  1. OP (MV) Post #37: Troopers Helping Troopers Troopers Helping Troopers. Bad Guys Doing Good. Those are both phrases we all see and most of us experience on an almost daily basis here on FISD, and I'm constantly amazed at the genuine eagerness to help others here on the forum. That drive to lend a helping hand is so prevalent that it's contagious―I find myself seeking opportunities to share the [basic] knowledge I've gleaned from the veterans before me―and then hopefully the cycle continues. And this generosity doesn't just end at shared time or verbal and written assistance; it extends into the very real world through the gifting of extra hardware or strapping, frown and hovi tip mesh, or patches and coins. Or in my case, a financial "band aid" gift which might enable me to hold on to my armor and continue my build all the way to Legion approval. Last week was a very tough stretch for my family and then out of the blue, providentially I'm certain, a selfless Trooper reached out to ask how we were doing. The result of the ensuing conversation was the gift of encouragement, and much more. I don't yet know whether we can swing the rest of my build, but the gift that we were blessed with brings it a little closer to reality. Admittedly, there is still the mental barrier of committing a sum of scarce resources to something other than necessities such as diapers, healthy food, loans, bills, etc., but this act of kindness that my family received makes me that much more determined to make other sacrifices in order to see this through (For the Empire!). The thoughtfulness of each and every one of you is a true testament to the spirit of the community, and hopefully someday, or every day, I'll be able to pay it forward. Caleb Quote Response: Andrew - Thanks for pointing out the TD paint that you use. I will make note of that and keep it in mind for when I determine how to proceed with my build.

