HOWTO: Magnetic Plug and Socket. No more velcro.
Daetrin replied to TK4205's topic in TFA Stormtrooper

For my gaskets, I use no Velcro or anything. They just go right in the biceps and forearms. Sure are easy to put on. Here is what it looks like: And for the thighs, I can just tuck them in when not in use.

In addition to Han/Luke, there is a Hero trooper escorting Leia (as Brian noted), but the "The ship's all yours" is another Hero TK.

New armour build Star Wars Rebels TK
Daetrin replied to Fem Kat Rebel TK's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Neat to see a build thread for this -
Keeping leading the way!

Thanks for the comparos! Great to have 2 helmets, as you note. Also, given how easy these can break, it seems a smart idea.
-
In a perfect world you'd have both - cloth for most trooping and rubber for when you really want full on accuracy. If you could only have one then I'm thinking go rubber. I just got mine and they are pretty easy to set up. Not quite as flexible/easy as cloth, but way better than what you'll get with the ANOVOS kit. I'm guessing 90% of TFA troopers use IG gaskets.

Awesome responses! KaiserW: wrt http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:868160- I'll give these a go. Actually I'm grateful for the site link. As a test run my daughter selected a small cat, which printed successfully. I found a Han Solo blaster and a Millenium Falcon. Greatest site ever! 2. Michael - thanks for the link to the TDH. My printer is smaller so couldn't do it all, but I could do some of these at least. 3. Brian - for sure will give printing my own small blaster a go, just to see how it works. 4. Chris - Like you I'll see what fits in the printer. Thanks for everyone else's thoughts. I feel like it was back in the 90's when I got my first ink-jet printer. Good ones were +$1000 and the fact that you could buy your own for $300 or so at the time was ground-breaking. $600 is still a lot today, but considering you can get one at all at this price is amazing. I'm sure ones that do high detail that you could actually print our armor pieces for $500 aren't that far away. I look forward to how far they'll come in the next 10 years. Big Hero 6?

So I got a daVinci Pro 3D Printer as a going-away gift from my team (thanks team!), but now am wondering what to print with it. Does anyone pointers to files I can download that are SW related to get me started?

Thanks to all the staff for an outstanding newsletter. And I mean that truly - we've had many great ones, but this is tops. Well done Cheers to the UKG for appearing in TFA. This is a singular honor and we are happy, and proud of you. Another round of huzzah's!

I think we are all spoiled on cheap armor these days. I remember paying $1200 or so for a FX kit on eBay 10 years ago (that's all that was there), and that didn't include undersuit, boots, gloves, and neckseal - all of which we had to pay for separately and the helmet was just a kit, which put it around $1500 or so, so figure another $100 or more if someone built your helmet. So yeah, it's pricey for a kit by today's standards not *that* bad if you count what is included, such as gaskets. OTOH, the completed assembly - man that's a lot of cheese to assemble a kit. I think the most I ever paid someone to build non TFA armor was $400 for a clone, and even with separate helmet build and paint maybe it was $600. These must still be work to assemble, or else they are making a helluva profit to have them built for you.

They will be in SpecOps as they are white armor variants. For sure not in BSN. Only reason they'd be in ACD if they truly are tank drivers or crew, not mobile infantry. However the illustration makes them look more like updated analogs of Galactic Marines. Since SpecOps handles white armor variants, and they have white armor (TK) parts, my money is on SpecOps. The tank commander will also be most likely in SpecOps. ACD has no hard armor costumes. Clone armor drivers and even pilots are in CTN as they are clone armor troops, not ACD nor JRS. IOW, the armor goes with the detachment that best supports it, not the detachment based on job role in absolute terms.

EIB / Centurian Overlap?
Daetrin replied to Naglium's topic in FISD Expert Infantry Badge (EIB) Requirements
Actually this is not entirely correct. These awards are recognitions in costume achievement. Once you have them, you have them. Also, EI is costume specific, Centurion is not. Thus if you get your EI on your ANH TK, then submit for an ROTJ TK, the ROTJ will be a separate submission as it is a separate award. However if you got Centurion on your ANH TK, then since there is only one Centurion awarded, you need not submit your ROTJ as there is nothing to award you. Well, you can but you will not get a "second Centurion award", all you get is an independent assessment that the suit met Centurion standards. On the other hand if you got your EI on your old ANH suit, and now have a new ANH suit, you are *not* required to resubmit that suit for EI, since you already have an ANH EI award. You can submit directly for Centurion (presuming you don't already have a Centurion). Remember it is the person who gets the award, not the suit! Lastly, people can do and use the same post for EI and Centurion - they just copy their submission to a new topic once the EI is awarded. No issue there. Hope that clarifies things, if not lmk. -
Well, the proof will be in the pudding. My understanding is that the goal of this kit will be that it will be as easy to assemble as the current OT TK.

And now you new peeps know why Wyatt was the first and still the best FISD Armor Chief.
-
FWIW, I sent a list via PM to Peter.
-
You are correct, sir!

Kevin, if you still feel there is a grievance, please let's use a separate thread. Peter - thanks for posting and being so forward - this has been very illuminating and truly helpful.
-
Kevin, given that you are a 501st member, here are possible outcomes: 1. The other party is determined to have directly recast your work without your permission. * If they are a 501st member, you'll have to press charges with the LCOG. There is not much FISD can do other than ensure it's clear to everyone the history of the armor. * If they are not a 501st member, the detachment (DL discretion) can ban them from the boards 2. The other party is determined to have created their own work * No action taken Tim (DL) owns this area and I'm certain is looking at the evidence.

HOWTO: Magnetic Plug and Socket. No more velcro.
Daetrin replied to TK4205's topic in TFA Stormtrooper
As long as you comply to the CRL, you'll be fine. The only 2 people that can rightfully judge your costume are your GML (who approves locally in your garrison as the representative of the LMO (Legion Membership Officer) or ultimately the LMO himself. The LMO can override the GML. Yes, there are a lot of wannabe's. This is why I created FISD in the first place, to counter incorrect local knowledge. -
HOWTO: Magnetic Plug and Socket. No more velcro.
Daetrin replied to TK4205's topic in TFA Stormtrooper
100% untrue. We don't care what the armor looks like on the inside, just the outside. You could build your entire suit with magnets instead of Velcro if you wanted. -
Need criticism for my Anovos Hero..
Daetrin replied to justjoseph63's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Truth on that. Still, for an ANOVOS it's neat to see a conversion, as Hero is my fav look of them all. Can't want to see updated pix fully suited up.
