  1. Welcome to FISD! You will find lots of help and information here to get to to your finished armour. None of us knew how to assemble armour with our very first kits, so you are in good and experienced company. once again, welcome aboard.
  2. yes you can give then a light sand to slightly flatten the area, but also do the same on the cover strips. If you need to cut these they will always have a noticeable lip on the edge of the cut. You can quickly take that off by running a steel ruler on an angle down the length and a slither of abs from that kicked up sedge will curl off. I posted an image of that technique in another thread a few years back so will try and find that to post here.
  3. Definitely up to the local GML, so if ever in doubt about an item they are always your best local level source. 100% no go for items that are not in character for any Disney LFL troops where one may get paid.
  4. Chris, you are having the same nerves and fears we all did when our first kits arrived, but i promise you, it isn't as hard as it might seem. Things start to settle after you make your first cuts, that's if you need to make many at all on a pre trimmed kit. No one automatically knows how to assemble armour from the outset, it is a skill you quickly develop as you move through your build. It's not a race so take your time, and as Glen says, ask plenty of questions when ever in doubt. We are here in every capacity possible;e to help you, and the pride you will have after completing your build is irreplaceable.
  5. Welcome to FISD James! You have certainly come to the right place for all the information you could ever want on Stormtroopers. These forums are vast and may seem overwhelming but fear not, we have your back. Ask as many questions as you can and our staff and members will guide you all the way to completion of your costume. The 501st pride themselves on a reasonably high level of accuracy when it comes to costuming, and as many will tell you, this hobby not only requires plenty of research, it also isn't necessarily cheap. The vendors list supplied in a prior post is a good guide to reputable armour sellers, generally a safe bet to go through one of them for good quality kit. You can have armour built for you but that certainly adds to the overall cost, so most of us assemble the kits ourselves which makes for the best fit as well as saving a few bucks. Good luck on your journey sir and once again, welcome to FISD.
  6. Welcome to FISD Parker, looking forward to seeing your build progress.
  7. The home stretch, you got this Brit.
  8. Good to see you getting back onto this project Joseph, it's going to be a very nice display piece for sure.
  9. Congratulations Jim!!
  10. Glen is all over this. Yes these are the tools we use to be heard and I hope you can come up with a solution for your dad.
  11. By the looks it is very much similar to Frog Tape, it's just not green Frog is painters tape and there are various grade you can purchase.
  12. I agree with Dan on this. I chose to use internal cover strips to reinforce the front of the calves (a potential weak spot due to flexing open from the rear to get them on) and also my thighs. I actually used internals to aid in gluing the two halves together from the inside first before adding my externals on the thighs and forearms and calves. It allowed me to align the parts easily. I also can get pretty active in my armour in the right environment, yeah I've been known to break out in dance lol. Funk RnB style that is, not interpretive I used CA glue on m entire kit and it is still going strong over the last 8 years. There is also the old "if you cant see it, it doesn't matter" so no, internal strapping and supportive cover strips will always be allowed and a personal choice.
  13. As Glen mentioned, my door is always open and you can discuss whatever you need with me. If I can help, I certainly will. I do also speak with GML from all over the world if they have any issues or enquires, and I also do what ever I can to overcome problems for our memebrs. Troopers helping troopers.
  14. Welcome aboard Carlos, You will find plenty of information in these pages and it can seem daunting but fear not. We have very knowledgeable members and staff hear to answer any and all of the questions I know you are going to have. Once again, welcome.
  15. Welcome to FISD Mark,.
  16. Congratulations Matt!
  17. Hi Alex, you can use this as a guide for ANH/ESB TK thermal dets Go here to the gallery and you will find measured sizing of the RS suit TD Bear in mind the TD do vary slightly in length from maker to maker so close enough is good enough. Here are a few more images that have been measured up Hope you find these of some assistance.
  18. New CRL Half arsed TK'S Description: Stormtrooper, Whatever we could pull together at a moment's notice. Prefix: TK?? Detachment: First Imperial Stormtrooper Detachment Ahhh I don't think so Jack! Context: Episode: not in this universe buddy! These Stormtroopers (Stunt/Hero/rubies/various fond parts from costume shops) were the pre-emptive laughing stock in the boarding party, or boring party, cosplay event of the Rebel blockade runner the "You ain't bringing that costume in here IV", and made up the main garrison of poor man's productions that could be seen throughout the corridors of shady conventions and at cheap events.
  19. Wow this is going to be way cool.
  20. I'll echo Joseph's sentiments, and such a clean build too. Fantastic work Paul.
  21. Yep, that's how this works Justin. members can certainly nominate others for their 3D contributions, then the staff have a discussion on the merits and value and we go from there. I shell take a look at these recommendations over the weekend.
  22. Welcome to FISD Lucas.