NEW Detachment Leader Deployment Office Centurion500 Merchandise Just For Laughs Trooping In the Media INFORMATION & AWARD PROGRAMS Common FISD Acronyms and TK Glossary Pre Approval Forum 3D Section Field Exercise Award Master Armorer Program Imperial Attaché Program Fire Teams EIB & Centurion: What do these terms mean? Advanced Tactics Awards Public Relations Staff List 2020 Follow FISD Greetings fellow troopers Wow! what an eventful month we just had and have gone head strong into another here at FISD. It's been a very exciting time to be a member if you love special merch as we closed out on the Victory 1000 sales thread and the exclusive EI 1000 pins. The pins have now gone into production so it wont be too long before we start seeing them proudly worn on the pockets and lapels of garrison and detachment shirts. The 11' patch samples came in and under scrutiny, we weren't fully satisfied with some of the colors so have requested some color corrections to the hues in the sample. I'm happy to say, we should see the final update by the time you read this and will have given the nod for production to go forward. I honestly cant wait to get this patch in my hot little hands and onto the back of a jacket or vest. Centurion500 came hot on the heals of Victory 1000 and has successfully been launched. You can read all about this next milestone a little further down in this edition. Several CRL projects have been underway and other work has begun on more of our existing costume references that are in need of some good TLC. The TFU Stormtrooper CRL is complete and currently under review of the LMO's, we should have a green light on this in the very near future and it will become the newest edition to FISD. Commander Pyre CRL and costume build work is continuing with Dino doing a great job so far. We are working with the LMO's to make sure they are satisfied each step of the way. This costume is limited in references from the animated series, and a Black series 6" figure. We are working with Dino to create a realistic version of this costume garnering details from the LFL graphic sheets we have of the animated character, using the 6" figure as a secondary reference only. The LMO's are pleased with this route, and I for one look very much forward to seeing this costume complete. It will be most impressive. Phasma TFA CRL update has started. This will be a long process by design. The initial CRL is off in several areas and in some instances we feel it is not fit for purpose. The team working on this are going to be as meticulous as possible, fix the errors, revitalize lvl 2 and potentially add a Centurion level as well. Something for those who love this costume to look forward to. We owe it to the membership to get the first order captain to the level she deserves. TLJ will get the same treatment once TFA is complete. On the OT TK CRL front, staff are currently in discussion regarding a couple of changes to the helmet. These changes would affect several OTTK versions, and those suggested changes are under refinement. I will be opening a Poll for the proposed changes so you the membership can play a part and vote on these. This will influence the final decision before it goes to the LMO's for their appraisal and ultimate yay or nay. We do this because some of these changes could effect approval at any of the levels. I'll leave it there for this month but as always, stay safe, stay well and I'll see you on the forums. I event I wanted to share with you in particular was the online convention, Infernocon, we held last month which raised over $1200 for the MAW Foundation. While the online portion of the conference likely doesn't qualify as an event, the squad decided to meet for a socially distanced, masks under helmets, photoshoot at the end of the conference. This was primarily to get the squad together, while adhering to local regulations, as well as to provide online participants an example of what trooping looks like in light of Coronavirus restrictions. I understand that regulations are different everywhere, but overall this ended up being a successful event that might be fun to share with the community. The garrison has continued to provide limited participation to various events and has shared pics via Facebook and the garrison forum to show what responsible pandemic trooping looks like. This also reminds the community that even during a pandemic, "bad guys doing good," is still available. Also, early indications are that the squad is planning a "Holiday Special" in December. Please see the attached pics from the event. Thanks, Jason "BigJasoni" TK-Recruit ‘The Mandalorian and the Child’ Titled “The Mandalorian and the Child,” the portrait, produced in collaboration with the National Portrait Gallery, has been unveiled at The Unit gallery in London. The Child is popularly referred to as Baby Yoda by fans of the series. The portrait’s unveiling from Oct. 30-31 will coincide with the season 2 premiere of “The Mandalorian,” which streams on Disney Plus from Oct. 30. The 3-feet-by-2-feet oil portrait will hang alongside some of the National Portrait Gallery’s own collection of portraits of familiar faces from the “Star Wars” galaxy, including Sir Alec Guinness, Thandie Newton, Felicity Jones, Ben Morris, Riz Ahmed and Gareth Edwards. The display will also include original concept art from “The Mandalorian,” created by artists Doug Chiang, John Park and Christian Alzman. Luke Bradley-Jones, senior vice president at Disney Plus, said: “This is truly the way to mark the arrival of the second season of ‘The Mandalorian.’ We are honored to unveil this portrait in collaboration with the esteemed National Portrait Gallery. The show and characters created by Jon Favreau have been embraced by fans across the U.K. who can now stand a step closer to inspect them on canvas before streaming the new episodes.” Ros Lawler, chief operating officer at National Portrait Gallery, added: “There is no doubt that ‘Star Wars’ is a cultural phenomenon that has had a huge impact on popular culture and has involved a wide range of talent from across the British film industry. We are delighted to have worked with Disney Plus on the Star Wars display, which includes the painting of ‘The Mandalorian and the Child’. We hope that this unique collaboration between the Gallery and Disney Plus will encourage new audiences and young people to our collection, allowing them to come face to face with their ‘Star Wars’ heroes.” INFORMATION & AWARD PROGRAMS Are you new to the FISD and wondering what the heck all those abbreviations and strange sounding terms mean? To help you @justjoseph63 has started a list of the most commonly used ones that will give you some insight. If you have ANY questions about a particular term that is not listed or suggestions for new ones please contact Joseph. You can find the list here Pre Approval Forum allows future Troopers the opportunity to submit photos of their completed build to be reviewed by the Staff, Imperial Attaches and others in preparation for forwarding it to their GML for approval. Any and all advice/suggestions given will be specific, constructive, helpful and respectful. Please note that this program will NOT take the place of your local GML, as Detachments are not chartered for costume approval and can not override a GMLs decision, but is instead a peer review program designed to help you look your best and offer guidance and positive feedback. You will have the opportunity to ask questions about your completed armor, weapons (if applicable), accessories, etc. and get accurate