Okay guys, another update. Been working away slowly, and figuring things out as I go. Pretty happy with all of my V1 solutions! I promised you magnets... Another test fit! I identified a couple of critical problems, and have spent the last several weeks trying to remedy them. I definitely noticed a few things: 1. The forearms were way too tight at the wrist with the velcro shut, and it was veryvery difficult to get the velcro to line up (and be hidden) while suiting up on my own, with one hand and gloves on, so I gave up. So of course, I ridiculously overengineered them to solve this problem, and they work great now and are very easy to put on alone. I started by cutting channels in the coverstrips on each half of the forearms. They're plenty thick to allow for these 60 x 10 x 3mm neodymium bar magnets to be epoxied into them. And of course, I'm neurotic so I took the time to sand and use some filler to flatten them out a bit, spray them flat white, then put a piece of fuzzy ultra-thin velcro over them to make for a smooth and easy connection (and you barely notice they're there). I used some adhesive strips to attach corresponding magnets to the under/back side of each piece (keeping all the polarities the same, so they can only go on ONE way). The gaps look good and the magnets are just the right strength. Finally, a piece of elastic velcro'ed on one side keeps the pieces from separating entirely, and allows them to hinge open enough for me to get them on, then snap shut nicely. Once they're on, they're comfortable now and they line up fine on their own without help. Took some inspiration from Boba gauntlets on this one. As you can see, the magnets hold them snugly and make the gaps very smooth. I'll have em on in the next test fit. 2. I needed a cod strap. So I made one - velcro on one side for adjustability, and a snap on the cod. You can see most of the barrel strapping setup here, and where I installed the new suspenders, with slightly lower mounting points than the originals to allow for their length better. The key was finding where the "X" in the back wanted to sit flush on my back, then marking and gluing the mounting tabs in accordingly. 3. The thighs wouldn't stay shut in the back on their own. You can see how my right thigh was obviously bigger than the left in the original photo from opening up by accident. So, time to overengineer again! The coverstrips on the rear of the thighs weren't thick like the forerarms or shins, but actually are slightly concave and allowed for the same bar magnets to be mounted under them, then I used a stronger (slightly thicker) 5mm bar magnet to hold the thighs shut in the back. Gaps looking pretty good again and magnets are just the right strength again. They are pretty well motivated to stay in place, but are absolutely able to flex and slide open in the back to allow for greater mobility, and I added elastic similar to the forearms to help pull them back shut when not flexed. Finally, I finished the mounting points for my garter belt strapping - one down the front (idc if canon or no), and the characterstic ones down the sides as well. The double strap helps them hang nicely and I'll adjust them as I go. The drops come down from a duty belt and snap in easily. I had a bit of excess strap that will need to get trimmed, but you get the idea. Some final adjustment needed, but it's easy to put on and plenty comfortable. The thighs may still be a bit too tall, and I may end up cutting them down more in the future, especially after seeing how deep the inside of the leg is cut on this one... probably more comfortable as well. I don't want to cut parts that are already painted, and it's tough to get stuff symmetrical... but if it bothers me when I wear it, I'll cut em down more. (PS, I don't consider this a spoiler because it's been more than a week since this episode, and his Black Series leaked months ago). 4. The back/chest armor was rubbing/transferring onto the barrel where it overlaps. So I started lining the bottom lip of the pieces with sheets of adhesive craft foam to cut down on the rubbing! 5. I still need to finalize the shoulder bridge mounting... I ended up cutting a few extra ridges off after confirming the number visible from some reference photos. I also put a bit of a step into the area where I'll epoxy them in (after paint and clear again), so that they sit pretty nicely. They should be better now and bring the back panel up a bit. They're due for paint with the helmet and belts soon... soon... I also removed one of the aluminum shoulder supports that was slightly crooked, re-epoxied it in, added some extra epoxy around the mounts, then sprayed them white again. I also decided to change the color of the support tabs to black so that they're less noticeable. Painting the shoulder bridges and gluing them in the front should be all that's left in this area. 6. I still need to finish gloss white and clear on a couple of items... but the big one is the helmet. I've been putting it off, honestly out of fear of messing it up again, but I've been researching and trying to perfect my painting technique. Or at least make it passable haha Before I do my final coat of paint, I wanted to address two remaining issues... First is the bump in the (wearer's) right eye, a detail I'll blame @Parquette for confirming and having find its way into the CRL at L3. If I'm gonna do it, now's the time, so I started trying to add it in with a little Bondo. I don't love it (I dig the cleaned up symmetrical style) and don't want it to be super noticeable, but don't anyone say it's not there. I also noticed an extremely slight low spot that I wanted to fix (now or never), so we'll see how it looks after more wet sanding. I think that's about it for now. Stuff I have left? - The helmet... just a lot of stuff with the helmet. - The shins - with the success of the forearms, I may set them up with magnetic closures as well, or probably half magnet, half velcro. I also need to reinstall the sniper knee that I removed and add a spacer to lean it forward - it was tipped too far back and was hitting the thigh too aggressively. Will also likely add some craft foam to the back of it (and the belts). - The belts - need paint and to have the belt boxes, drop boxes, and thermal detonator mounted. I did purchase hardware for them tho - some cool screws that have washers built in. The plan is to use a little E6000 in addition to screwing directly into them, then cover the screws with some more craft foam. Whole thing mounts with magnets and a little velcro. - The thermal detonator - I'll probably paint the gray at the same time as the helmet details, then mount it. - The shoulder bridges - still need to be painted and glued on, but otherwise the chest/back is done, as are the arms and most of the legs. I'm getting there! More updates soon. I'm legit trying to have this submitted by the end of the year. Then on to other projects next year5 points

