Nope, it definitely wasn't me that wished I didn't paint them. I did it in multiple thin layers, and they aren't crusty at all!

Getting close, Kurt! Those are the exact same pouches I ordered, and to get them black was pretty easy. Instead of using dye (which I was afraid might bleed onto my armor from constant rubbing) I picked up 2 spray cans of plain black flat paint. Nothing fancy, just the least expensive they had : ----------- and it has worked out great. I masked off the leather straps on the front (AND back) and applied several light coats, letting it dry between each coat. Dozens and dozens of troops later and no smudges. Another thing you want to think about is finding something to fill out the actual pouches when complete, otherwise they look flat. I used some strips of foam, 1 x 2 x 6 covered in black electrical tape. Lightweight and effective. If I can be of any help, just let me know!

I think this is one of the best parts of my armor I have ever invested in, Shawn: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/29991-thigh-garter-system/?hl=%2Bthigh+%2Bgarter+%2Bsystem It takes all of 20 seconds to put the belt on and attach the thighs. They have never slipped once, even after an 8 hours troop.

Quick indeed! Congrats, Chris! PM incoming..

Hello, Troopers! As a continuing part of the FISD anniversary, I am having a photo contest, and the prize is a brand new (with tags) official Disney Imperial cog jacket, as seen below. The jacket will be available in either medium or large only, and the contest is open to all members of the FISD. Here is the lowdown: 1. You must submit 2 photos of yourself in full TK armor. One inside a grocery store with a cart, and the other in the toy section of a store holding a Stormtrooper figurine, (any size). 2. The first Trooper to post both photos in the same post on this thread wins the jacket, which includes free shipping, no matter where you live. 3. The contest starts today, and will run until someone claims the prize, or Dec. 31st, whichever comes first. These jackets are really nice, (retail $60.00), and are perfect for sewing patches on, displaying your pins, or even having your name/TK # embroidered on. Please note that I do not have these for sale. So get suited up, get out there in public, have some fun and show your FISD spirit! Limited Edition Lightweight terry cloth body 80% cotton / 20% polyester Created especially for Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort Applique artwork Contrast black ribbed trim Two front pockets Fleece fabrication interior

GREAT job on that armor, Jim! The shims turned out spectacular, which gave you a perfect ab/kidney connection... Awesome work, sir, awesome work indeed. Not sure if you needed to trim the shoulder bells to make them come in closer.., the left one looks spot on, it's the right one that needed to come in a bit. Just tighten up the connection to the elastic shoulder strap and that should do it. Glad to hear that you are headed for Centurion, but you will need to change out the Anovos belt for one that is more rigid. When you do that, you will want to raise it up a bit to where the ABS belt touches the ab button box. You are well on your way, sir, and will have those level two and three badges below your name before you know it!

Always nice to see a great set of RS armor, Pano, and it looks as if you pretty much have everything in place. I am hoping that you will be applying for Centurion after your EIB approval, so you might want to think about moving the shoulder bells closer to your shoulder straps to get rid of the small gaps, paint the screws on the TD clips black, and move the drop boxes out a tiny bit so that they align with the outer edges of the ABS belt. All super easy fixes. Great job on this armor, sir!

Finished Pack Build
justjoseph63 replied to TK-16845's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
2 words John... Holy cow! Well, one more, actually... OUTSTANDING!! Your patience and hard work have really yielded great results, and I must say that could very well be the nicest pack I have seen. The lines, angles and cuts are crisp and clean, (I have no idea how you managed to get those arch cutouts so perfect, but I am envious as hell), and the weathering is perfectly subtle, so time to go for your HWT approval! Can't wait to see this in person soon at a Makaze troop! (Just don't stand too close, and make mine look bad, LOL). -
Nice job, Josh!!

TK-62726 requesting ANH Stunt Centurion status [AP] [289]
justjoseph63 replied to Atin's topic in Request Centurion Status
Looking sharp, Marco, and GREAT job on those ab/kidney and back/kidney connections! If I could make a couple of suggestions, they would be to trim off the last little bit of the return edges on the "hump" part of the forearms (picture) and perhaps raise the front of the belt a bit. In theory, it should be touching or even overlapping the ab button plate a bit. Fantastic job on that armor, sir, and I see a Centurion award under your name soon! Also, AWESOME job on that E-11!!! -
I would steer clear of this armor for several reasons, Nicolas. 1. Like Aaron mentioned, it is a cheap recast. 2. The angles that are on the bottom of the butt plate, ab plate, and thighs are cut at WAY too sharp. This can (and will) lead to it cracking/splitting in these areas. They should be more rounded to prevent this. 3. The belt has been cut too short on the sides. 4. The thermal detonator cover has been cut too short. 5. There are no return edges on this armor. Anywhere. 6. It has been trimmed way too much in many areas. 7. These lines in the listing: " With ABS plastic... if cracked or damaged, repairs are difficult, costly, and rarely return the plastic to it's original state" and "repairs to it can be easily completed by almost anyone" are total fabrications, and simply not true. If you needed to shim or repair it, you would be in for quite a challenge working with fiberglass if you are not familiar with it. 8. Yes, you could use Bondo if needed... but then you would also have to exactly match the "automotive" paint color used. This would be very difficult, as there are dozens and dozens of shades of white. Automotive paint is normally done by professionals, and can be very expensive. 9. ABS plastic is much easier to work with, holds up well, is easy to repair and is used for those reasons. If you are (hopefully) looking to join the 501st, I would highly recommend sticking with one of the vetted sellers here: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/11538-the-various-types-of-armor-and-where-to-find-them/ and steer well clear of anything found online. eBay is a good source for many things, but TK armor is not one of them.

