Basic approval is done by your GML rather than us. From what I can see here it looks like it should be okay but I’ll state I’m not a DLT expert. There’s no obviously big problems. Maybe a tad bright on the wear in a few places but that’s easy enough to dial down. I can’t tell how itnwas made but I can’t see any obvious print lines or anything like that in year images. Best bet is to have a chat with your GML and then go from there.

Looks like a good fit, but would be nice to see a photo with a bit more context. Good work. -
Themaninthesuitcase Denuo Novo TLJ Build
themaninthesuitcase replied to themaninthesuitcase's topic in TLJ Build Threads
I have been plodding away on this, completely missed my initial deadline shocking absolutely no one ? Today I managed to finish rough trimming the last pulls. As these we more than "completely boring" I'll do a quick update on them. First was the shoulder bells. The trim line on this was "soft" to say the least. It was okay at the top but by the bottom was all but invisible even on the back. I ended up adding a few dots on the back side where it was JUST visible using an ultra fine sharpie. Then I held this up to a light and played join the dots on the front to be able to trim it. This was then trimmed with a mix of score and snap and some curved laxan scissors. The last parts I did was the abdomen shells. For these I was worried about flex at the "petals" causing cracks into the main armour so I started by using a 3mm drill to add a "crack stop" in all the corners. This gives a nice clean end to the runs and stops cracks forming in the first place. I then went back added all the trim lines and got to work on the rest, Again a mix of score and snap and the scissors. This shows the purpose of the drill holes. The trim is a bit rough but you can see how the drill left a nice clean corner with no chance of a crack running. I'll clean up with some sandpaper and files before gluing. With all the parts trimmed I did the obligatory "am I too fat" check. And I think I am okay. I expect I'll need about 1-2" of gap at the back but shouldn't need any shims. I am have some leave booked to use up each week this year in a "use it or lose it" situation so I am hoping to get a bit more done on this but Christmas looms large and there is shopping I'll need to do. I think my next goal is to get the abdomen cleaned up, test fit and see where that gets me. This part seems to from the core of the armour with other bits hanging off or fitting over so seems like a reasonable start point. -
Welcome to the FISD Hiroyuki! Good luck with your build.

repeat failures of the icomm unit?
themaninthesuitcase replied to BAZINGA's topic in Electronics for Helmets / Blasters
I’m not sure how many other options are left these days honestly. At least not dedicated aimed at the legion. -
Hi Rich, for an armourer you will need to head over to the UK Garrison https://www.ukgarrison.co.uk/forum/ You'll need to do this to get clearance, as you Live in Wales you'd fall under our jurisdiction. The team over there will help get you up and running. For other questions please do feel free to hang around, and once you've done your initial clearance please check out our level 2 (Expert Infantry) and 3 (Centurion) clearance programs.

This is why we clean our armour!
themaninthesuitcase replied to dblcross's topic in Getting Started - Read this First!
I have a pile of old IKEA hand towels in my box. Before packing up I wipe down all the yuck and then chuck those towels in with my under suit for a wash. Once all clean it just goes back into the box for next time. -
Hi all future Captain Enochs. We are still looking for a CRL model. A member was working with us but unfortunately they have been hit with Darth Life and have much more important things to look after. We have seen a number of great builds here, if you are one of them and have a finished build please do get into contact. Please note as this will be the CRL model we will be paying close attention to not only the general build but also key things like 3D print lines and fit to the member in question. It would be amazing to get this CRL completed before the end of the term.

The tones and general shape all look appropriate to me but lighting and fit are a huge part of this. It can be hard to judge any part in isolation, it will be easier to judge in a full or partial kit up. It is worth noting that on the screen used on the 2 main front panels are clearly leather along with the waist wrap section. The leather grain can clearly be seen here: The front middle, sides and back are the sections we're not sure on and the focus of the discussion. For now the CRL, bar the waist, not much mentions materials used. It wouldn't be unreasonable I don't think that level 3, and maybe 2, required leather (or leather like) materials for the 2 front panels.

Swedish Captain Enoch Build!

Lookimng good there trooper. Excited to see some of these getting done. -
Based on the image posted above there is nothing obvious that would prevent approval. That said it would fall to your local GML for actual approval, and fit would form part of that process.

Hello there.... Again!
themaninthesuitcase replied to wheelkings_adam's topic in New Member Introductions
Hi Adam welcome to the FISD If you find yourself needing new parts/new suit RWA do something he calls “the big boy” armour which caters for various flavours of big and taller that wouldn’t fit into a more traditional sized suit. -
Belt rivet question
themaninthesuitcase replied to Archer1210's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
No, a popper is specific kind of snap, but it’s what we call them in the UK. this is what I mean: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/334214700997?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=IZwBW1pKQEO&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=O36WsnEmT1G&var=543220012274&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY -
Belt rivet question
themaninthesuitcase replied to Archer1210's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
There are a few more of the belt in that gallery. The belt was also rivet on as best as I can see there. Thats not overly practical for a trooping build. Some use a Chicago screw, but what I did was rivet on a snap to give the screen accurate look from the outside side but the ability to remove the holster as needed for storage and transportation. -
Belt rivet question
themaninthesuitcase replied to Archer1210's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
On the screen used suits the boxes are rivets to attach the main plastic to the fabric belt and also to attach the drop boxes to the elastics. To attach the belt to the armour was “poppers” by a company called Newey but these days most of use a snap type faster there instead. This gallery image is from the RS owned suit from A New Hope. -
Hi Adam, I am UKG and also in Herts (Hemel). So welcome to the FISD. For the UK Garrison start here: https://www.ukgarrison.co.uk/join-us.html Join the forum, say hello and make your way over to the armoury. A work in progress thread is part of the clearance process and they will guide you best on getting your SDS to a point that the UKG will be happy with for clearance. Once you're squared away there don't be a stranger, we will also be more than happy to help out here. But do listen to your UKG Armourer as ultimately they will be the one who green lights your build.

Welcome to the FISD. Good luck with the Phasma build. We used to have one in our Garrison and it really was a cool costume to see and troop with.

The Metalmite capacitors, are to my knowledge, not polarised as they lack any form of polar markings. From a quick google they are paper capacitors, which probably means "paper in oil" which is a primitive capacitor technology. Polarised Electrolytic capacitors would have been physically bigger and also have a much higher capacitance. Looking around, not all of them have red and black ends, some have two black. For example: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/305583460268?var=0&mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=710-53481-19255-0&campid=5338590836&toolid=10044&customid=95cbffdf7f7c1f563ab398ca56115666 Admittedly not quite the correct one, these are 1000v caps which will be larger, but finding images of the correct smaller ones vs repo is hard now. Those that do have 2 colours might be an indicator of which is the "foil" which can help reduce noise in some circuits. This is all a bit of a guess though, as finding the actual data sheet on these is impossible now.

I would have to assume a chassis ground. I don't know what image you're looking at for the red/black ends but another thing to consider is in the early days of transistors positive earth was common due to the prevalence of PNP transistors.