Latest on my power cylinders- Found some newer style end caps that are cheaper and easier to modify than the ones I previously posted. End caps: 10mm OD/ 8mm ID Brass Tubing: 9mm OD To get the end cap inner diameter to fit over the 9mm brass tubing I had to drill once with an 8.5 flat profile drill bit and then again with a 9mm drill bit. I found drilling in one go with the 9mm drill bit resulted in more inaccuracy. The great thing about the flat profile bit is that it leaves a nearly perfect centered indent. This sets up my marks to drill the center holes for 10BA screws. I am really liking the look of the brass tubes. Unfortunately it's very expensive and not easily available in large quantities here in Japan. Aluminum tubing and ABS tubing are the other materials I will be testing out to see what is easiest to use & more economical. Sorry this is becoming more of a power cylinder build thread than blasters at the moment. Hopefully I can get back on track to finish the blasters at some point.3 points

Hi Daniel! First, THANKS for your submission for Centurion! You did an outstanding job on the fixes from your Expert Infantry application, but unfortunately there is one thing that was mentioned there as a requirement for Centurion that is still holding you back. As per the CRL, the tube stripes are "...positioned approximately a pencil width from the cheek". The pen you used in the photo (I have the same pen) is almost half an inch in diameter, and the gap is actually about twice as wide as a pencil (1/4 inch). We realize it's a pain, but the stripes will have to be closer to the cheek. It's great to know that Mario is working with you on this, so I am sure you will get this done in no time! While you wait for the decals to arrive, we would appreciate it if you could remove the excess glue as Glen pointed out... we want you to look spectacular, and those tiny details make a big difference in your overall look. Your right bicep should be at the same height as your left one. This is easily done with a strapping adjustment, but make sure the gap between the top of the forearms and bottom of the biceps is as even as possible. Looking forward to seeing the updated photos so that we can get that Centurion badge under your name!2 points

Had a good day today. I removed excess return edge from the biceps on the belt sander. Fitted them up as well with the gloves and under suit. Did a hot water bath to take the squareness out of the bicep lower halves. Trimmed off the excess from the forearms and biceps. Re fitted them and needed to remove 3/16 on the lower half of the forearms. Cut and Glued in the inside strips on the biceps and forearms with E-6000. I will glue the top halves on tomorrow evening. For some reason it will only let up load a certain amount of size per day. I resized all the recent pics. But only chose this one. End results of todays work.2 points