Which sort of kit are you referring to, Pedro, FO or OT?
-
Hola! I need someone who has (or has access to) a vaccu-former. It will be a REALLY simple pull, and I can provide the pre-cut material (1/8 ABS) and buck. It is basically a 10 x 8 inch flat piece with a 3/4 inch lip on three sides. Almost like a dustpan of sorts. The quantity that I will need done is not yet determined. Thanks for any and all help!

Great news, Brian, and glad to hear you are aiming for levels 2 and 3! Looking forward to your submission thread!
-
I saw that same idea for the first time at a troop yesterday, and I am going to give it a try.
-
Instead of saying "The E-11 kits are back in stock" or anything to that effect, they are always blank. It does mean, however, that they have them up for sale again, and I would recommend going to the site immediately and ordering it.

First, you are in the right forum, Stephen, and no apologies needed! Even with hundreds of threads and thousands of posts here, there are always questions that are hard to find answers to sometimes, so you did the right thing by asking. As for your armor choice, it all comes down to a matter of preference between ANH and ESB. Yes, there are differences, but there are not specific troops for each. I have been at events where there are ANH Stunt, ANH Hero, ESB and ROTJ, all at the same time. As a rule, the general public does not notice those differences, and only sees Stormtroopers. I'm not sure if it would be cost effective to do the switching out thing, but that would be up to you. You would also need a new belt, as the ANH one will have the rivet holes in it from the holster. There are quite a few build threads here that concern shorter Troopers, which you could (and should) read over. Great to hear that you are aiming for EIB and Centurion, and I am sure there are ways to reach it even with trimmed down armor, so I wouldn't worry about that. You should also start a build thread here, so that as questions come up, they can be answered quickly. Be sure to post lots of photos when asking a question though. (We LOVE photos). It makes it much easier to help you when there are visual aids. RS is a fantastic kit, and if you have an unlimited resource here at the FISD to help, so take your time on the build and before you know it you will be out there trooping with the UKG! I would also recommend getting in touch with Chris, the Imperial Attache for the UKG, who can be a great help and offer advice as well. You can contact him here: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/user/23806-themaninthesuitcase/

If you mean the bottoms, I wouldn't, Nathan. There is supposed to be as much of a return edge on the bottom as possible. Is it binding or too tight on the bicep? You may need to widen the bell a bit if so. This can be (VERY carefully) done with either a heat gun or a boiling water bath. If you haven't done so already, I would recommend getting in touch with the New Zealand Garrison http://nz501st.com/forum/PortalStandalone.php to see if there are any members locally who are familiar with these methods and help you out in person.

Unfortunately, the line has to be drawn somewhere, so to speak. Are you saying that you would like to make up your own weapon? Again, it comes down to continuity. We are a costuming group that is specifically designed to emulate the Star Wars franchise, including it's characters and props used in the films, video games, etc. Therefore, that's what we do. Becoming a part of this group is unfortunately not an inexpensive endeavor for many of the costumes, as most commercially available ones are sadly lacking in authentic details and not acceptable to our particular high standards. As for weapons, I feel that the Legion and FISD as a whole understand this and allow members lots of leeway on these props, but we must remain faithful to the types that have been shown and used in the various SW applications, be they home made or purchased. "Based on" in no way means that it must be a "real" weapon. That would not be practical, or even legal in many places. The above two quotes by Michael and Glen (Q) pretty much sum it up precisely.
-
Not sure exactly what you mean about certain weapons not being accepted, Gerard. As stated in each CRL above the "Accessories" area, it says: Items below are optional costume accessories. These items are not required for approval, but if present appear as described below. So as you can see, weapons are optional. But, if you are going to carry one, it does say (in the ANH Stunt CRL, for example): Based on a real or replica Sterling sub-machine gun, scratch-built, or a modified commercial toy Stormtrooper blaster. The key word there is based. There are MANY Troopers who carry home built DLT-19's, T-21s, etc., many made for less than $100.00 in materials! Although there may be small differences in them, the overall look needs to stay the same for continuity purposes, but I have never heard of any weapons being "unacceptable" for basic approval, and even Hasbro toy E-11s are acceptable at EIB level with some inexpensive mods like the Doopydoos kit: http://www.doopydoos.com/stormtrooper-e11-hasbro-blaster-conversion-skin-kit-mk2-2636-p.asp And large weapons are certainly not a requirement for costumes such as the HWT, Stunt or Hero. I know of several HWTs who rock their E-11s, which is totally fine! If you go TD, though, those weapons may be required at their top levels. P.S. I edited your post edited to remove the extra <br>'s characters.
