Decided on regular 10mm red LED. Should be brighter than Hasbro stock anyways. I'll post pics in the sun and at night tomorrow. Also, why the hell did I think it was dRoopydoo? I have problems.

Helmet modding advice
charlesnarles replied to JunesBanunes's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
Has that SDS look to it, IMO. I know they offer DIY kits, if that helps or is interesting 😅 thats the first transparent helmet I've seen too; I kinda want to see it "naked" if you're planning to strip and repaint it all. Might be cool to paint it on the inside, if it's not too thick of plastic. Electronics don't have to be more complicated than pc hardware, and I taught myself to solder for my blaster build without any foul-ups if you wanna get fancy and customize wired stuff yourself -
HELMET FACEPLATE MEASURES- a comparison.
charlesnarles replied to TK bondservnt's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
Interesting. I had debated opening my eFX mouth a bit more, but I'll measure first now that I don't have to eyeball it. I assume they're all stunts? -

Stormtrooper Security (?)
charlesnarles replied to aliens8us's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
I specifically like the "Field Troopers" from Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight. I wonder how Lucas says the rebels get the Death Star plans, and/or his stance on the whole Kyle Katarn story arch... I say canon. http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Field_stormtrooper -
Got my paints from Trooperbay yesterday. Took 5 days and was only $12, nicely packed and the right items, all as to be expected from TK-4510. I'm real excited to start painting my ATA and repainting my eFX.

I happened to work on doing this to mine today too. I'm opening up the mouth holes to be from the top of the middle tooth all the way down to pretty near the seam. I took a bit too much off for the concave tooth's shape and ended up with a ) ( -shaped hole in my front right tooth, so just be careful and it'll look better. I'm taking all 6 mouth holes down to the seam, eventually. I have one set of green bubbles from FenixProps that (I think might be for FX originally, but coincidentally) fit well in eFX and still look dark with a head in the bucket. I could even drill you holes so they'd fit right in with the same screws and little plastic bracket things. PM me if ya want 'em, bud. I'm too scared to do anything to my eFX's ears yet. Good to hear its cool to have 4 bumps.

Hovi speakers + iComm?
charlesnarles replied to charlesnarles's topic in Electronics for Helmets / Blasters
That's what I heard too; not worth it, at least not for trooping. How big is an iComm? Does it even need to be in the helmet? I'm really tempted to just take the cases off some nicer walkies I got for Xmas and see if one would even fit in my vocoder cavity. Might even look kinda like the cross section/scaled models. And put the receiver/speaker walkie in the chest piece I guess. OR a throat mic to prevent feedback plugged into chest-mounted transmitter, with the receiver in the vocoder so sound could just come from the mouth/inside the helmet? With headphones on too somehow to not be deafened by the speaker 4 inches from both ears LOL I like my first idea better. Transmitter in helmet, speaker outside. -
Looking for assistance in choosing armor
charlesnarles replied to Drage13's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
Hey, I only used the tools I got at a GamesWorkshop that were designed for Warhammer (hobby knife, files and reamer that rusted up... straight and curved plastic scissors, hand drill) on my ATA bucket and it wasn't bad at all. Don't worry, the force will be with you always -

CRL says "medium blue"... I got the humbrol TK paint kit from Trooperbay (good price) which comes with Midnight and French blues. Which one should I use? No hits using search thingy. Thanks!

Improvements to my humble MRCE.
charlesnarles replied to darren1970's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
I'm gonna try regular old caulk and see if it's better or worse. Could always rip it right out -
About 6 solid years of 1/2 a pack a day (just by circumstance or I'd have been worse). Metal rods implanted in my spine (not caused by cigs) = cold turkey for me. I agree that one should try to replace the habit rather than focusing on extinguishing it. Remember: Do or do not; there is no "try" And mtfbwy buddy

ATA bucket first timer

Got my ears screwed on. Need to sand, just wondering what to do about trimming the opening for the s trim. What do you guys think? Right ear looks big from the back: Thanks for looking -
Is this helmet fixable?
charlesnarles replied to Harrt046's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
http://www.doityourself.com/stry/how-to-remove-pop-rivets-without-a-drill Yeah it's fixable. Line everything back up and mark it with pencil before you rivet again and you should be fine. You can even use a bigger gauge rivet if the new hole "overlaps" the old hole -
Mix and matching bucket and armor kit
charlesnarles replied to hon143's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
Not an expert on this, but you don't have to pair each piece brand-wise. I know that people replace certain brands' pieces with another brand that fits better. Color would be important to have a close match, tho. Vetted seller list says ATA is a special color blend, not sure how picky the higher-ups are. Hope this helps at all😅 -

charlesnarles replied to R4ZORBL4DE's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
Yeah, I goofed and got my echo fan thing before having an official designation. I plan to engrave and/or paint my name and TK# on there later. Great fan setup, fits and works well. (I laughed when I saw he left the field as "FACT01" but it adds to the official/issued look nonetheless)😄 -
ATA bucket: Paint it or not
charlesnarles replied to shadowtrooper760's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
I've read you need to be careful not to get a polish that will negatively affect the plastic (color, integrity, etc) but it should list the kind of plastic it's safe for on the label. Should. -
ATA bucket first timer
charlesnarles replied to charlesnarles's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
The right ear has to be at that weird angle to cover my noob giant S cut on my cap'n'back. Not sure how the trim will fit on with that in mind. -

How do these ears look? Trying not to trim too much, they're my last ear set. Right ear front: Right ear back: Left ear front: Left ear back: -

My EFX, I'll transfer to my ATA once it's finished. Just Velcro, moto helmet liner and Echo's fans. I spray painted the inside of my ATA to give the look without extra weight. Bad back, you know. -------- -
Anyone Received ATA Armor lately
charlesnarles replied to OnlineJeff's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
Just asked about my order, he said he's more or less on-schedule, just busy like he should be. I've only waited 6 months so far. Not too bad at all -
Thinking about getting this as my single light. https://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/high-powered/cree-xrc-series-1-watt-red-led-r2m3c/941/1263/ 50 lumens is enough, but it says I need a heat sink, so is that a no-no? If not, just a normal 5mm bulb? Thanks all

Build goofs that everyone has made
charlesnarles replied to Tusken RTT's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
Yesterday I fit an ear showing some of the seam it was meant to hide... Today I'm being much more careful (and successful). Thank the maker we get two sets! Measure 10x, cut once.