information from the experts here at the FISD.. the definitive home of TKs worldwide. Some people spend countless hours helping others, and want to reward their results as well as incentivizing new people to help as well. To register a “win” in the program, the assistance must have provided hands-on help trimming, building, and/or fitting of said armor for the person who was awarded Expert Infantry status. Other program notes: • Helping remotely, giving advice, or taking payment in exchange for help does not account, all work must be voluntary and without expectation of compensation. • The assistance must be for a period of 30 minutes or more. Spending 15 minutes tweaking someone’s fitting or taking photos does not count. • "wins" can be retroactive, e.g. if you helped 5 people in 2017 already, those can count as long as they are fully documented. Award Levels • 5+ “wins”: FISD Armorer Badge • 15+ “wins” FISD Senior Armorer Badge • 25+ “wins” FISD Master Armorer Badge The process • Person applying for the award will create an application thread to track the help they give. • For each “win”, they will list the person they helped achieve Expert Infantry status by copying their EI approval thread. • For each “win”, the person who was helped will validate that this person helped them. These programs were designed for those who choose to take their armor above and beyond the minimum requirements for basic 501st Legion approval. It gives you the chance to show a level of dedication and pride that takes your armor closer to being as "screen accurate" as possible, without as much extra work as you may realize! It also works on giving a better look to the Legion as an entity, and you can bet others will take notice of your hard work. The 501st has a list of detailed requirements for Basic approval, (level 1), EIB, (level 2) and Centurion, (level 3) which can be found here in the Costume Reference Library, (CRL) http://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:FISD_CRL Here are a few of the questions people may be wondering about: 1. "I am a (tall/short/heavy/thin) Trooper. Can I still apply? Of course! These programs are open and encouraged for all sizes of TKs, as long as the costume is correct and meets the guidelines. There are many specific build tutorials to every option, as well as a vast network of fellow TKs on the FISD to help you out and offer suggestions. 2. "How much extra will I have to pay for extra items"? The cost is actually quite reasonable, considering the few extra supplies you will need, which are listed in the requirements area. While it may run you a little more to implement these additions to your costume, they will go a long way to improving accuracy. All needed items can be found for sale on this thread: https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/16-ongoing-sales-project-orders/ While blasters are not required for basic approval, for EIB and Centurion levels they are, and may need upgrades (also listed in the CRL). 3. "I haven't even got my kit yet, is it too early to start planning"? Actually, aiming for Centurion is easiest to do right out of the box. 4. "I have my basic TK approval, can I still get in these programs"? In a word... absolutely! 5. "Are there any "perks" to this extra work and cost"? Besides knowing that you have a great looking set of armor, the 501st and FISD believes you should be deservedly recognized for your achievement(s), and allows you to wear the appropriate embroidered "rocker" badge of rank (available for a very minimum cost) on your shirt, helmet bag, etc., as well as rank decals to put on your armor bin. You will also have access to select "challenge coin" runs, receive (free) a cool certificate for your new rank, and have your title posted below your name in your FISD signature. Plus, once you reach these levels, you will have the extra knowledge to help out those who are looking to apply as well. 6. "Is it hard to apply, and what happens then"? After basic approval, all you do is make sure your armor is up to the standards set forth in the CRL, post a thread with the required photos in the appropriate area (see below), and wait a bit for the D.O.s (Deployment Officers) to address it. (Hint: Studying other people's threads before you submit can be a GREAT help). These are also listed on the main page of the FISD site. While waiting for approval, you will get some comments from others who will offer suggestions and constructive advice to help you out. If you should need any changes, the DOs will let you know, so you can adjust accordingly. Don't be dismayed if you do need changes... it's all for your benefit! After you are approved for EIB, then you can submit for Centurion. EIB https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/19-request-expert-infantryman-status/ Centurion https://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/72-request-centurion-status/ Photo Checklists To make it easier (and faster) to get you approved, we have updated the Photo Requirement checklists for both OT and FO and included visual examples of what we as D.O.s are looking for in order to move you along at an expedited rate. These can be found here: Expert Infantry: (For all non-FOTK costumes) Centurion: (For all non-FOTK costumes) FOTK: (EI and Centurion) Just remember that the FISD is here to help you every step of the way with whatever other questions you may have, but if you can't seem to find what you are looking for in your research, just ask away here on the forum. 4. Hello All, here's an update. Helmet is 99% complete. First and foremost, mad props to @MaskedVengeance @gmrhodes13 and @ukswrath Please check this link for details as it was my reference. : So I bought the Truck Bed liner and got a little messy today. I started this with taking out the hardware, the "S" seal, and straps. Note: the flimsy green film is a Bi$@& to work with. I officially hate it. OH!!! before I go any further... PLEASE please please #PLEASE note which side the "S" seal is clipped to the helmet. I didn't. Learn from my mistake. The open end at my thumb is the side you need. NOT the other side. LOL Next: I took the brass bolts and cut them down. I made special note to ensure I cut them 4 threads over the stack height of the nut, washer, plastic etc. Then I VERY lightly sanded them down to create a nice radius to let the nut go back on. Pro Tip, BEFORE you cut, put the nut ON, and run it down to the head of the bolt. After you cut, you can remove the nut. It'll likely get tough at the end, but that will just align the last thread and ensure when you sand it, you're not sanding it in a > Pitch. Trust me. With all the hardware out, I taped off the inside, including the teeth, and then taped a garbage bag to the outside, to ensure I do not get any over spray. BESURE YOU TAPE OFF YOUR TAG OR AUTHENTICITY LABEL!!! Spray, and let dry... two coats should do it. Be LIIIIIIGHT on the spray. Don't want it to run or drip. Here's a quick video of how the liner looks. https://i.imgur.com/8ATZzvZ.mp4 Once its all dry, lets start re-assembling. Remove the tape: Cut and hot glue in the terrible to work with green flimsy film, and glue in the screen @MaskedVengeance sent me. Add the padding (purchased separately) Insert the super awesome, seriously why WOULDN'T you get this... iCOMM voice changer, and fan assembly, from @ukswrath and the seal is replaced. Tomorrow, I will drill the holes for the speakers, and bolt them in. Just ran out of time today. Nonetheless, It was a great day, and this build is coming along. PS: with padding Helmet fits perfectly!