--EDIT-- Future Jason here... So for those who have followed my rather sporadic build down below, well, actually over in the ROTK section, you'll know that I've been kind of all over the place. However, one reason I've been slow-rolling this build is because I've kind of been pestering people about the possible inclusion of a Remnant Stormtrooper CRL. The thought first occurred to me after watching a few episodes of The Mandalorian season 1, but my thoughts really ramped up after the season 2 trailer dropped. My comment/ question in the 3D ROTK build thread was (referring to my 3D kit): "My original plans for this armor were to eventually weather it and turn it into a Jeddah trooper kit. But, if I wanted to do a Remnant Stormtrooper instead, what's the process for approval? Does this require a new CRL? Would it basically say "refer to ROTK and weather it?" [September 15, 2020] With that said, I'm not using the 3D Armor for this build. There's other plans for that. So, yeah. I've wanted to make a remnant for almost a year, but haven't really felt the push until now. With that said, I do reference another post later on in this thread because there's been a few of us discussing the Remnant and Anthology TKs for a while. If you haven't done so yet, please view the conversation here: https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/48305-new-anthology-tk-crl/ So, how did my ROTK build thread end up over here in the new Remnant/ Anthology section of the forum? Well, future Jason (page2 of this WIP) posted that he will be turning this build into a Remnant Stormtrooper and then went on to post pics of a cool OT helmet that will become part of this costume. I also requested that this thread be moved over to this section so I can officially begin transitioning this to a Remnant. Here are my goals: 1. The original title of this build was "Centurion from the Start." The idea behind that is to build to the highest standard from the beginning, that way you don't have to make major modifications to the costume to take it from basic to tier 3 approval. So far I'm on the right track, so I'm going to continue going down that path. 2. Finish this as a ROTK/ Anthology build, then make the transition to Remnant towards the end. I've already got a good plan for this build and don't want to deviate too much. Additionally, I still think value will be added to the build community by carrying on the way I've been going. In the end, this WIP should be a good example for others traveling down either the Anthology or Remnant paths. 3. You'll see later on that I've done a lot of things that are different than other builds, but more accurate. Since I started this build, I've gotten another costume approved that has some of these modified characteristics, i.e. the shoulder/ bicep 'j-hook' bungee connection. By the way, I can't emphasize how good this works, nor can I imagine doing my arms any other way now. For this build, I'll pull out a few things that haven't been tried previously, but make the costume a) more accurate, b) more comfortable, and c) more functional. I'll try to explain each as I go along. 4. There have been questions about whether this is a different costume or not. I think we laid out a good case in the aforementioned thread, but as I start transitioning from anthology to Remnant, I'll explain the differences in better detail. So, you've heard my musings and now understand why my build thread has moved over here. Please enjoy the build and I promise to keep on it, even if I'm doing it from a little apartment, which I'll talk about later. So with that all laid out, future Jason is now turning back over to the past. Please enjoy my build thread as I now send you back to December 4th, 2020. So, this just happened: For those who observed my insanity for the last few months as I did the 3D printed ROTK build, bear with me as I photo dump, type extremely long posts, and showcase what @TheRascalKing called in his own build thread, a "descent into madness." Ultimately, I enjoy doing these and hopefully later down the road, others can learn from my success and failures. First, I want to thank @11b30b4, @gmrhodes13, @Sly11, @TheRascalKing, @tarok, and all the others who I've previously bothered with questions, and who have been more than gracious in helping me out. I know there's others, this community has been great. Additionally, I really want to thank @jimmiroquai for the exceptional service over the last few weeks. I'll get to the product in a minute, but what really needs to be showcased is how well Jim answered all my questions, went above and beyond in his customer service, and really just showed pride in his work. If I could write him up for an award, I would. Thanks. So it begins... I titled this build thread Centurion from the Start. Now, some may look at that and think it's kind of cocky, but that's not the intent. Over the last 9 or so months, I've been fairly active in all the 501st forums and everywhere I look, people keep advising others to build to the higher level standards from the beginning. While this seems like sound advise, or even common sense, I've also followed up on these threads and observed less than half going there. That's a rough number which is probably even smaller, but it's similar to what I observed with the 3D printed armor build; plenty of people started, but then... Honestly, I think it has something to do with just getting worn out after doing a build. Sometimes after dedicating so much time to something, a person just wants to rest. I've seen this at work, with sports, and in life in general. That's what I did after Halloween, but that soon turned to restlessness. It just didn't seem right not hearing my 3d printer at all hours of the day and night. So, while I waited for this to happen, I printed off an entire scout trooper and finally figured out my Simplify3D PETG settings. I will say this; of all the forums I'm active in, FISD members seem to listen to the higher level advise more-so than others. I think the Pathfinders comes next, but really this idea seems to be a mantra in the FISD. Because of that, this is the direction I'm taking this build. Additionally, for those who saw the 3D print build, you saw that I attempted to build things to the higher standards, but ultimately I decided to hold back at basic approval. Though I reigned myself back, every one of those little things I learned about the 3d print build, I can apply here. This includes the eye bump I'm so proud of. So, that's enough rambling for now. I'm getting ready to go for a run, because a huge portion of this build, for me, is to get my body looking screen accurate. This is going to take a lot more work than the armor. Here's what I got: First, Jim sent me this pic and a tracking number last Friday. Knowing that it was coming from the Philippines, I actually wasn't expecting it for a while. However, just seeing the pic got me excited. Then this happened: This has to be highlighted. I saw when the BBB was dropped off, but once FedEx actually processed it, the BBB's journey across the globe happened in a freaking blur. Keep in mind, this is during a world-wide pandemic. Much kudos to Jim for the service and for keeping me updated. Wow! Unfortunately, a box just can't travel across the world in three days without it's Fragile sticker being disregarded. At first I got a little freaked out, but honestly after seeing the video Jim posted about his flexible fiberglass I wasn't worried. Also, with all the bubble wrap and great packing job, I knew it would be fine. After laying it all out, everything checked good. So here we go. This should be a lot of fun. Thanks for looking and I'll start updating soon.1 point

