  1. After building the fantastic SE44C from Imperial Factory with 5th Horseman files, had to get the F-11D version. As I want to use the BlastFx, I will deviate and include the screen on the counter. Figure I can overlay with a blank later, but it is too cool not to include it (I have one on my E-11). Here are the parts after cleaning (you dont need to sand anything!).

  3. Post from 501st legion forum: https://www.501st.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=106862&p=1352596#p1352596 Halloo! It has been five years since our last drive for donations to pay for Legion hosting costs. Over the past five years, we have shifted our servers to the AWS (Amazon Web Services) architecture, utilizing Cloudfront CDN, RDS databasing, Route53 DNS, and AWS Firewall security, as well as regular backups and the storage thereof. We adopted a Google GSuite account to provide a more efficient email solution that also allows us to utilize an API to allow for opt-out, expanded our domain registration account with both Amazon and GoDaddy. And not least, we have taken on six detachments (FISD, IOC, MEPD, BHG, SLD and soon-to-be SP) to be hosted under the Legion account. We push an average of 650G of traffic a month between the main site, Databank, the forums, and the hosted detachment sites. Our last drive in 2015 raised funds to cover the Legion's hosting bills for the period of February 2015 through August 2020, and it was a drive for only 501st.com. It is time for us to pass the bucket again - combining the drives for the Legion and six hosted detachments. Our first goal is just to keep the lights on for one year for 501st.com and the six detachments, no contract, paid month to month. Our second goal would allow us to lock in a contract with some price savings for three years, while our third (stretch) goal would allow us to go beyond that as well as explore other services and/or enfolding more detachments (if they choose) under the AWS account. Please make sure you are logged into the forums, and then take a moment to visit the donation page, and make a small contribution to help fund the site: https://www.501st.com/donate/ There you will be able to make a donation and see how we are progressing at meeting the goals for this drive. If anyone has any questions - feel free to post here, or to email us at [email protected]. Thanks You! ~C Rhaethe Legion Webmaster NOTE this is open to members and no members alike, anyone can donate "troopers helping troopers"

  4. Ears and cover strips looks great ! keep it up. just a Tip for cover strips : Try as follows, 1. Mark the 15mm 2. Make a first cut with a cutter , (this is going to make a track) 3. With hand or a plier just bend it . 4. sand it . This is a fast, practical way to make the cover strips. Take a look to this screen captures from a RS Props video. cheers

  5. Hi Emma Nice start with the ears. You’re right - they can be a pain. If I may, I’d consider lines more like the below; What you have is probably okay for basic clearance, however, to my eye they are still a little thick (especially at the rear). :-)

  8. Hello everyone This is my first ever build, and whilst I'm excited about it, I'm definitely not a handy person, and would go as far as saying I am beyond useless when it comes to DIY - my wife even laughed with surprise when I told her I was buying a stormtrooper armour kit! However, having discovered this forum and seen how helpful and supportive everyone is, it gives me confidence that I can do this - I have already seen some great tutorials and build threads on the site, and will be following the RS Propmasters YouTube series too. I opened my BBB properly yesterday, so having read the Imgur thread, what hopefully follows below is a series of pictures from the unboxing... There is an extra pair of ears (probably useful based on what I have read about how difficult ears can be!), and both sets are marked with cut lines and drill holes. I have a RS neckseal on the way and I forgot to put the ESB decals in the photo - there are two sets of those. So that's it - assuming the pictures are visible my next post will be of the first tentative cuts into the armour!

  9. Ah okay, thanks Rob - I realise looking back at my photos the light wasn't the greatest so I think perhaps it wasn't 100% clear. And thanks for sending the second set, I think I will be grateful for them!

  10. I'm still working on my own build, but from all I've seen there can definitely be mobility issues when suited up. You're on the right track with cutting into the raised section behind the knees. I plan on utilizing angled mobility cuts (if necessary), to maintain a clean, uniform look. Check out this post:

  12. To be honest, if I were a GML I would not pass them for a few reasons. Since this costume is basically a TK but with different colored armor the same basic requirements should apply as in ANH. As per the CRL, the boots hsould have a "Flat sole with a short heel". The sole is much thicker than a TK boot "should" be and is not flat (raised ridges). The heel is extended and also has prominent visible ridges on the bottom (like a work boot). There is also some sort of cloth seam that runs along the entire outside where the leather meets the rubber part. BUT, in saying that I am not familiar with how Special Ops approves their boots and they could very well pass them. Your best bet would be to ask there and get some more detailed advice or ask you local GML.

  13. As Rowan mentioned the T-tracks and handle should not be weathered, but I wouldn't fret over it. The reason being is that it will pass at EI as is, but at Level 3 Hasbro blasters are not permitted. This one will definitely be good for trooping for the time being, but once your armor is approved you will have the time for your next project... a resin or 3D print E-11 for Centurion level!

  14. Thanks guys - the reference photos are great, I had seen a couple of them before on FISD but hadn't realised that there were so many of them, a truly valuable resource. I will fire up the Dremel and start trimming!