  5. If you do need to adjust the angle of the hovi, it is easy to cut a piece of rubber tube on an angle so you get a thin wedge, place the rubber wedge behind the mic tip, you can then rotate this wedge and it will adjust the angle of the mic tip.

  6. Using painters tape can help too, push down on the area that lifts then while holding down wrap some painters tape around, it's amazing how much this can help. Also your thigh cover strips should stop just above the lower ridge, they don't go all the way to the end

When in doubt check the CRL (costume reference gallery) https://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:TK_anh_stunt You'll notice there are two areas, Require Costume Components and Optional, the holster falls under a required piece. Although blasters are not required for approval they are required if you wish to obtain EIB or Centurion

  11. Got more done. Still have to finish 1 bicep, TD, paint the belt pieces, and other misc pieces. Just about have enough money to order the cape. As for the boots and gloves, I might just have to paint them for now. I am having trouble finding someone who can get this done to the color I need and timely.

  13. hey all, so ive been tryin to find a good blaster, i message praetorian and got no response, the only person ive been able to actually get to respond was the field marshall E-11 kits, and while these are beautiful, im looking for something a bit more budget friendly. 15. Hi Lluis, In order to continue with your App , we need you to please make the following correction to the left "Hovi tip" of your helmet. It looks that is simply rotating it so that it is aligned. same as the references and photo of your EIB application. APP CENTURION APP EIB Reference Images Gracias.

  18. or build a warehouse to store them and create a super cave.

  19. I have fixed most of what you listed. sorry it's an older picture and I liked the pose so I used it

  20. Hi David, in my opinion you can trim the return edge a bit to avoid some "cracks" and it's not a problem that back section is a bit wider than the chest. You could check some Anovos Building threads and compare. Reference images cheers

  21. I know they are injection molded polyurethane. I have quite a few friends that wore them in Rogue One, Mandalorian, Solo, and the FOTK's and others in all of the new series. They are thick polyurethane injection molded.

  23. Thanks for the Kudos everyone. If anyone has any questions or comments feel free to post them here or contact me directly. Sorry I haven't been around as much these days, hoping to change that in the near future. THT

  24. Indeed You can’t beat injection molding with flex materials, TFA TK’s onwards have used the same type materials in construction. Screen used FO TK chest plates lay almost flat if you put one on a table top due to the PU. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  25. I found the belt tutorial with elastic here on the boards. Reworking the belt the way you have described should be an easy task.

  26. Don't think I've seen anyone us elastic inside, I would think it could gather the fabric causing wrinkles, personally I'd leave it out. I didn't event heat to bend, used some cheap plastic sign and it conforms nicely around the armor.

  27. Thanks! I had a piece of ABS in the holster area but removed it because when I heated it to give some curve, it caused the elastic to bunch up some and left an impression of the shape in the canvas. Do you recommend foregoing the internal elastic then?