"Buckets Off" Greetings fellow troopers Can you believe it's December and the festive season is upon us!! It has indeed been a tough year for many of our imperial citizens around the world and although some staff were heavily impacted here in the detachment, we have managed to keep FISD "The place to be" in 2020. Together we have achieved so much and remained the most active forum in the 501st thanks to all of you, our wonderful membership. I would also like to thank the detachment command and extended staff for the outstanding effort of being here for the membership as much as you have been. Our forums arguably look the best they ever have with colourful banners, new sections and the huge clean up and repair effort that is still under way. This will continue until complete and was years overdue. We hit the Victory 1000 milestone in true TK celebratory fashion approving the 1000 Expert Infantry member and continue upwards, and are now ever so close to hitting Centurion500 so lets keep the momentum flowing. We introduced some new merch in the form of the exclusive pins, and I will reveal that next year we will indeed have different version of these, this time available to all. Before you know it we will have those beautiful Victory 1000 patches in our hands and I can not wait to see photos of these on jackets and vests, worn with pride. Well what can the PM team say about 2020 that hasn't already been said? Yes it was a tough year for all. So I will leave it at that. What did that mean for our team here at the FISD? Well overall it was a very smooth sailing year for the DCOGs. The forums ran rather smoothly and everyone got along. We extremely appreciate all of our members cooperation and support towards one another. Even though our members had a tough time during the pandemic in their personal lives, many members found the time to come onto our forums and provide helpful assistance to build threads and be welcoming to our new members. For all of that we are really greatful. The FISD remains the most active forum within the legion and we couldn't do that without all of you. Once you've hit a milestone count, go over to the "Field Exercise Awards -- Post your milestones here" thread to request your profile be updated! Simple, right? Milestone post example: Milestone and Troop Log Title: [100] TK12345 My troop log Date and Event: 8/23/2019 -- Death Star Cooking Class Photo: Pictures are not required, but are highly encouraged! Your picture may end up in the Stormtrooper Hall of Fame No Award Recipients November - December The FISD Master Armorer program is an optional, detachment only incentive award to recognize individuals who have directly helped another 501st stormtrooper to achieve Expert Infantry status. Some people spend countless hours helping others, and want to reward their results as well as incentivizing new people to help as well. To register a “win” in the program, the assistance must have provided hands-on help trimming, building, and/or fitting of said armor for the person who was awarded Expert Infantry status. Other program notes: • Helping remotely, giving advice, or taking payment in exchange for help does not account, all work must be voluntary and without expectation of compensation. • The assistance must be for a period of 30 minutes or more. Spending 15 minutes tweaking someone’s fitting or taking photos does not count. • "wins" can be retroactive, e.g. if you helped 5 people in 2017 already, those can count as long as they are fully documented. Award Levels • 5+ “wins”: FISD Armorer Badge • 15+ “wins” FISD Senior Armorer Badge • 25+ “wins” FISD Master Armorer Badge The process • Person applying for the award will create an application thread to track the help they give. • For each “win”, they will list the person they helped achieve Expert Infantry status by copying their EI approval thread. • For each “win”, the person who was helped will validate that this person helped them. You can find the master award area here https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/182-fisd-master-armorer-program Are you an approved TK that spends more time on the boards than the average Trooper? Do you enjoy using your knowledge to help out future and existing Troopers? If so, we would like to invite you to join the Imperial Attaché program! Members of the I.A. team are chosen to help out not only those here on the boards, but on a local level as well. Our aim is to have at least one in each and every Garrison, Squad and Outpost in the entire legion to be the eyes and ears of the FISD on a local level. A suggested level of EIB or above is preferred, as part of the duties include assisting those aiming for levels 2 and 3, but is not a requirement. Being active on the boards on a regular basis , welcoming new members and helping out where you can is, though. Some of the benefits: 1. Access to exclusive Attaché merch., including patches, etc. 2. Having the Imperial Attaché title under your name. 3. Being a part of the team that welcomes new and prospective members of the FISD. 4. Being the "go-to" person in your Garrison, Squad or Outpost. 