  17. Hi folks Our FISD forums are actually hosted on the legions platform and I dare say we use a good amount of the bandwidth due to the shear scale of our forums and number of users. This is a good way to contribute a couple a bucks towards the continuing hosting costs of the legion and our great forums. Thanks Glen for posting this here, I'm sure we will have a few eager to be involved and thanks everyone for your continued support

  18. Really depends on the paint and how it dries, personally I'd leave it, totally dry it out, quick sand and see if you need more primer or glazing putty

  20. These have a flat sole with no ridges. It really depends on what the current DL's say, just because someone has been approved with the others in the past does not automatically mean they will be approved again, as mentioned the CRL does state Flat sole with a short heel. Perhaps contact @justjoseph63 or @shashachu for clarification as they are our current DL's.

  21. Hi Emma. I think you will not have a problem with number 1 and 2. I don't really like number 3, because that turtle neck can be too much when putting your Neck Seal, Especially when the sun starts to heat up...According to the CRL, the only requirement is:"Black non-textured material, either one-piece or two-piece construction with no visible zippers or logos". Regards.

  22. According to the description, the armor is from DA props, and there are Stormtroopers approved all the way to centurion with DA armor. So, in that regard, you should be fine for approval, but I would still check out Spec Ops for guidance on ways to improve it. Good luck

  23. Kinda like this picture as well... Don't you love it when you find a new picture you don't remember seeing before? I wondered why my ears looked so weird, I didn't think I had that much to trim, but that's good to see. I am afraid I might have to bend the plastic a bit to get the ears smaller, eh... it happens. the lines are nice and tight on most of those, but shrinking them a bit won't be too difficult. The ones that aren't tight still have plenty of material to trim to tighten them up. Obviously they won't be perfect though. Gotta ask the wife if she has a compass hanging around

  24. Reason the original tips were white is because many were cast in resin from the original plumbing pieces, and yes, then painted black. What i do think is the mesh should either be black or unpainted for uniformity, choose one and go with it rather than movie or production errors.

  25. No time to work on armor this week- maybe tomorrow though? I'm taking a break from sewing cloth masks right now to share this super cool thing that arrived today!!! Behold! Fabric for gaskets!!! I was hesitant to plan on making somewhat accurate undergarments for my son's FOTK because of all the ribbing that I would have to sew. Last week somehow I ended up down a rabbit hole of fabric research online, and I found exactly what I was looking for! I don't know if it would pass for 501st approval, but heck, it'll work for Galactic Academy for sure! (I know this because Cameron was approved in his battle buddy FOTK with plain black compression garments.) It was on sale when I bought it, but it's kind of pricey now at $30/yard. https://www.joann.com/cosplay-ribbed-pleather-fabric-black/16228017.html Look for a coupon for it; Joann usually has coupons available to knock down the price. That said, I probably still would have bought it if only so that I could avoid sewing ribs!

  26. UPDATE: This post has been moved to a separate thread (linked below) within the Getting Started forum. Topics covered on that post remain below in green for reference. Here is a direct link: OP (MV) Post #21 In addition to documenting my journey and seeking help with my TK build, another one of my intentions with this thread is to provide future builders with a helpful resource for ATA and general (any armor maker) OT TK builds. To that end, this will be a RESOURCE POST containing reference links and documents which have been insightful to me, as well as helpful build threads. My intention will be to continue to update this list as my progress continues and I come across additional resources. NOTE: I am considering starting a new thread with this content. Would that be more helpful to the general TK community? Perhaps this post could serve as a draft, and feedback could be given? What do you think, @justjoseph63, king of TK tutorials? Getting Started or Tutorials & Tips forum? Working title: "2020 Index of Tips, Tutorials, and Build and Request Threads for OT TKs" 501st Legion Links: FISD Forums Getting Started Forum Pinned Threads (selection) Supply Lists Build Tips and Resources Strapping Systems Photo References Helmet/Bucket/Lid Interior Armor Cleaning, Sanding, & Shining Armor Yellowing Image Posting E-11 Blaster Armor Storage/Transport FISD and Stormtrooper Supplemental Posts Recasting ANH Stunt Build Threads (WIPs) ATA Build Threads (WIPs) Pre-Approval Requests EIB & Centurion Informational Threads EIB Requests Centurion Requests Purchase Options (my build) Alternative Accessory Options: Other External Resources Quote Response: Justin - Thanks for all those notes; super helpful! I've seen several people mention reinforcing shoulder bridges, so that's definitely on my to-do list. I'm also going to do my best to stay true to screen-used ANH armor return edges (or lack thereof), while also balancing that with ensuring the armor does look like cheap flat plastic sheets. Oh, and obviously comfort will play a part as well, and I'm planning on using the clean angled mobility cuts behind the knees which Mark from AP employs. And lastly, a belt sander is on my wish list, as I currently only have a palm sander, which won't be good for maintaining straight lines.

Wow, that seems like a lot, huh? Perhaps in light of the fact that we have 5,839 registered members, and about 500 detachment members (that's 501st AND TK), this is less than 5% of our detachment membership. That's an even more select group than our EIB members (about 80 so far). Congrats to the recipients. Thank you so much for your dedication to the detachment. As Synaptyx says as our unofficial motto: Troopers Helping Troopers! That's what FISD is all about.
