Helmet & Ab paint detail reference guide
ABS80 replied to Billhag's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
Common mistake people do is use gloss black instead of semi gloss black for the chin makes a ton of difference in appearance, the movie helmets chin were painted semi gloss black. Mark (AP) -
Who sculpted Hero faceplate
ABS80 replied to Holnave (evan_loh)'s topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
Same exact mold just cleaned up, you can see the same main assymetries, would be hard to believe a new sculpt would show the same assymetries, unless they recasted a stunt helmet and made the mods to make the hero helmets, with the limited budget and time schedule no way they would have sculpted new molds just to be so slightly different. The sandtrooper scenes were filmed before the death star and blockade runner TK scenes, thast why the added button plates ect... armor is same mold with new details added, shoulder straps, button plates, handplates, sniper knee. definetely not AP wrong ears wrong brow trim, soft details ect...

firebladejedi stormtrooper build ANH ish
ABS80 replied to firebladejedi's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
You should leave more material on each side fn the shoulder straps ribs at least leave a 1/8" lip, from photo it seems you trimmed to the edge of ribs which is a common newbie mistake, same goes for the main Ab button plate most over trim that part instead of leaving at least 1/8" lip all aroiund Mark -
That's cool, the helmets look like the vintage 3/4 action figures and the chest looks similar to Marco, wonder if Marco was involved in these suits

Never mind

So got for it if it meets your standards, whats your concern just click BUY IT NOW Mark
-
So why risk buying from him when you have many reputable makers that have proved quality product! from what I see I can tell you that he is a amateur in forming ABS. Mark
-
Poor forming quality with soft details, most parts are recasts from other makers and I can see a few parts are definetely AP recasts. You get what you pay for! Mark

Great Observation Eric you are correct about the coin. This is definetely a GF recast, that coin imprint is actually a Canadian dime which appeared on all the early FX armor, so whoever recasted FX in this case also Jedi Robe will all have that same coin imprint. This was the tell GF later used against FX to prove they had in fact recast his armor, why would a guy from California or UK use a Canadian dime when they don't use the same currency, it's just common sense GF being from Canada would use a Canadian coin. Google Canadian dime photos and you will see it's a Canadian coin not UK, the design clearly matches the imprint you have in your belt Mark

AP armor question! Please chime in
ABS80 replied to Buffstormtroop's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
I'm not going to start a debate as this is just your opinion and not actual facts and this will be my last post on this thread, for me personally lineage is way more important since you capture all the subtle shapes and assymetries which you can't duplicate perfectly on a fan sculpt, for shrinkage if any, there is no way it would be that obvious, I have many 200lbs+ customer fit in my suits all depend how you carry your weight, for the butt kidney not sure what your talking about, those pieces flex and can accommodate any size, it's the least of a concern. All that being said unless you have proof or facts about sizing and fitting you shouldn't comment on the issue. Regards Mark -
AP armor question! Please chime in
ABS80 replied to Buffstormtroop's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
Mathias, Please explain how can TM be more accurate if its a fan sculpt and not derived from original suit, also please provide proof that ATA is larger than AP if ATA originates from same source as AP, as a matter of fact all movie derived suits originate from same source so they are all very similar in size except for RS, just check the family tree. Mark -
I'ts definetely AP but the old version with less accurate ear pieces and back/cap, very different from current AP helmets
-
Not sure what your talking about, parts are correct size, these suit were designed to fit slim actors which averaged 170 lbs. Mark
-
Easy to work when the holes are all marked or predrilled right? Enjoy the rest of the build Mark (AP)
-
GF made and sculpted the FX style armor before getting into movie accurate ANH style armor, so those photos are irrelevent. Mark
-
changed slightly!!! don't knwo but helmet looks way different to me, also Marco legs are very tubular looking and a robot like chest. Mark
-
Marco is very different, the helmet is totally different compared to FX, FX was 100% recast from GF. The point of this thread is proof that FX recasted GF's work regardless,. Mark

Here are the facts of the FX armor origins. Back in 1997 D aka "Wookie Cantina" a online SW collectible store now known as FX actually recasted GF(Gerardo Follano) who was the original creator of what is commonly known as FX armor, D was buying armors from GF and reselling at good profit, unfortunately like most recasters D became very greedy and recasted GF's kit and had them mass produced in Mexico for dirt darn cheap, he sold thousands worldwide, basically GF never got credit for it, D denying he had recasted GFs work but was caught first hand, GF being from CANADA used a canadian dime to make the round center button details on the belt which appeared on all the FX suit recasts D sold, you could clearly see Queens Elizabeth face and dime detail from inside the belt part, so the fact is that Gerardo Follano was the original creator of the FX style armor which is known worldwide and worn by thousands of troopers, and between all this FX scam is when TE (trooper experts) came in contact with GF, they struck a deal and gave GF full authorization to produce ANH style armor from TE molds and history was made, IMHO GF, TE , GINO are the pioneers of the fan made suits and the main reason of the accurate armors we have available today. This thread should be a stick which is part of fan made trooper history. http://www.starwarshelmets.com/imperialfanGF.htm Mark (AP)

Huuum you guys need to be educated. Here's are the real facts of the FX armor origins. Back in 1997 Dale Mattson aka "Wookie Cantina" a online SW collectibe store now known as FX, actually recasted GF(Gerardo Follano) fan sculpted armor who was the original creator of the FX design armor, Dale was actually buying the armors from GF and reselling at profit, unfortunately like most recaster became greedy and decided to recast without GF authorisation and mass produce the kits in Mexico, sold thousands worldwide, basically GF never got credit for it, but Dale denying he had recasted GF was caught first hand, GF being from CANADA used a canadian dime to make the round center button details on the belt which appeared on all the FX suit recasts Dale sold, you could clearly see Queens Elizabeth face and dime detail from inside the belt part, so the fact is that Gerardo Follano was the original creator of the FX style armor which is known worldwide and worn by thousands of troopers, and between all this FX scam is when TE (trooper experts) came in contact with GF, they struck a deal and gave GF full authorization to produce ANH style armor from TE molds and history was made, IMHO GF, TE , GINO are the pionners of the fan made suits and the main reason of the accurate armors we have available today. This thread should be a stick which is part of fan made trooper history. Mark (AP)

Helle everyone, This thread was brought to my attention. No worries I'm still around and will be for quite some time I hope LOL;) Rest assured I'm working as fast as I can and I'm sorry If I missed to respond to some emails, I usually respond within a few hours. I'm easliy running 4 weeks behind schedule for the fact that shop I deal with was behind schedule aswell since they had a very a big contract to finish before they could start pulling on my stuff, their bread and butter is definetly not making a few armor parts, this shop runs tens of thousands of parts weekly and can only work on my stuff when the machines are free which is mostly only on weekends, so delays of 2 -3 weeks happen very easily. For those who have ready to wear orders please bare with us, my builder is flooded, to be honest since we started offering the Ready to Wear option the demand was more than anticipated and we are still adjusting accordingly. For now we are not taking anymore ready to wear order unless customers are willing to wait. You can contact me anytime at: [email protected] Sincerely Mark

Great to see AP troopers made it to The Price is Right show!! thank you for posting, you guys look great! Mark

Help with assembling ATA Helmet
ABS80 replied to roony2311's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
Thats why my AP helmet kits come with premarked holes, this simplifies the assembly quite a bit, people can still drill new holes to position ears and face plates to there prefference, but having premarked holes they have a good base to work with, my ear pieces also come with marked lines and with just a bit of sanding here they fit pretty good. Mark -
AP also offers fully trimmed kits or 100% Ready to Wear. for info email [email protected] Mark (AP)