5. Exclusive access to the Attaché HQ area, Imperial Propaganda Machine (newsletter) and merchandise discussions. I know like myself trooping is a form of stress relief for some people. I don’t think we will be getting back to heavy trooping soon but we have remained positive in the detachment. We’ve seen some good milestones this year, a few new attaches and a lot of builds. Congrats to all who were upgraded to EI and Centurion, job well done. Thank you to all attaches, and troopers who have kept this detachment moving and also a big welcome to all the new people this year. This truly is the best detachment. Lastly a big thank you to Andrew for putting in a lot of personal time making things run smoothly. This is my first year working with him and I was surprised as to what’s involved with making things run smoothly and how much dedication he has for the detachment. I’m proud to be part of his team. I look forward to moving forward into 2021 and having another great detachment year. With Unquestioned Loyalty Frank Peranteau TK75139 "Frank75139" Attaché Ambassador Update Your Fire Team Info: Hi all, I've been doing some housekeeping in the approved Fire Team area, mainly to make all the posts in a uniform, easy to see format. The original post were in a different forum theme and those font colors were hard to see in the current theme. Anyway, please check any teams you may be a part of and see if they are still active, members up to date and the logo still works. Please contact me directly if any of your information is incorrect or you need your logo updated. For the full list of Fire Teams here Thanks! With Unquestioned Loyalty Mark Ryner TK4584 "captsafe66 " FISD/Fire Team Director So what exactly are EIB (Expert Infantry Badge) and Centurion levels? These programs were designed for those who choose to take their armor above and beyond the minimum requirements for basic 501st Legion approval. It gives you the chance to show a level of dedication and pride that takes your armor closer to being as "screen accurate" as possible, without as much extra work as you may realize! It also works on giving a better look to the Legion as an entity, and you can bet others will take notice of your hard work. The 501st has a list of detailed requirements for Basic approval, (level 1), EIB, (level 2) and Centurion, (level 3) which can be found here in the Costume Reference Library, (CRL) http://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:FISD_CRL Here are a few of the questions people may be wondering about: 1. "I am a (tall/short/heavy/thin) Trooper. Can I still apply? Of course! These programs are open and encouraged for all sizes of TKs, as long as the costume is correct and meets the guidelines. There are many specific build tutorials to every option, as well as a vast network of fellow TKs on the FISD to help you out and offer suggestions. 2. "How much extra will I have to pay for extra items"? The cost is actually quite reasonable, considering the few extra supplies you will need, which are listed in the requirements area. While it may run you a little more to implement these additions to your costume, they will go a long way to improving accuracy. All needed items can be found for sale on this thread: https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/16-ongoing-sales-project-orders/ While blasters are not required for basic approval, for EIB and Centurion levels they are, and may need upgrades (also listed in the CRL). 3. "I haven't even got my kit yet, is it too early to start planning"? Actually, aiming for Centurion is easiest to do right out of the box. 4. "I have my basic TK approval, can I still get in these programs"? In a word... absolutely! 5. "Are there any "perks" to this extra work and cost"? Besides knowing that you have a great looking set of armor, the 501st and FISD believes you should be deservedly recognized for your achievement(s), and allows you to wear the appropriate embroidered "rocker" badge of rank (available for a very minimum cost) on your shirt, helmet bag, etc., as well as rank decals to put on your armor bin. You will also have access to select "challenge coin" runs, receive (free) a cool certificate for your new rank, and have your title posted below your name in your FISD signature. Plus, once you reach these levels, you will have the extra knowledge to help out those who are looking to apply as well. 6. "Is it hard to apply, and what happens then"? After basic approval, all you do is make sure your armor is up to the standards set forth in the CRL, post a thread with the required photos in the appropriate area (see below), and wait a bit for the D.O.s (Deployment Officers) to address it. (Hint: Studying other people's threads before you submit can be a GREAT help). These are also listed on the main page of the FISD site. While waiting for approval, you will get some comments from others who will offer suggestions and constructive advice to help you out. If you should need any changes, the DOs will let you know, so you can adjust accordingly. Don't be dismayed if you do need changes... it's all for your benefit! After you are approved for EIB, then you can submit for Centurion. EIB https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/19-request-expert-infantryman-status/ Centurion https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/72-request-centurion-status/ Photo Checklists To make it easier (and faster) to get you approved, we have updated the Photo Requirement checklists for both OT and FO and included visual examples of what we as D.O.s are looking for in order to move you along at an expedited rate. These can be found here: Expert Infantry: (For all non-FOTK costumes) Centurion: (For all non-FOTK costumes) FOTK: (EI and Centurion) Just remember that the FISD is here to help you every step of the way with whatever other questions you may have, but if you can't seem to find what you are looking for in your research, just ask away here on the forum. This area lists all those who have gone above and beyond basic approval toward screen accuracy. Hey troopers, Brand new here but I’ve been a fan of y’all for ages now. Finally getting to a spot in my life where I can stop imagining this and start getting ready to don the helmet for the first time - exciting stuff. Although I’ve still got quite a bit of prep and familiarization ahead before I can start in earnest, I’m thrilled to join the forum and start learning. Fingers crossed we’ll have a 2021 that’s a biiit less insane and I’ll be able to see you folks around sometime soon. Cheers from Virginia - stay safe & sane out there! -Korhal (Dylan)1 point

