Some very valid points there Jez, thanks. @Jumpin jax. There are so many detail in this case that none of us are unfortunately gonna know or ever find out. I believe AA also did the Tusken Raider although I try and varify that. But I seem to remember Andrew mentioning it a long time ago. I think he is back in court within the next couple of weeks, so watch this space. Also jumpin jax I have no beef with you and everyone has their own opinion but I think it is wrong to call people names when they are not members and cannot defend them selves.

I find all this quite pointless. For example I'm a hairdresser and have been for over 20years. I pride myself on the quality of my work and charge quite high prices for doing so. This would be like asking me to do a half price haircut and put half the effort and quality into my work. I would not do that because my haircuts are my advertising. Crap haircuts = no work. I cannot see any self respecting artisan doing this.

I'm in the uk and I used Wickes appliance White for my TE HDPE lid. I found this an excelent colour as it is a slightly warm off White which I think looks closer to the originals. Don't forget that the armor was abs and the lids were HDPE so they never matched anyway.

But in an English court of law they are! The license only last 15 years as it is industrial design. Don't forget what is law in the States is very different to law in the UK. Things were said by AA that shouldn't have been said granted, but it doesn't change the law and that is all GL and AA have on their side. Do you know AA? He is far from a complete moron. I beg anyone here to not fabricate and big up your involvement in something if you are being sued for £30 million!. I think he could have said things differently but he didn't. As I said I am not excusing his words, he shouldn't have said what he did. But none of us was there in 1976 when he was. So none of us can comment on what was said and done. It is between GL and AA and it's their fight. To pass judgment on someone from what you have read is ignorant so don't go there......... And to just add that without AA none of you would be wearing that armor you are now....

I'd say that is a good price for that scope but it isn't accurate. you want a M38, M40 or a M19. That particular scope has the additional recess for a light bulb attachment in the middle of the scope. you can fill that section with body filler and respray it and it would look a lot closer..... Here are some shots of the different scopes for ya............: M38A2 Also called the M77G M38 M40 M19 And a comparison between the M38A2 and the M38

Dan Laws new ESB Stormtrooper Helmet
sskunky replied to firebladejedi's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
I think if you look closely at the back tube profile on the real helmet there is a chip of paint missing that gives the impression of the tube being more pronounced. You will also have a slight loss of profile and detail from the molding process alone. -
I think you'll find SDS would disagree with you on that one! :

How about the good old snatch wars.

I believe AP is still in Canada. When I got armor from him he sent it to NY and then it was sent to me. Aparently it was cheaper tha sending it direct from Canada.

Hi Paul, I know what you're saying it doesn't really add up unless it was a material he was also using in the production of the boats and other stuff he was making at the time?
-
I've just come off the phone from Andrew and he says that all the suits were made of an ABS with a high rubber content. At the time of production after he had made the helmets from HDPE he was asked to do the suits and took a gamble before it was finalized on what plastic was wanted and ordered some extusion abs that could be made to order with different flexabillity. HDPE couldn't be used for the armor as it is nearly impossible to glue. Today the armor is acrylic capped therefor much more ridgid than the originals. He also said that the armor wasn't particularily White but that didn't show under the studio lighting as it bleached them up and looked White on film. So there you have it.
-
I just asked Andrew again and he said it was a type of polypro which is similar to the milk bottle material and HDPE but paint does adhere to it better though.
-
I just updated the pics ( I had moved them by mistake)in the first post with the pre painted version of the face plate. I also found out it is some kind of polyurethane that milk bottles are made of too not HDPE!

Is this fact or just a thought? I hadn't heard of this before...

Talking about recasted armor or pointing fingers?
sskunky replied to Dmian's topic in Recasting Discussion
I think this is a very interesting subject and one that get's a lot of bad press. Years ago I thought it would be a good idea to mold a set of a known makers armor that is renowned for not fitting together properly. Like many..... But when I bought the subject up I was basically shot down where I stood! I thought it would be beneficial to the community to have a set of armor and lids that fitted together seamlessly and even a novice with basic modeling skills could put it together. This would basically mean reworking nearly every piece of the jigsaw so to speak. Not an easy job and not one many have taken on. What gets me about this topic is that it seems OK for the few to get away with it it it benefits certain people in the loop? Someone said to me once that if you steal a car and repaint it it doesn't make it right and is still someones hard work that I would be ripping off, Granted I said but I wasn't simply repainting something. I was going to put a lot of hard work into this to make it something to be proud of. But as you well know anything that is done in the world of recasting is frowned upon and I got so much flack for even thinking about it, I scrapped the idea and have since never thought about it again.