  28. I’M SO EXCITED!!!! Thank you so much and thanks to everyone who gave advice on my build as well as those who provided such great build threads to reference!

  29. @Rob .T . It's really a formality, but could you please copy in the required information and the photos from your EIB application into your Centurion application? A lot of troopers used these threads as guides for their own builds, and your EIB thread had a lot of great updates to it, so we'd like to see all the latest and greatest photos here in your Centurion application. Thanks!

  30. Though a blaster is not required for basic 501st approval (due to availability and potential legal restrictions around the world), the holster is one of the required costume components of the ANH Stunt CRL. So yes, you will need to make or acquire one for approval. Sent via Imperial Tapatalk Comms

  31. Thanks, Dan! Your builds are very helpful. Does that mean I should paint up the “walls” of the tears a bit? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  32. Definitely not ABS (which is why you see the new ABS makers including parts that are 3D-printed or resin cast... you simply cannot pull the level of detail that is the hallmark of these suits in ABS), it's most likely a flexible injection-molded polyurethane as stated above. And for the record, many of the suits I saw on set were TRASHED and being held together by gaff tape. We saw guys sitting down in some of the extra feature materials? It was because every one of their posterior armor was cracked almost in half and taped over. But anyways, it's extremely unlikely that any hobby-level maker would be able to produce them using the screen accurate process and material, but Jim "Jimmiroquai" Tripon's proprietary flexible fiberglass is definitely the closest currently available and does a great job capturing the details. His sculpt isn't perfect and some details are off, but it's darn good and much better than the ABS, in my opinion.

  33. Hi Scott, Great to see your Centurion App. Let me say you did an awesome work with those fixes ! Added your app to the process line.

  34. You can't see the walls in my bedroom due to the amount of suitcases and helmet bags, there's also a shelving system with 3 x 3D printers, I don't have much room to move Coming to the conclusion I may need to start culling soon and look at selling a few costumes, I just don't wear them all as much as I should.

  35. Hi Garrett and welcome aboard future Trooper! Have a read in the “Getting Started-Read this First” section, as there is some really good info in there for new members. Then, have a read in “Costuming and Builds” section to discover other troopers who are building armor! Really good tips, examples, pictures, previously answered questions, and successes here. In addition to looking at all the various build threads, I highly recommend checking out the “Advanced Tactics” section where you can see examples of those who have taken their armor to the next levels of screen accuracy (EIB and Centurion). I’d recommend that you aim to build to one of the certification levels, as TK’s look their best at these levels. It's really not hard to acquire EIB or Centurion, and it’s best to do during your build rather that after. If, and when, you’re looking for other bits –and-pieces, accessories, boots, blasters, electronics, etc., be sure to check out the “Imperial Commissary” section for items for sale, project runs, and for other stuff that most of the troopers use. Also, make contact with your local Garrison . They’ll help guide you through the process of becoming a member of the 501st, and may have local Armor Parties in the works where you can get hands-on build advice and guidance, not to mention meet members of your future Garrison. So, start a build thread here on FISD; post lots of pictures and questions. We are all here to help you out and to make sure you look your best, and represent the 501st as best as possible. All the best on your TK journey!

  39. This is the best picture and comment for me personally. I dont even have my helmet yet, but I ordered the icomm from UKSWrath and I love it!. I noticed the same thing that for the volume output, I found that the mic needs to be nearly at my lips. I would like a more sensitive microphone, but with the fans, might make for a different problem. I was going to comment to UKSWrath my appreciation of his work, and albeit I compensated him with payment lol.... Still I am very happy with the iComm. Excellent product. Highly recommend. I do have a question however... what is the secondary unit in the package that has the usb attached to it, and a red connector on the other end?? I haven't sorted out what this is for... or where to plug it in ... lol

  40. Also - I snagged some NEAT foam helmet liners from WS Custom Helmet Liners. I bought a second one for the Scout that I’ll be working on at some point. I found them through their Facebook shop... Very high quality and so practical. I've tried hardhat liners and chin straps in the past, but my head can't turn much anyways because I don't have a long neck (the helmets haven't been able to clear the should bells very well). And since I'm not tumbling around during photo ops, I'm content to just let it rest in place with enough padding on the top of the helmet. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