Another benefit of using an image host such as imgur or Flickr is that you will no longer have to compress/downsize your images and sacrifice viewing quality. Sent via Imperial Tapatalk Comms1 point

put on a few finishing touches on the captain's cape: Pockets, straps, and some extra stitching on the seams are good to go. It is worth noting that I glued the two straps on the cape hem. If they were to be sewn on, we'd see the stitches in the stripe. So, they're clamped and drying. For the final fitting we're going to sew folds anchored into the cape to hold the look and shape around the shoulders, then install the cape clasp at the right shoulder.1 point

I'll look into that. Sad thing is this is typically the time of year when we make the trip down there. If this were not 2020, I'd probably be looking at the stuff right now. I heard that there were some issues, but had no idea it had gone that far. What a shame.1 point

Powering along. There are limitations to images and sizes on the forums, many of us use an online free image host like Imgur1 point

Thank you! Wow, boy! I am definitely proud and grateful, and very, very stoked! A big thanks to the DOs for their guidance and patience. You're all doing (and have always done) an amazing job to help everyone get to 500 and beyond. A rising tide lifts all boats, as they say. A big thanks also to my fellow troopers at Knightfall for their help and guidance. It's been a tough year for many, but the feeling of isolation has been lessened somewhat knowing I could always reach out for assistance. It won't be long now and we can actually meet and troop!1 point

If you are using imgur, you can rotate them using the center button at the top of the editing screen: It's part of my tutorial here. Since you are aiming for Centurion right out of the box () this thread will help you with the small details we look for when approving at higher levels. Remember, the more photos you post up the better, especially when you have an issue. This is your build thread, so we encourage you to ask as many questions as you like, but when in doubt always ask before cutting/gluing. Trust me on that one, and I look forward to seeing your progress!1 point
