a few costumes a few months ago to recoup some credits, I have 4 reserved BUT I recently was approved in a couple of others so back up to 25, I know I have a problem, the suitcase wall just keeps getting bigger, one day they will find me under an avalanche of suitcases

  14. I think Glen is at about 20+ approved costumes, so that's gonna be a tough one... (I secretly think he has an airplane hangar for storage).

  15. Looking forward to your build! I used a Dremel and some small files for the cutouts. It took patience, but Jim's helmet held up! I first coated the inside with resin for some extra strength though, so that may be the reason.

  16. In the past I've used toy guns and taken the electronics out, very small circuit boards, add a high bright LED so it fills the barrel with light and also add small disk flat batteries to save on space, they do last quite a long time. This one.also had a vibration motor, can feel it through the gun. This is an old build so I used AAA batteries. I also tried a few MP3 boards which are quite small, just a case of adding a switch and LED. I also add a speaker jack so I cam run a cable to the Aker amp. If you are interested the build is a basic scratch build https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/118-blastech-dlt-19/page

  17. Sorry I didn't document my power cylinder build but here are a few photos of them after a fresh coat of black paint. Not level or perfect but the look the part and much better than the original DVH power cylinders seen in the first post. Just wanted to assemble these quickly and figure out how to improve things as I make more of them. Weathering still needed once I am able to set up the magnets for mounting them on the blaster. I did not position the 3 inner capacitors as I would have liked to. I glued them together and just left them as they are. For the next practice build of these I will experiment more with replicating the ones from the reference photos.
